Thank you so very much for you expertise. When you want to learn and do good work, this is what I am looking for. Someone to walk through all different aspects of pastles.
Thank you so much, Sue. Very useful for me to go through all different materials, papers and all sorts of pencils and sticks and how they behave differently. I learned lots!
What an excellent vidio . Especially for people like me who are new to pastels. So Informative Sue you have covered everything . I have really learned a lot from this so Thankyou.
Lots of great information here! I’ve always wanted to dabble in art but haven’t had the opportunity until having to unexpectedly retire. I’ve always been able to draw a bit so I thought painting would be wonderful, it’s not NEARLY as easy as drawing. Then I thought I’d give colored pencils a try but couldn’t afford the artist grade and just couldn’t get the vibrancy I wanted. So obviously my next step was... sculpting. I love to do it but with my disability I have to do it in short bursts (takes its toll on the creative process). Then I had a pastel video pop up on UA-cam and I couldn’t believe I’ve never even considered them before! I got a set of short sticks to get me started and I’m saving up for some pencils. I love the loose look of soft pastels but I’m always trying to work in a little detail so I think the pencils will be a better fit. Makes me wish we had UA-cam when we were growing up, might have taken my life in a whole different direction!
If you sharpen a woodless graphite pencil every so often (say after 5 or 6 pastel sharpenings) just a couple of turns is all it takes, it will make the crank handle sharpener last longer. The graphite lubricates the blades & cleans off the pastel. Hope that helps someone.
Thank you. I've tried this and it doesn't work for me. Also, crank handle sharpeners tend to eat pencils fast so it's much more economical to use a knife.
So the pigment that is in panpastels, pastel pencils, or soft pastel sticks are basically all the same just in a different form? So it’s not cheating to mix-and-match?
Thank you Sue, so many useful tips and information
Enjoyable watch, thank you

Can you use oil paint on the cork paper.
Pastelmat is quite expensive. Wondering what is next best to use.
Try wet and dry

Not cheating at all, in fact, I encourage you to try it :)
I haven’t noticed you using lending powder
I don't like blending powder
Have you tried drafting film?
No, I like more tooth on my paper
