I made it through 2 min 34 sec. All I can say is, "Can we change up the rhythm a bit." And, do you take it to the gig or invite everyone over to your driveway???
The majority of halfway decent drummers I know personally can play both. If I remember correctly, my school wanted a couple years of piano before they'd let you in the band to play drums.
Dude! this has been on my play list for a few years. Every now and then, when it comes up, I remember how cool it is. The first time I saw it I loved it and still do. I want to lay a guitar track down to it!
That was awesome. Amazing. Ur big design was outstanding. I applaud u. U have a talent, dude. An amazingly awesome one. Well done. Thumbs up all the way!👍
synapflux NLN Thanks! The last time I had to perform this was the first time since this video was made... And I played it slower every time. It is a real workout! :P
Yes, they are specific notes! The note layout and the tuning process are both on my FAQ, but basically it started with a formula to approximate the length for a specific note, then just a regular tuner and a lot of cutting to actually get the note!
Be sure to rinse used sewer tubing before assembling and performing with open ends aimed at audience.. jk. I love it ! I'm more than impressed.. inspired is more like it. Thanks for sharing your video !
This is not only extremely clever but, for someone who is addicted to classical music only, a revelation! Wonderful woody, warm tones. Fantastic...really well done!
The "buzzing vibration sound" sounds like its from an 80's action movie. I don't know how else to explain it but when you hear this song Sarah Conner better start running the terminator is coming! Or when this song plays you KNOW 30 henchmen are about to be round house kicked by Chuck Norris!
God, imagine if you were to incorporate alot of the unorthodox musical instruments. Like having this with a keyboard hooked up to floppy disc drives (if you haven't heard of it, there is videos of floppy disk drives being used to make music) as well as other things to make some kind of outcast of music band
It sounds and looks awesome, and tiring. I really like how you always had the cameras hidden, that's something a lot of people do and I, personally, find it unprofessional. Good job!
Josiah Croel Haha, thanks! My secret? I only had one camera back then :PMultiple takes, and a lot of editing in Movie Maker (yes, good old Windows Movie Maker!)
Amazing I wondered how you was going to blow that enormous great Vacuum cleaner. The tune you playing reminds me a bit of the Doctor Who theme tune how about having a go at playing that on this incredulous instrument.
thejerrymobile They're a group of guys that paint themselves blue and do wacky percussion-based performances with unusual or improvised instruments, like your tubulum. (But you said you were inspired by them. Are you sure you're not sure? I don't want to come off sounding condescending...)
NobeGaming ... It's a bit of a long explanation, and even then it probably wouldn't be funny. :P So I guess the short answer is that it's there because I can't take it out!
I know I’m 12 years late. But I found out that the blue man group tubulum that looks like this was MIDI! It’s crazy to see someone who made an acoustic version
*What the hell man?! No link to Schematics?!* At least give us the pipe lengths inventory list and number of attachments so we can put it together like some crazy puzzle.
The FAQ is linked from my channel page! Taking a look at that is a good place to start if you are interested in building a PVC instrument, and if that doesn't answer your questions, I would be happy to help! Although I must forewarn you that I can't provide an exact schematic, because I didn't work off of one myself!
That's actually pretty good English! If you would like, I can help you understand anything people might be saying, or help you phrase something correctly! \(^o^)/
I love how you are playing outside; the stereotypical "band in the garage"comes to mind, but it seems like this was successful in not offending neighbours if you had to do multiple takes?
actually I don't know if it's because of ignorance in sound engineering, but to me it sounded like you were inside at first! must be the tubes effect but very nice and good job!
Andjela Tatarovic Haha, thanks! Actually the video and audio were recorded separately! The audio was from an indoor recording, and laid over my outdoor shoot! Since at that time I was working with very rudimentary software, it was quite a feat to actually sync up multiple takes! ^^;
Oh wow, I just realized your they guy that posted this! Well, blue or not, this is pretty sweet, man! Most people can learn how to play an instrument fairly well, but to build one this complex yourself is truly creative and artistic! Kudos. Did you design it as well, or are there plans for this sort of thing out there? Either way, good job man!
