@@barrierodliffe4155 No they don't. Unlike Tesla owners, people who drive petrol and diesel cars are intelligent. You would have to be moronically stupid to think battery operated vehicles are in any way good for the environment. The inconvenient truth is, they're not. Teslas are a disaster for the environment. They should be banned from sale, and owners of existing ones ought to pay £1000 a week road tax.

Bath has a Clean Air Zone. A lady rang up recently wanting to book two taxis going into the city on Saturday evening and coming back about 1AM. She accepted the taxi fares but then I told her she'd have to pay 2 X £9 for the trips into the city and, because the return trips were the next day (after midnight) another 2 X £9, so £36. She cancelled the taxis. Well done, Bath City Council, and that is just one of many cancelled trips because of the Clean Air charge.

I have to agree that we are being pushed in a direction no one should want to go. The future is the end of ownership. Right now I own and drive a 1987 Mercedes 560 SEC and a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. The last car payment I had was in 1999. My cars are in great shape, fun to drive, comfortable, easy to see out of, will last forever if cared for, cheap to insure, the yearly registration fees are $51.00 USD per car.
The model people are going towards headlong is on of no ownership at all. It will be either car shares, (no, but thanks for asking), or high monthly payments for the rest of your life. Then the car companies want to have you “subscribe “ to features that are already on the car that you are already paying for!?!?!?
Complete madness. I expect they will come after us ev holdouts by increasing the percentage of ethanol in the gas until we can’t run or old cars anymore.

You asked if the Grid could cope if we all had EVs. But that's academic. There would never be enough charging points so there would be no way of actually accessing a charger. Especially with so many out of order!
The other elephant in the room will always be having to wait an hour to charge, as opposed to 2 minutes for petrol. I think the cost of coffee and doughnuts consumed while charging is part of the cost of charging too.

What you don't get from these videos, most EV owners only ever charge at home and never use the charging network. The journeys portrayed here are generally motorway trips over 200 miles, most owners would never do those apart from maybe on holiday. With any modern EV travelling up to say 70 miles to somwhere you'd have enough to get back home without having to charge and then you can fill up overnight so you have a full tank the next day.

We had a power cut in our street the other night, and northern power grid came out, and I was speaking to the guy. He told me the cables in the street are all old and aren't coping with all the extra draw already and that's why we have had 4 power cuts over the last twelve months, they keep patching them up, but he told me there will only be more problems as more chargers get installed and they are dreading it...and that's from a northern power grid electrician.
There's a lot more power cuts to come I would imagine, and all our electricity prices will only go up more to cover all the extra infrastructure needed, and that would take decades to bring upto scratch

First of all I am an EV owner, but one who doesn’t think it’s the answer to all our problems. I just like my one because it suits my needs. A couple of things I would say though.
    1. Oil is controlled by fewer people than the worlds electricity makers, so if "they" want to control your movement it can easily be done without getting you to buy electric cars.
    2. There is no ban on cars using fossil fuel, you will just have to buy a phev, which is the worst of both worlds in my opinion but at least it offers flexibility too on those long trips.
    3. I don’t think diesel car owners are feeling like lambs to the slaughter, people didn’t buy them because of the environment, it because they were cheaper to run back then, same situation as Evs, now they are costing the same to run I think there will be a drop off.
    4. Did you really have to lease a Porsche Taycan to realise that EVs don’t have a soul. 10 Mins research on the internet and a short test drive will tell you that.
    5. If everyone plugged their car in overnight of course the grid won't be able to handle it, just like when everyone decides to fill up an ICE car at the same time, it causes chaos.
    6. It's also obvious that the tax free benefits will end with EVs, and if they don’t, the government will tax us elsewhere to make up for the loss of fossil fuel tax revenue.
    7. Price of electricity and fuel will change, who knows where it will be in 10 years' time, fuel may get cheaper as demand falls, but maybe not.
    8. Out of service charge points, usually non tesla ones, are a joke and are making owning an EV difficult, if Tesla can keep them working why can't the others, also don’t forget to add on the price of the coffee you had, which if you filled up with fuel you may not have bought.
    9. Because of the cold weather drop off on range, EVs, maybe all cars, should be sold with range figures for both summer and winter temp.

