You people, just like the one's who put themselves in harm's way, obviously didn't listen very hard to what Fenn himself had to say. He said that the treasure would be easy for anyone to get to and nothing dangerous should have to happen in order to reach it.
After all he his the treasure himself in his 80's and made 2 trips that day to do it. He has also made several trips to check on it. You people either don't listen or are just drama queens.

@franklopezzz - Lawsuit? Tell me more. The whole point of hiding the treasure was for "the thrill of the chase". Whether it existed or not, the goal would have been achieved. Sadistic perhaps.. I dont think so. However, if I had found the treasure I would have setup a foundation that continued to hide tokens that could be redeemed for smaller amounts like $1k USD. That kind of thing would get lots more people visiting national parks which would increase peoples appreciation and awareness of their value which I think would increase the probability of their protection...National/state parks that is.

I emailed him a few different times, and I have my notes somewhere that shows why I chose the location I did. The last e mail from him just said basically to make and take the time and go look myself. Now I'm starting to think that the lad who "found" it made a deal with Fen to just say he found it so people would stop being idiots and getting killed looking for it. I think the tressure is n was to get people outdoors and enjoy the experience. That's the tressure, no gold, no artifacts n no chest. That's why the man won't come out and say the location of the tressure. The location is everywhere in the great outdoors.

For hours, days, weeks, months, and years. When Forrest Fenn
Wrote his poem, his intention was to get people out into the
Rocky Mountains. This is a story about Forrest Fenn's
Treasure and poem, and a family looking for the treasure.

The end of the quest seems mysterious and raises many questions. Can one be sure that the search was honestly ended? The treasure was found shortly before Forrest Fenn's death after years of searching. My thesis is that he saw his death coming and wanted to finish the story before he died. Did the finder get a tip from him or his family? Is there any evidence that the finder had previously been in contact with a member of the family? Why doesn't the finder explain how and after what time this successful search came about? The finder cloaks himself in silence, for which there is no reason. Just like someone who has been advised by his lawyer not to say anything in order not to be able to reveal anything that incriminates his testimony. If you believe the information, it seems that he has already been identified. Or did he just make himself available as a straw man and the treasure was cashed in by the family? From all these questions you could at least write a good story for a movie.

Greetings 1101kcgah...You ask..."Why doesn't the finder explain how and after what time this successful search came about"...Another way of putting it may be: Why is he hiding from a world full of questions & possible $$ for the story...(Book or Movie deal). You are right in that it would "incriminate his testimony" if the WY STORYLINE WAS FALSE.
I have complied a set of videos on this subject you may find interesting. In one you can see & hear Mr. Fenn himself saying that the treasure was hidden "above 7000 ft"..FYI, Madison River is BELOW 7000 ft.
If you still have TToTC book jacket, check out the text on the inside leaf where Fenn writes in an encrypted style to "Hit the Maverick Trail and know that the treasure is REALLY there for the taking". FYI, the Maverick Trail in NOT in WY.
WIth all due respect I have to question the thesis that Fenn saw his death coming...That is IMHO, Fenn was quite possibly keep alive by the chase and the interaction he had with the searchers...Once that ended his will to live just left...The same with his wife and her will to live, after decades of marriage, her's left too. I experienced a similar situation with my own parents and their passing.
      Best wishes...