Alexander Pataki Haha, thanks! I did design it, and unfortunately there aren't step-by-step plans out there for this one specifically. But I do have an FAQ linked from my channel page that's a pretty good source of information on PVC instrument building! :)
+tempest091 It's assuming that he actually does, for all we know he's self taught. Plus, he actually did build the thing he's playing (meaning he "tuned" it), so at the very least he's got potential.
What dulcet wonders can be wrought from pedestrian polyvinylchloride! This magnum opus of yours outpowers many a tympanic tirade coaxed from more orthodox paraphernalia. I'd love to get in on the engineering behind such a feat of flourish. I suppose the purpose of the restful interlude by the rill was to allow the compositional juices to flow--the jarring back into real time only cements the neural novelty for transmittal down your arms and out your digits. wouldn't it just be weird imagine, sitting in your backyard on a nice hot day with some lemonade in your hand in a bathing suit getting ready to relax and all of the sudden you hear this and then more beats coming and people start joining and your just sitting their staring
I played this video twice before i could even begin to compliment the raw talent and creativity he has!!..One word..BRAVO
Merrilee Crytser Thank you! :)
Had to come back and check it out... haven’t seen this video in at least 5 years 👑👑
Thanks UA-cam recommendations! Wow 10 years ago...
Make that 11!!!
I made it through 2 min 34 sec. All I can say is, "Can we change up the rhythm a bit." And, do you take it to the gig or invite everyone over to your driveway???
I was inspired by Blue Man Group and other PVC instrument makers! It's called the Monster Tubulum, which is my first tubular percussion instrument.
First time I've ever seen this and true badassery my friend
Are you still playing this or have you upgraded it?
You built THAT?
Now THAT is dedication.
Well done and the music coming from you is epic, thank you for it.
JemmetGK blue man group
I've been researching into making a marimba and found a fantastic website at Delfords magic plan (google it if you're interested)
This is what happens when a keyboardist and a drumer make children😅😅😅😢
Nah, that’s called a marimba. This is bastard child of a plumbing supply salesman who used to be in choir and a percussionist.
@@otmq XD
Drummers can't have children. It's in their biology.
The majority of halfway decent drummers I know personally can play both. If I remember correctly, my school wanted a couple years of piano before they'd let you in the band to play drums.
@@otmq Probably boomwhackers or slapophone?
Dude! this has been on my play list for a few years. Every now and then, when it comes up, I remember how cool it is. The first time I saw it I loved it and still do. I want to lay a guitar track down to it!
Good seeing this video again after 7 years
That was awesome. Amazing. Ur big design was outstanding. I applaud u. U have a talent, dude. An amazingly awesome one. Well done. Thumbs up all the way!👍
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it! :)
Ur welcome! :)
thejerrymobile oooooooooooooooooo
Lol.
My arms got tired just watching this. lol Nice job!
LOOOOOL good one :P
It's all in the wrists! Though I imagine his wrists would have been very tired too after this.
synapflux NLN Thanks! The last time I had to perform this was the first time since this video was made... And I played it slower every time. It is a real workout! :P
THAT SOUNDS KILLER, I WANT ONE. METAL WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. CHEERZ BROTHER. KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD.
Yes, they are specific notes! The note layout and the tuning process are both on my FAQ, but basically it started with a formula to approximate the length for a specific note, then just a regular tuner and a lot of cutting to actually get the note!
Description talks about another video getting 1000 views. This one got 8.3 million and counting. Good job!
When recording how do you place the microphones?
sirspikey This one was made with a single overhead mic! ^^
Well that worked great, thnx :)
h hgyghvvtgrxctbn:lkkjyhctgfvhbytgtviktftyhbikygvtcv
+sirspikey thats what I wanted to ask... I think the notea could be more appreciated with a better sound take
+sirspikey Inside pipes. xD
This is awesome. I don't know how anyone could not like it. Great work!
holy shit! its like an alien instrument xD nice video, sounds great
Haha, thanks!
The deepest inset is on the 3rd row, 2nd pipe. This must be his favourite note.
It might be 3rd row 3rd pipe though.