The problem is this won’t happen. And while we sit there longer in our cars to get through I wonder how much more our car emissions are giving off. So are they actually making things better for environment.

I think Once they have enough people hooked on EV's and it's past the point of no return , they will then claw more money out of people , they're already bringing in road tax , the cost of charging will go up as there will be little or no alternative . Also how many mechanics will be out of work as looking at your car, you'd need a degree in I.T just to open the bonnet , You quoted cost of servicing , my car costs me £160 a year at my local garage for servicing.
Makes me laugh how they go on about EV's being the new thing , Unigate & Co Op dairies were using EV's 40 odd yrs ago .

Another point of note with regard electric cars is their weight apprantely Britain's aging multistorey car parks were designed when car weighed considerable less, some ultimately could cause some structural load issues if enough ev's were to park in the same place or too many on one floor etc.
Who knows I guess it would take a collapse and the ramifications that would bring, but it todays health and safety world who knows?

We had a Lexus CT for 4 years, I think the hybrid is a much more sensible way to go - rather than insisting on full electric in one fell swoop. It was a great car in truth, fantastic stereo (Mark Levinson) which you could really appreciate when in electric mode. But the manual described battery life was between 4-6 years, and once I'd discovered the price of a replacement, it was time to pass it on! The planet is dying, we need to do something about it, but I can't see the whole world actually doing anything really constructive until it's too late, and that might already be the case now - and the powers in charge still can't agree on anything. Let's face it, we can't afford to pay our NHS a living wage, amongst many other worthy trades and services, our government isn't going to help finance the proper infrastructure needed for us to suddenly go all electric in 2030, it just can't and won't happen.

Hi Lee, you've hit the nail on the head mate -- EMERGENCIES!!
A couple of years ago my wife and I went to Great Yarmouth for a few days, a journey of 155 miles ish, we stayed at a hotel with a charging point so we could avoid the price of charging on the way.
On the second day my wife received a phone call regarding her mother who was in hospital, she'd taken a turn for the worse and it was recommended that we should waste no time if we wished to see her again.
We set off immediately with a full charge (225 miles in theory) The journey home left us with about 50 miles range and the hospital was about 25 miles away and had no charging facilities.
Luckily we have a second car, a diesel, so we jumped in that so we could concentrate on the important things in life rather than where we'd charge next.
Can you imagine if we'd got the call on the first day when we had no charge left in the car. How would my wife have felt while we were driving round looking for a charger and then sitting for an hour to get enough range to get home, or worse still, what if we only had one car!!
Electric cars sound great until !!!!!!! LIFE HAPPENS

I may, at some point, consider a small, inexpensive EV for an around-town car but only because there are a few companies so far that make tiny little two-seater EVs (Arcimoto and Nimbus, to name just a couple here in the U.S.) that have a range of about 100 miles and are fun to drive, can park just about anywhere because of their size, and are fairly quick to charge. But you're right, we are being forced into electric cars to restrict our movement. I'm in California, which you highlighted as a state telling people to conserve power by not charging electric vehicles, but I don't think Governor Newsom's motorcade is electric, and I'll guess that President Biden's motorcade isn't electric either. And that message from Newsom not to charge EVs came out right at the time I was road testing a new EV for a review I was writing. And where do we get most of the electricity to power EVs? By burning coal, of course. How "green" and "clean" is that? Two final things -- pulling into a gas station and filling up takes just a few minutes whereas, as you mentioned, charging an EV takes an hour at a so-called "fast charger" and much longer with a standard charger. And not everyone lives in a house where you can just plug in and charge overnight. Millions of people here in the U.S. live in condos and apartments and have to go to a public charger, that may already be in use, or not working, or in a dangerous part of town. One of my friends has two cars: his wife drives an EV (he says we must do it to save the planet,) yet he himself drives a gas-guzzling Maserati and says he'll never give it up. We must push back against these "rules for the peasants" designed to control our lives or movement.

