The need to register for the London congestion charge exemption is obvious when you think about it. Each £20 adds up, so if 10 million people register that's another £200 million in the bank. I live in Leeds and often have to drive down to London, so find it interesting hearing your comparisons of the A1 and M1. If I'm doing the round trip I like to take one route down and the other back, mixing it up for variety. The A1 is generally better in rush hour, although there are some bits that get snarled up, eg at Newark. It's generally a more mellow, relaxing route, and I enjoy its ancient history. It's got more character, boarded up diners included, than the soulless and boring M1! That said, there are some things about the A1 that aren't great, such as all the at-grade crossroads (you'd need to be a kamikaze to attempt turning right across two lanes of traffic speeding directly towards you at 70mph!). Plus, south of the A14, the A1 soon becomes significantly more bendy and semi-urban in places, with houses fronting onto the road at Sandy. In terms of services, you have a fair few service areas such as Colsterworth, Markham Moor and Peterborough, plus several standalone petrol stations and coffee shops. The Starbucks at Markham Moor occupies the distinctive "butterfly"-shaped building that was once upon a time a Little Chef.
I never wanted an EV in the first place, you've now completely made my mind up. I totally agree with you on the cameras as well, I thought Dick Turpin was long gone!
Funny thing. The Congestion charge was supposed reduce traffic, therefore reduce emissions. But with EV’s having it free, they are adding to the clogging up the road. So IMO, EV’s should be charged.
I had a Tesla Model 3 LR for 15 months. I was offered what I paid for it. Loved the car but like you have shown you have to spend time charging enroute. The updates on Tesla were brilliant and resets were scarce and very quick. Not the future though. I am back to diesel with no anxiety.

I work in IT, and one of my biggest gripes is error messages that just say 'Error', without giving you any clue whatsoever about what the issue actually is. Sure, a car is an appliance, and not every user wants gory techie details, and what Porsche obviously *want* you to do is take it to a dealer who can plug in diagnostics or something, but if it's going to present you with a spinny wheel, you should at least be able to dig down into the menus or something, and get some more information about what's going on.

RE fuel at home will be $1/gal with 120 mpg on Ethanol. No battery charge. Road tax will be 1/2 that of EV/mile. An EV will be 40-50 times MORE than a NET car without road tax considered. With road tax? 120 x $0.02/mile = $2.4/gal. Total fuel cost then is $1+2.4=$3.4/gal .../120 mpg= 2.83 cents/mile. The EV road tax is $4.8/gal. 52+4.8=$56.8/gallon.../120 mpge = 47.3 cents/mile. Ratio = 47.3/2.83=16.7 times MORE for EV. But, it is even better, as you will not pay for fuel made at home but once every 5 years during overhaul... That means cost is only road tax, or $2.4/gal marginally. 2.4/120= 2 cents/mile. 56.8/2=28.1 times more for EV. This is the future. No way can an EV compete with NET... Then there is the CO2...20-160 times less CO2. EVs are a silly JOKE>
