    is it possible to use the Nord electro 6 as a midicontroler, when you want to use the synth section on the Nord and the synth section on the midi keyboard? on one video you show the example , when you are use the piano section on the Nord and the synth section on the midi keyboard.

      @user-mg7dp8hi1h Hello Ralf! Yes! It's possible to use the Nord Electro 6 in this way. The concept is officially called "External to Low," and it's where you turn the Electro 6 into a mode that accepts any external MIDI and targets any engine that is currently set to the "low" part/zone. Then, any engine set to play in the the upper part/zone is then driven directly from the Nord Electro itself. In this way, your Electro 6 becomes like two keyboards, each being driven independently from separate inputs (one triggered from the controller and one triggered from the Nord board itself). Keep in mind that while playing in this mode, you cannot split the keyboard into a left and right zone. The entire keyboard is used from both the controller and both the Nord when in this mode. Finally, for those reading this comment, I believe the video you are referring to where I demonstrate this concept is here: ua-cam.com/video/Uct-VVwS2KY/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

    I’m seriously considering this model. Even though my hands would love the hammer action of 6hp but i am mostly on the go, so this model will really be handy as you told in this video it is super light. Nice buy mate. It doesnt look like used. Super mint condition. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

      Yes, it's one to consider for sure. My ONLY slight hesitation with this model is the fact that at times 61 keys is slightly too small. If you find you are playing key bass a lot with your groups, the 73 key will make a welcome difference. If however, you always have a bass player and find you are not having to play bass lines much, the 61 key should do. Of course, you always have the Octave up/down buttons too and you'll find they are easy to adjust mid-play. But, if you're having to hold down bass lines and right-hand accompaniment simultaneously, then I recommend you consider one of the 73 key versions. But with those, the price and weight go up too! The 73 waterfall isn't too bad actually.

      @@MyKeysToMusic you hit the spot here mate. I play bass lines like 80% on my gigs. Hmmmm now im torn apart if i should go with 61 or 73. 🤣🤣 I guess the wallet should be the deciding factor here. Lol but thanks for the advice mate.

      @@remedyofficialvlogs47 Happy to help. A few more tips here and sorry to keep making your decision harder and harder... I'd go 73 if possible if you plan to bring a single board to hold down both bass and right hand. Alternatively, it might work out that you just get a small second board for just the bass sounds and run a two-board rig. That way you can keep the synth engine of the Electro for things like strings, flutes, samples and other sounds without having to worry about sacrificing that sound for the bass. There is also something special about having a dedicated board for just the bass. You don't have to keep splitting the main keyboard and you don't have to fiddle with the bass sound over and over again. I have always found that having a dedicated board for just the bass makes all the gigs far more enjoyable and the band can really lean on me to hold that part down while I'm switching sounds or tweaking things on the main board in anticipation for the solo part and things like that. The bass board can be much smaller too (49 keys or less) and that won't cost you an arm and a leg. Granted, this now complicates the gigs a bit more by bringing a second keyboard and potentially introduces a small mixing board requirement just for you. But you'll find that it helps give you the flexibility (and reliability) in the band plus additional options when you don't play bass to use this board as another enhancement to your performance and sound. (Pro tip: Get a second board with a pitch bend option - which is absent on the Nord Electro). To see what I mean, have a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/YRYJf2J4fO4/v-deo.html

      @@MyKeysToMusic ok let me digest on this for a moment 🤣🤣
      Ok i have a small rig the korg kross. And i think i can do bass on those. But bringing along a second rig is not really... Practical for me yet. I only ride on a scooter. 🤣 I just hope that having the bass on the electro will not eat much of the ram (as ive heard im only limited to 1gb of ram, im not yet getting this concept tbh)
      All your points are well noted though. And you got me thinking tbh. What small rig can u recommend for my bass playing?
      Now lets go back to 61 or 73 keys. Grrrrrr hahaha this is killing me man!! 🤣🤣

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 роки тому +1

      @@remedyofficialvlogs47 Is your plan to bring both the Korg Kross as well as the Electro to the gigs with you? (on the scooter) If so, could you use the Korg Kross for the bass parts? Also using the Nord keyboard for the bass won't use any more memory. The only thing is that it uses the one "synth" slot to make the bass sound. This then leaves you with either piano or organ in the right hand. So for example, you can't have both a bass sound (from the synth engine) as well as let's say a strings sound (also from the synth engine) in the right hand because you can only have one synth/sample sounding at one time with the Electro.