It is only a matter of time before petrol and diesel cars will be taxed off the road. Your right,'they' don't want the average person to own a car. The rich will drive around in their big cars whilst we are forced onto pedal bikes or walking. It's a shame more people can't see this. It will happen 😭

Lee, we haven't got enough generation on a windless, overcast day let alone charge millions of EVs. The new incentives to switch off electric at peak times is because we don't have enough generation to secure supply. Most of the big coal power stations have closed leaving us short when the wind lets us down. In terms of the grid its pretty robust and was built in the 1960s-70s with alot of spare capacity. As for the cable down your street.....i would suspect that if every house on the street had an ev and charged at the same time the cable in the street would burn up pretty quickly. New EV chargers can be controlled centrally to switch them off at times of peak demand on the electricity network. Myself personally i feel electric car charging is not suited to the domestic charging. It would be far better to run a high voltage cable to a plot of land and make a grid serve style charging forecourt. When battery technology moves on then rapid charging will be the norm, similar to refuelling a petrol car.

    • @richardhemingway6084
      @richardhemingway6084 Рік тому

I agree. We need something better than the battery technology we have today. The current batteries are an improvement on lead acid, but still not up to the useability of fossil fuels. Super capacitors may be the answer, but even they will have a massive draw on the grid when rapid charging. The move to 'smart meters' is also a sinister move, as they can cut you off at the push of a button, at the whim of the government, or supplier. Nuclear may be the answer. Nationally and locally, in the car, or at home.

Watch Hoovies garage at lunchtime and he has highlighted how useless his brand new Ford F150 lighting is on range during the cold temperatures and its its actually really bad and is getting a similar range as when he did a towing test. He then went to a Chevrolet/Cadillac dealer to look at a Hummer EV truck but judging by the waterfall of water coming in through the roof panoramic windows during recording (which he didn't notice) bodes well for the overall quality of the "luxury" vehicle.

That's wild if true. A girl on Tiktok, daddy probably had money and bought it for her, was HOWLING about her EV and what a POS it was. She basically accurately summed up who buys these things, basically nerds. I wouldn't even say nerds so much, but really gullible sorts of people who don't do any research and get taken. And once again, if you go on tiktok, the same sorts of people who were big into crypto are big into EVs. People who really should be smart like engineers and doctors, but I figured out a long time ago that these people had their parents do their homework for them their entire lives and never did any critical thinking for themselves. That's how one of my friendships with an engineer buddy ended. He was an electrical engineer, couldn't formulate an argument for why electric cars were better(BACK IN 2010!!! Honestly they're still pretty bad now) and he got offended by that and started attacking me personally. I beat him, fair and square though and he couldn't handle it.
They literally have to learn the hard way. It's pathetic.

Hello Lee, your videos must be attracting a lot of views as I have never seen so may adverts ! I've thought about why I don't like EVs, and its especially because of how the government wants to ban ICE from 2030, its like there is only one way forward (EVs) and it doesn't matter about the 1/3 of folks who can't charge at home, the batteries deteriorating or faulting after 10+ years, the inability to recycle the batteries (currently 1% as its cheaper to make new ones) which will probably improve but when? I suspect the charging infrastructure is much better in London, but where I live (near Nuneaton) there are only about 10 public chargers for 100,000 people. I am waiting for the government to decide 2030 will shift to more like 2035 or 2040 as it was originally - controversial. 👍

All the batteries are in the bottom pan of the car; vids of fires I've seen show flames shooting out of the underside and up the sides of the car; would you dare to open a car door to get out or would you stay put and burn anyway?