Edit, i cant count
Be sure to rinse used sewer tubing before assembling and performing with open ends aimed at audience.. jk. I love it ! I'm more than impressed.. inspired is more like it. Thanks for sharing your video !

Bah Hab Haha! It is the all-acoustic analog synth! XD
Bah Hab @
Fantastic!! You should get together with Yuki on the space drum and the guy with the yaybahar and form a kick-ass band! Great job, Jerry!!
God, imagine if you were to incorporate alot of the unorthodox musical instruments. Like having this with a keyboard hooked up to floppy disc drives (if you haven't heard of it, there is videos of floppy disk drives being used to make music) as well as other things to make some kind of outcast of music band
I love unconventional music makers! check out my channel page for a couple of examples! :)
a lot is 2 words...
Music made with floppy drives already exists! Look it up!
So.... blue man group then yeah?
Floppotron wooooooo
One of the best videos I have ever 'wasted' time watching. I could waste another six minutes. Yes. I will watch this again.
Can u make one out of clear tubing n put different color lights in it, to light up wit every tap?!
Possible but hard and expensive
+Duke Lethbridge if your the blue man group sure....
past thepost We were talking about coloured lights, not spelling. Shush scrub.
Ok boss.
past thepost Sorry, didn't mean to hurt your feelings boo
Feel that, kid? That's me loving how freaky cool you are. Thanks.
Wearing the blue shirt sure was a nice touch blue man!
tsunami770 I was about to ask wasn't the rhythm he is playing from blue Man group
Loved this! Thanks for the break in the park too. I needed that!
That thing looks terrifying. Like it could be turned into a giant leafblower
It doesn't just blow, it creates a tornado
Okay sounds great but does it come with a gig bag?
+bluesborn Yeah, but the zipper broke.
+Father Thyme Wow, really...??
Gig bag by Omar....
folds up and fits into the overhead storage on the plane...
Ha ha ha
I love the sound
This would be great with a band
Really, unreal. Ingenious. Creating & tuning it, makes you the only person that can play it. Cool.
Now. Were you rushing, or were you dragging?
Lmfao
Sneaky peaky like!
+Aron Lee Whiplash!! lol
+Aron Lee *fist* Again!
Willy Wonka One two three *slap* One two three *slap*
I would like to plug this to an amplyfier. It got any stereo jacks?
Which tube one do you like hitting the most?
He likes "hitting" the bong pipe in the middle.
Ever tried holding down a bass-line in a group-setting ? Guess not.......
GREAT JOB, Dude!! Just discovered this video, and you've done a GREAT job!!
I made a few videos with movie maker and it takes a TON of effort to make it look good, props to you man.
haha it's now 15 july 2014 exactly 4 years later and it's still fun :-)
OMG. It actually is.
And now to working on those "more videos" that I seem to somehow keep promising...
(^_^;)
Amazing I wondered how you was going to blow that enormous great Vacuum cleaner. The tune you playing reminds me a bit of the Doctor Who theme tune how about having a go at playing that on this incredulous instrument.
why hasn't this made it to america's got talent show yet... this is totally awesome!!!
YOUR SMILE IS SO CUTE WHEN YOU PLAY THAT MEANS YOU LOVE PLAYING I FEEL YOU
welleschan men don’t say that bich
@@cl._.-7178 Real men let others show feelings, you still seem to be stuck in the 50s
Reminds me of the blue man group.
Funnyskilletgirl777 It is, kinda :P Glad you liked it! :)
thejerrymobile What's Blue Man Group?
Snubby J (I'm not sure, but it sounds weird ;)

He left his drumsticks by the tree.
If he found his book and glasses next to the tree, then no wonder he found the sticks on his way back home. Magic!

You should do one of the Tetris themes
You must go to a talent show! (sorry for bad english i am German) :)

Fantastic instrument & fantastic playing. Felt like the drums & bass were combined into one instrument
Wooohhh!!! that is so cool! you really rock it!
This is pretty cool. I'd love to see 1 or 2 more of these built with higher ranges for harmony sections.
I made one, once. It is no longer with us, but I have HQ samples of it I'm working on making into a playable virtual instrument! :)
