i want to wrap myself up in rogers voice like a blanket his voice is just so nice idk
I always say the Moog is the Emotional synth, I don't know why but it really touches the soul somehow, that aspect is very well demonstrated here.
Thank you Roger for your insight and taking the trouble to make this vid. I hope people appreciate the effort you have made.
Why so many haters ? This guy does his job at it's best. Listen to his music, not the stuff he's talking about the hardware. Those are just tools.
Kudos to Roger for taking the time to make this video. And damn him for making me GAS for a Voyager! ;)
01 Minimoog (1969-1981 & 2016-) 0:00:00

05 Minimoog Voyager (2002-2015) 0:06:32
Love the look of the blue-backlit moog!! What a beautiful looking keyboard.
Pity we didn't get a full demo of it/them.
- I started with a mini moog & have a voyager & ether wavepro in the collection now. I'll always love the moog gear, thanks for the demo. ~ Lovin Life ~
great video!!
Beautiful custom Voyager! I have a thing for custom jobs. On anything, really. Especially Moogs, though. They are works of art, and can be customized in so many ways to suit the personality of the artist.
A very early modular moog was used on Clockwork orange. the structure of the modular was more complex than all synths shown here but the memorymoog. But theye were too complex and difficult to use live. so the minimoog put the most common oscillator-mixer-filter combo into a small package.
just like heaven
very nice, minimoog is very nice
Thanks. I actually always hear of Moogs, but since I have no musical ability, I have wondered exactly what one is. Reminds me of the Soundtrack for A Clockwork Orange.
roger is a fabulous guy, a very musical keyboard player
sort of rick wright
not a technical genius
but very emotional
like him
May the Source be with you
The Moog Source is an incredible musical instrument. I was able to create so many cool spacey sounds, like the spacey part on Yes's Relayer and some incredible computer digital sounds. This Synthesizer is AWESOME! You can really get Pink Floydish with it. By the way Roger O'Donnell kind of Sounds like Ralf and Florian from Kraft Werk.
You definately play very tastefully and have quite an impressive collection of Moogs. I have only the Micro and an Ash Lunar Voyager and several MoogerFoogers, a Theremin, a Moog drum, and a Moog 921 A Osc Driver.
that keyboard bass player your talking about is kerry hatch and was the original bass player for oingo boingo!
Exactly what I was thinking!
I had a micromoog. first synth ever for me.
Actually, I heard the 'Burning Down The House' solo was played by Bernie Worrell (Parliament) on a MemoryMoog. I've got one, and I have in fact been able to replicate that sound exactly...sweet!
Damn this is golden dope that I've just found
Actually Bob Moog wasn't really behind the concept of the MiniMoog at first. The prototype was built by Bill Hemsath in his spare time using spare parts. Also the MemoryMoog had six voices, not eight.
I appreciate your frustration, it would be nice to hear more, but actually I kinda of liked hearing how close the voyager was in tone to the older polymoog in this case.
Exelente 👍
If you listen to these synths on UA-cam there's really no way to tell a difference between them and a software synth, but i was really there i'd be like HOLY SHIT
Master
Did dude go to the future to buy an upgraded PC, digital Mixer, sound monitors and couple of digital synthesizers to take back to 1983? Genius!
I saw him playing keyboards for the CUre at Dodger stadium in 89
Let me add that if you use it through an effect processor you can get some cool spacey sounds.
True. I knew a guy with that last name from Germany, same thing.
There are so many negative people in the comment section. It just breaks my heart when I see those rude comments! Roger is such an amazing person and musician in particular. No one deserves that, ok? Fix up your life and don't comment this negativity, please! Great job, +RogerODonnellTV your music is so beautiful and this video is very entertaining by the way. Sending you lots of positive vibes from Russia :))
@noizy4 Minimoog isnt an organ, its a synthesizer - completly different instrument lol The idea of a synth is you can "synthesize" different sounds. Most of the moog synths only play one note at a time. I think the memory moog could play 8 notes at a time. Most of todays synth are digital and are alot more flexible but analogue synths have a "sound" to them that still make them popular today, even though they can only play one note at a time!
From what I've heard..............I would say that a MULTIMOOG is probably the most versatile monophonic NON-MODULAR synthesizer ever.
yeah..
midi came out in 1983.
and most moogs were made in the 70s.
so.. no.
in the late 80s,a company called studio electronics sold a kit to install midi on old analog beasts whith quite a success.
wao...you must be the person rick wakeman wnats to be, right?
for people like me, who want to leanr about this machines, this video is amazing and much better than most of the moog videos in youtube.
please post yours, i want to see all your vintage gear wiht you leaving every other player eating dust.
bonzo the flying mariwana stick wuz here, i like mr moog,awesome!!!
Voyagers ARE still being made. So are Little Phattys. So are Moog theremins. I wouldn't DARE to modify vintage gear. Just the new stuff. Check out my vids of my custom Little Phatty!
