That play where Mahomes stopped running right as he got to being out of bounds so he would get hit was bull shit. He got hit and stood right up and was looking at the ref the entire time as he was raising off the ground. Thank God the ref knew it would be too blatant of help seeing as he was still inbounds. If he stepped out of bounds and stopped and got hit it would be different.

You cannot play defense in the clutch against the chiefs because the refs manufacture penalties against the DBs and simultaneously allow the chiefs to headlock your dline. The chiefs defense is allowed to do anything it wants to your qb and oline. They swallow whistles against the chiefs for basic infractions like offsides (allowing them to time their get off), while for mahomes it's a free play. And if your defense makes a key play, the refs still find ways to help; mahomes has 30 turnovers reversed by penalty going into this season. You literally have to play perfect, not because the chiefs are that good, but because the refs are that biased. It's unwatchable.

nah it wasn't this bad with Brady. this is a circus. If they are going to call those roughing the passer, then a defender needs to show the league what ACTUAL roughing the passer is. If you're going to get penalized for breathing on Mahomes, you might as well target his head with your helmet and launch into him. You're going to get penalized either way, might as well get your licks in and take him out of the game.

The people who manipulate NFL games...remember the NFL is officially and legally in the "entertainment" business and not the "competition" business...create narratives and ensure the narratives happen, just as in any soap opera. Just like pro wrestlers, football players can and do get hurt playing their roles, because physical things are happening but most games are close enough that a couple of inexplicable but well-timed officiating calls can flip the point spread.

      1. The refs love the Chiefs so much they called a ticky tack hands to the face on their LT on the play right before the DPI that wiped out a 20 yard Kelce completion. You know... it was the whole reason they were in a 4th and 16.
      2. The very next play was the LEGIT DPI on Rice. Everybody saw it. The DB clearly went through the back and early and affected Rice's ability to make a play on the ball. It's not even controversial.

Yeah, these QBs who played back in those NFL days - wow, this has got to be an absolute joke to these guys. I do NOT care who wins the SB - well, as long as it isn't the skanky Eagles. Those "roughing the passer" calls were horrible. If they stick to this rule, then a QB should not be able to run out of the pocket and if he does, then he should get penalized the same as "roughing the passer". These obviusly missed or wrong calls should be able to be reversed - period.

anytime a QB crosses the line of scrimmage he becomes a running back and can be hit as such. This would keep the QB from sliding feet first and taking shots to the head as he is going down. Also penalty for fake slides

Theismann is 100% right on this. The NBA allows challenges to officiated calls and that's how most of the challenges are used. Because coaches have a finite amount of challenges they have to pick their spots. The game isn't slower because a coach is challenging a foul instead of whether someone's foot was out of bounds. It's the same kind of review delaying the game for the same amount of time. The NBA refs then explain to the audience exactly why the challenge overturned the call or fail. The NFL should adopt the same system

the NFL attempting to have it both ways . trying to market the sport to a broader audience by changing the nature of the sport itself. there are people that think football is a violent sport and it is . its a sport built on intimidation. the fans of the sport get it attempting to appease those who aren't fans won't work. You end up compromising the integrity of the game. Like taking drag racing and having everyone slow down because speed is dangerous. its not fair to put refs in a position to make the sport safe not their job. the NFL has things so messed up that i dont even think the officials know what to do or call.

  • @JagAss-ls7ie

I am making a political statement here that the NFL is much like another autocratic institution in this country. I don't care what side of the fence you're on there, but I can't imagine too many people rooting for the NFL throughout this playoff round and new round of scrutiny. Goodell message: If you don't like it, there's the door, otherwise shut up and take it.
That message is for everybody, including media commentators during the broadcast, no less. So I'm sure they will hear it from above, but I think Troy Aikman already knows that as he's saying it.
Good for him. That's credibility. I like that.
I hold him in high esteem for his candor on national TV.
Yes, I'm making a larger statement here, that what's blurted out goes against the narrative, so why promote a losing narrative to begin with? What coalition of interests is being served by it? Does that coalition have more rights and more say than everyone else?
You can't just get away with everything forever and expect everybody to just shut up and take it. Somebody's going to say something eventually. Consensus reaches a critical mass, and thus a change happens because people in high places in their respective institutions disrespected the game for too long.
Remember Omar on The Wire saying to McNulty in the cemetery, ["...that's not how I think the game should be played...] at the highest level at the hardest level. Omar was a stone cold killer, but a man has to have a code, no doubt. Otherwise it's not worth watching and paying into.
The story on The Wire was that everybody, and thus their institutions, were selling out
instead of sticking to what they should be.
Somebody's selling out in the NFL, and Goodell's emblematic of that.
    The exiting regime
drew ever more criticism from a broader coalition of interests. That's why they lost. And that's why there's a new president today.
Same thing goes for the NFL, with influences as insidious, perhaps with regard to a number of munny things operationally (read: Vegas.)
    If the Bills win...
