Funny considering how the company behind this game is named Comcept. They should really leave their ideas to The Executioners if they hope to make better games XD
The problem with MN9 isn't that it's "bad". It's that it's NOWHERE NEAR as good as it was supposed to be. As it was PROMISED to be. People were hyped to hell and back about this, they dumped a huge amount of money in the hands of a man we trusted. It was going to be the new Mega Man, it was going to be the best thing since Shovel Knight, it was going to be great... and then it had the gall to be AVERAGE.

It's really sad because this has an amazing potential, a speed based score attack game sounds fun as hell. The worst part is that it can't get that chance after the massive fail it was in the eyes of the people.
I backed this game, and I made a let's play of the Wii U version and didn't stumble upon any bugs or glitches (except for one time though). And I actually enjoyed it in an unironic way. But yeah, I'm not blind to some of the faults Mighty No. 9 has. Great review. :)

I personally had little trouble actually playing the game myself, and I own the Wii U port, the version purported to be the worst of the game.
I think you’ve perfectly summed up how I feel about Mighty No.9. I don’t think the game itself deserves all the hate it’s getting, though it is very flawed and how it handles some of its mechanics. I think comcept and Inafune should get a lot of heat for mismanaging this project, as well as deep silver for bungling the marketing. I think personally for me Mighty No.9 is a 7/10 as a game, but as a backer it’s a solid 2/10 for comcept. It’s a real shame too, I think this series has a lot of potential if the iron out all the issues and make it so that this game can carve out its own identity. I like the characters in the story that they were building, and I like the world of Mighty No.9. A sequel in better hands might redeem the series but that would be a hard sell for any developer.
honestly as much as im glad that mega man is back im a little sad that it means that mn9 will probably never get a sequel, considering the entire draw was that its a successor to mega man. i really hope they do decide to make a sequel some day, give it its own mega man 2 to iron out the flaws and give it more its own identity
The anime fan on prom night thing didn't bother me! people calling it PS2 graphics is insulting! the PS2 was my childhood and you guys hurt it's feelings!!
I was thinking that "Finally someone who doesn't diss Mighty no. 9, someone who looks at the good parts and makes the hate on the game fair.".. Then I got started by the intro- New viewer ^^
they could've made ability switching like shulk Monaco arts in smash 4, where it starts at the SAME ABILITY, and you press the button multiple times. with smash, doing that, you know how many buttons presses for each ability due to muscle memory.
You know... I doubt you'll revisit the game for the DLC, but the game really feels that was more designed around Raychel than Beck, since her dash also attacks, akin to Zero's Circling Slash from the Zero series. The game is just more fun with her because you're encouraged to speedrun and her moveset fit that better.
This should have a sequel where it's not necessary to play the first game, but they add a few new features and improve on current functional and level designs by making it only central to Mighty no. 9 not megaman.
Mighty Number 9 kind of reminds me of Pokemon Go: both flawed games that came out around the same time, had a variety of technical issues at launch, were meant to appeal to an already existing fanbase, and were mostly forgotten after about two or three months. For some reason though, Mighty Number 9 was universally hated while Pokemon Go became the most popular app ever.
What about Ray though? This is one of the best, most fair reviews of the game, but I was left wondering how Ray measures up in these levels with her gameplay.
I know it won't happen, but I feel like a few decent patches could fix this game up. Fix the player's hitbox, make the bosses not need dashed until the finishing blow, and a few tweaks to the level design. It really wouldn't be THAT hard, but they most likely won't waste the time.
It's not a bad game for the price I paid. In August, Best Buy was selling NOT MEGAMAN for for WiiU $29.99. I saw it at Target on clearance for $14.99, so I bought it. It scanned for $8.99. Poor Kickstarter backers.
I gave it a look, both as a megaman fan and as a common joe... Still hated it. Level design was annoying, bosses were either broken AF or easy as hell, and the damn game froze on me 10 BLOODY TIMES! 10 TIMES! And it was always at the end of the damn level! Now, to be fair, the game did take a long time to make, and from what I've learned of games that were delayed eternally (cough, duke nukem forever, cough), the games tend to come out badly. But come on! I had a better time playing Megaman battle network transmission, which is by many considered the worst game in that series. Also.... The music. It's meh. Just meh. The abilities are dumb too. I only found myself using 2 of them. Well, I did use the other ones, but that was because certain puzzles and bosses forced me to do it.
But, before people call me a dirty hater, I will admit the game does have some cool aspects. I like Beck's design, Call looks cute, and the bosses have cool voice actors and personalities. Hell, if the game was made more like Nefarious, where you could interact with them after completing their levels, I probably would have liked this more.
I share your sentiments about mighty no.9 wholeheartedly. I just finished playing Gravity Circuit and I feel it does the fast pace gameplay with classic mega man level design much better than MN9. I think if they removed a lot of the bs instakill traps that work better with a more traditional mega man game and find another way to penalize the player while still encouraging momentum in playing the level the game would feel more satisfying
To me, the problem with Mighty No. 9 is that the level design is against you at all times. There are parts where, if you don't perform pixel perfect dashes, you die instantly. The game had potential, but the level design fucked it up. Also the weapon switching. That too. In Mega Man, switching weapons was great. You could get into position, pause, switch weapon, unpause, and attack. Here, you can't do that.
This game was at thr very least, a good example of what not to do. Maybe this helped with mega man 11's design. Like weapon switching is so much better. Using the right stick or the triggers to switch between special weapons
Have you played 20XX? It's a rogue like Megaman clone developed by a small indie team that also had a kickstarter a few years ago. The game has changed drastically since it's kickstarter debut, but for the better. And so far, it's already looking much better than Mighty No.9, despite not having any of the Megaman team associated with it.
There's still hope {:0 the 3ds and Vita versions are in development as we speak. Deep Silver could still make improvements to offer a better experience. The Creators biggest mistake was putting more work in the game's success than the game itself. If Keiji Inafune still wants this genre to pull through, Then the smart thing to do is to make a little changes to the mechanics, more polished graphics, redesigns to some levels, better move sets, better voice acting, and a proper way to tell the game's story. They have this time to make this improvement for the 3DS and PS Vita version. And if they plan on making a sequel, they should not go to Kickstarter.
I agree with this video completely. The only thing bad about this game is level design. Also, some bosses are bullshit, but I could get passed most of them (aside from the final boss!!)
Mighty Gunvolt Burst highlights the potential of what this game could've been. Hell, it made me realized that I liked the universe the Inafune was trying to build, but the level design was what was holding Mighty no. 9 back. Its a shame there will probably never be a second game for the series to hit it's stride. Even Megaman was sloppy in it's first game, its the second game that's a beloved classic.

