A fan-made Back to the Future 4 trailer brings back the original stars and casts Tom Holland in a new role. Written by Bob Gale and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the Back to the Future trilogy was released from 1985 to 1990, following the time-traveling adventures of high school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), who builds the DeLorean time machine. Though the two sequels weren't as highly regarded as the original, the trilogy has cultivated a dedicated fan following who have long advocated for a fourth Back to the Future film.
While the fan-made Back to the Future 4 trailer imagines Michael J. Fox returning as Marty McFly, it's unlikely he would do so. The actor officially retired in 2021 due to Parkinson's disease, and it would be difficult to imagine anyone else playing his role. The fan-made trailer, however, does provide a serviceable blueprint for how the Back to the Future franchise could continue by shifting the focus to Jake McFly. In recent years, Hollywood has come to rely on nostalgic legacy sequels to classic movies, so the possibility of Back to the Future 4 can never be truly ruled out.

@rebekahrobinson6928 what gave it away for me is the lack or limited facial expression in Tom Holland. I don't know much about AI but I remember seeing a few commercials on TV within the past two or so years and I saw the same thing in the face which led me to believe it wasn't real but AI generated. I believe the system will use AI in the future to the extent that we will have trouble even knowing what is real and what isn't. Scary stuff for sure if you can't discern it for what it is.

Nobody needs to make this happen, the Trilogy is perfect as it is, should be left alone, won't be the PERFECT trilogy if anyone messes with it. Also a sequel anytime soon can be ruled out due to the fact Zemekus and Gale have control of the franchise and said it won't happen as long as they are breathing. Also I don't see where Jake McFly magically came from, somewhere outta left field I guess, the character never existed in the series, you can't continue a story with a character that never existed. The original trilogy established that Marty and Jennifer had two children Marty Jr. And a daughter Marlene. Who is Jake a 18th cousin 6 times removed who never met Marty, how'd he even meet doc who's off with Clara and family somewhere. Not feasible to me.
And another question would be WHY THE HELL DOES JAKE HAVE A BRIT ACCENT?
Technically a sequel was made with the games but their canon status is debatable. But I agree with you, leave this franchise alone.

I think it’s great that they’re trying to include the original actor, Michael J. Fox and Doc, but having a guy with a British accent, trying to pretend to be Michael J. Fox just doesn’t work.

It’s not completely unreasonable though. Doc Brown had 2 kids - Jules & Vern with the latter looking like a troublemaker. Grown up versions of them could get into hijinks with one or multiple time machines. Christopher Lloyd could return for it but stories with those boys could be completely independent of the McFly bloodline

This is not just a movie, the back to the Future movies represented a great time in American culture. Families going to the movies together and experiencing something that was so much more special then it is today. I hope with all my heart that this is real.
It was a wonderful time to live in America. Our heroes were powerful and bad guys really were bad, no moral equivalent. Loved the 80's!

I was born in 1973, so I'm raised on cinema of the 80s and 90s. When I was young, we're talking classics like: Back to the Future, Terminator, Aliens, Platoon, The Game, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Schindler's List, Forrest Gump, Seven, The Abyss, The Matrix, American Beauty, Silence of the Lambs, Pulp Fiction and The Shining. Absolute gems to this day, and that is just off the top of my head. Films so well written that it defies belief today! I feel sorry for cinema owners today. What are they going to show? Shite like Dune 2, X-Men Returns yet again once more time for the final time until the next time we need money, Fast & Furious 76, the 6th installment of some animation film, yet another woke-bomb from Disney or maybe yet another all-woman sexist remake of whatever? 🤮 Shite! On average, I used to go to the cinema once a month, sometimes twice. Today, I go about once a year, I only go to films that look like they break the above pattern and yet I'm still disappointed regularly. My last two were Oppenheimer and Babylon, and they were both terrible.

Imo, bttf never ever needs to get anything else, and needs to remain as a finished legend. All of them can be watched any time and are great. The animated show was supposedly pretty good also, but there is absolutely no way a sequel could be done now. Much of the crew and cast would be replaced, and mj fox and lloyd, perfect as they were, would have to be cameos since its been so long.

I think the answer is constraint not restraint. I would love for the concept to be revisited not in a new sequel but a new trilogy that need not mesh into the original except where it might be particularly humorous. A female oriented version taking the piss out of the parody of sexism used in the originals, with a story focusing on Jennifer, Clara and Mardi's mum and sister, revisiting the flirting feigned ignorance about the fuzzy telescope and leaving Mardi and Doc asleep, "Then why did you bring him?" Don't try to rewrite it or even wrap it, but parallel it in a way that allows the viewer to choose for themselves whether to bring it into the franchise or not to. A parody of the fridge alternative in a way that takes the piss out of Indiana Jones "Haven't I seen this in a movie?" would be the kind of humour that would appeal to me. I'm not saying to turn it into a female movie per se, rather, really take the piss out of moments like seemingly mindless Jennifer being left asleep by doing it to Jules or Verne. Perhaps Clara could turn out to be a maternal ancestor of Mardi and him realise it through de-ja-vous scenarios. I don't think an exploration into another time would work or even another place, but into other movie franchises as real strangely familiar timelines could be quite funny if mentioned only in gesture. Thinking about the style of humour in the outtakes in Galaxy Quest, "It's very tidy."
