    For those of us who are total beginners, we might look at that casting and be discouraged at how the casting void "ruined" the part. Thanks for showing an easy solution to address this. I might not have considered silver soldering the casting as a repair!

    Cutting the crank web like that looked like a horizontal fly cutter.Good advice not to remove the part before drilling! Always something to gain from your tutorials! : )