Im not shocked you deleted the thread to be honest. I have a feeling you will probably delete this but I'm going to simply try and understand you and break down what I was trying to convey (try carefully reading this as i will try typing this carefully as well). From what I can get, you attempt to have a fair review of M#9 as in excluding the negativity with peoples disappointment and only from a fresh pair of eyes. You go over stating that you will take a balanced review weighing the good and mostly bad aspects of this game. Previously I asked "did you enjoy the game?". I asked this because it is, as of now at least, my opinion that one should review a game/critic a medium based on the experience, enjoyment, reaction given to it and what ever relates to that. To have an "unbiased" review with this mentality is a contradiction as it embodies opinionated ideas but when done right, can invoke debate and learning. To break down a medium of entertainment, which evokes emotions and reactions through consumption, with only/mostly logic feels disconnected and robotic. I truthfully didn't take the time to process what was being said back to back but hindsight is 20/20. In the end, I feel as though M#9 isn't a fun game to play and wouldn't recommend it to someone. You go over the positives of it and, as stated in the video, the good sides to it but you can do that to ANY game. It feels more genuine when a reviewer takes in to consideration how they felt and describe why they think that way. (I understand that you probably avoid thinking that way, but that is fine by me- your opinion) To end off on the most pressing of thoughts is the idea of being bias. I like Mighty No. 9 And is a fan of it. It reminded me of Mega Man X in a way. I also liked how Mighty Gunvolt Burst had a classic MegaMan styled DLC of Mighty No. 9 Beck. I like Mighty No. 9 cause it reminds me of MegaMan. The gameplay, characters, OST BGM Soundtrack, and storyline reminds me so much of MegaMan. And I'd like to see the Mighty No. 9 Animated series become an actual TV Show. I've seen and played far worse thing than this. So I'm just curious is all. Is there anyone else who actually likes Mighty No. 9? I still find it enjoyable. And Keiji Inafune can make a sequel game. And update the graphics and gameplay quality. And get the show going. I know I'm not the only one out there that likes Mighty No. 9 for what it is. Besides It's not the worse thing out there.

The thing is mighty number nine has megaman x movement but it has megaman level design