The Cure are the greatest, but I must say that Robert made a fatal error when he ousted Roger. Well, at least I got to hear Plainsong live with its huge, sweeping synth part when they stopped in Detroit on the Curiosa tour.
wooooow
i need his help finding a patch for my Behringer MOTÖR 61 for the white noise splash in the A Forest they used after 85 and in 92 so i can finish my song
@MOSacid dude you're wrong it's mogg! rhymes on fog, bog or log.
composing with others adds something for sure, but it also takes away what could of been done by yourself. or maybe i'm just crazy like dat.dat..that.
Roger, as a Moog user, maybe you know of a "cure" for my Source which seems to have a dead battery. I'd be grateful for any advice on how to rescue the synth as i plan to hook it up to my pulse+ .Thanks and keep OSC-illating-Pete
@jamesallan87 Isnt that the point? To show a common theme amongst them?
hi, Roger
Roger, start using your Moogs with The Cure! Enough of the digitals.
@partsas
That is a very silly statement. Just about every moog is an absolute masterpiece, especially this one.
@flowerpower111 no its not its "moag" not "mog" or "moog"
Please try putting a short clip out of you doing some Synergy(-Larry Fast)...
Wasn't this guy in STARGATE?
what is that patch your using it sounds like the bass sounds from steve winwood while u see a chance on 1:31
@flowerpower111 like moo - guh? it's supposed to be like "vogue", "mogue??" moog. anyhow.
Is there a diy moog for raspberry pi or an android moog app?
are you the guy who makes the music for 80s movies?
everytime he says MEWG it it like someone jabbed a knife into my ear and wiggled it all around.
He could get all those bland sort of sounds on a Casio PT70..Better yet, a Korg Triton. But using the M00gs makes it automatically that much cooler..& acceptable. Saw him perform live once, with The Cure...awhile back. He played a Roland JX8p with PG-800 programmer on top.
@hongdekong He doesn't say 'Muug'. Don't you mean "it's 'Mogue' (like rogue) not 'Moog'."?
@hongdekong spells different
I'm in the mood for a moog, I prefer those early keyboards better sounds all round...
i thought the video said rosie o'donell shows off moog.. lol..
@666flatliner What's what accent? Do you mean 'hongdekong' is pronouncing it how Americans do (although I still think it's wrong :] )?
@AudioBryon and know how to break it down MOOG style
@Cds56 yeah pronounced like vogue!
I have a micromoog.
Is that James Spader?
sale el moggh ke tenia andy fletcher de depeche modeeee
man dont you use any rez on the filters???
@discothief
People are buying anything made by moog, because all their synths have loads of phatness and personality.
Sorry,
I meant to say "made before 1990."
I've heard the man himself, Bob Moog, say his own name many times. It's pronounced "mogue" like "vogue". If you don't like it, tough shit! It's the guys name for Christ sake. It's not open for debate.
I love that you love your synths, but after all your years in the business, you've managed to make each different synth sound the same as, and as dull as, the last!
just curious..are all these Moogs midi?
I didn't know James Spader played synths.
well... i dont really like the sound of any of the songs that he played. but those moogs are pretty cool.
No need to be arrogant. Don't be so sure anything you'd make would be "hot" to others either. These things are old and vintage, so it's not a bad thing for people who probably will never have one in their lives to witness this. Say what you want, it was obviously intended as a demo, not making hot crap like you claim you can do.
Shut up :)
Hardware RULES!
moog rymes at vogue!
so it isnt muugk.
Bob explains at the moog site.
some people never learn, even if you have a shit load of muugks.
And yes im jalous at your muugks collection.
I own a voyager, its not the signature piece but one of the 800 50 year anniversary with a signature of Bob.
sounded lovely tho....
@RogerODonnellTV Nike IS pronounced Nikey. Just like the Greek goddess of victory for which the shoe brand is named after. There were also Nike missiles used back in the 50's. They weren't pronounced like Mike either. You can't change the facts even if you were in the Cure pal. Proper names aren't up debate Rogger.
hardware=win
No hardware = :'[
@cannonstudios lol
Actually, Moog was shicked, He intended it as a sort of sound effects "scratchpad" and didn't think itwas musical or stageworthy due to oscillator drift. Nonetheless, it started the revolution tow stage "performance" synthesizers and de-geeked that class of instruments
Sounds like a Nintendo game soundtrack.. like Zelda or something.
@sacredgeometry dude... no sh*t
mowg, not mewg
I'm not sure I like his style... Cure was good, but O'Donnell... I wish he'd show what the synths can do, not just what he does.
its moog not muug
only con is $
Poooooot!
he probably left the cure because he grew up and started playing real music
I hate when people say moog like a cow :(
He has a buttload of moog's but still doesn't know how to say 'Moog' right.
roger u should show nothing...
Jesus, he made those keyboards sound so boring. What a waste of a lot of amazing keyboards!
huh, go figure. As a huge Cure fan, I am bummed to discover ODonnell is uninteresting, and knows nothing about synths.
It's amazing that someone can claim to collect "Moooogs" and not know anything about them, such as the Micromoog being his first one but not even knowing how many oscillators it had, and the Memorymoog being 8 Mini's in one box? Nah. I like the cure but the music he's playing along to here is truly dreadful, as is the unimaginitive synth sounds (or sound, singular) used to demonstrate them. I could fart more musically. Next!
ugly sounding music. and NOT in a good way. . Sorry. i do dig the voyagers "tv screen" though.