    This key board is new to me in sooooo many ways. I feel blessed to have it. Excited and overwhelmed too! I need time and baby-step help. I will look for real basic tutorials. First, I want to just navigate what I can do with the Piano section, new to pads, and wondered how a pad sound can be consistent in the background and not lifted with the sustain pedal. Any tutorial helps for a new one and new to the technology. This was so helpful to start! LOL

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  2 роки тому +1

      @@maryannconklin7231 So, the free course you might be interested for the Nord Electro 6 is "Master the Nord Sample Editor" when you're ready for that. But that's the only free course that an Electro 6 owner would benefit from that I provide. I do have a sprinkling of Nord Electro 6 videos here on UA-cam as well, and I believe Nord puts out a handful too of tutorials too of course.
      About your specific question. Let me be right upfront with my thoughts on this. The Electro 6 is an easier keyboard to learn than the Stage 3, but the Stage 3 is more effective and quite a bit more flexible in performing worship music overall. With that said, you'll be able to layer the piano and synths together easily on your Electro 6. However, if you are looking for a synth that "holds in the background" while you play piano on the top (which is what most worship players are doing), then this feature isn't built in on the Electro. A workaround is to assign a synth sound and then put the release time to full. This will sort of mimic a "keyboard hold" for you. Have a look at this video from another creator where they use an Electro 6 for worship music and they do this with custom samples I believe, which should also be available as purchasable add-ons from their site: ua-cam.com/video/7EvNAo90mdQ/v-deo.html

    I bought an electro 6 recently even though I already have a 5. I found it for crazy cheap and mint condition ($1100). I wasn’t sure if I’d sell the 5 or 6 but after having both for a couple months I have to say I prefer the 5. I find the keys are much heavier on the 6 and the sound of the EPs and organ isn’t as good as the 5. The only thing I absolutely love about the 6 is that you can fade two different patches when splitting the board, but even with that awesome feature I think I’ll keep the 5 and sell the 6. I’ll surely make at least 4 or 5 hundred bucks.

      David - you got a great deal on your Nord Electro 6! And yes, at this point you'd probably make money on the Electro 6 if you were to sell it. I have an Electro 5 as well which is still my top keyboard for gigs (because it's 73 key). I got the Electro 6 mostly for research and future videos for the channel - not so much for gigging. My master plan was to create training courses for the Nord Electro 6 and then sell the Electro 5. I have a Stage 3 for synth fun and also for gigs as a second board and main controller board for external synths. Thanks for watching and have fun with your two Nords! 😜

      Hello Luis - Not that different when it comes to taking it on buses and planes no. Only different if you are your own roadie. 😁. And if you can spring for the 73 key, I would do that because there are many times where the 61 is a limitation while performing - especially if you find yourself holding down bass parts too using a keyboard split.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Hello @Löru Great question! The answer is both Yes and No and I fell compelled to provide a more elaborate answer here.
      So, there are three sound engines on the Nord Electo 6. Here I've broken down the velocity/KB touch aspects of each:
      1) Organ Engine. There is no touch sensisitvey for this engine. In other words the harder you play the keys, it won't make any adjustments in volume. (this represents what you'd expect to get out of an actual organ). It provides a single volume no matter how hard you play.
      2) The Piano Engine. By defaul the piano engie is touch sensistive and there's no way to turn this off whatsoever. However, you can vary the degree by which the keyboard sensitivy responds to your velocity (or how hard you play). This is done using the "KB touch" option on the front of the panel. Howeve,r no matter what you do for the piano engine, it will always be velocity/touch aware to some degree.
      3) The Synth Engine. With the synth engine you get a choice. You can have it respond to your velocity or not by way of the filter option and something called "Dynamics" on the front panel. If both are off, no matter how hard you play, you'll get the same volume. Also be aware that the attack settings will play a role in volume when you first strike a note, but in any case, this engine gives you the choice wheter or not it responds to your veocity/touch sensitivy inputs. In some cases (like when you're playing samples), you typically want it to be velocity aware, while in other cases, (like imitating a vintage synth), you may not want it to be velocity aware. The settings are a personal choice, but you do get the choice which is very nice.
      Hope that helps clarify things in this regard.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  4 роки тому +1

      Hello @Löru I would say that the answer to your question is mostly yes. You can adjust the envelope of the existing sounds/samples a bit and you can certainly add effects as well. However, you can't manipulate the sounds like you can with the Stage 3 where a synth is mixed in with the samples if you want. Hello Luther Evans. Welcome to the channel! I purchased mine for $1599 in in late 2018 from Reverb.com via ProAudioStar. Later in early 2020 I purchased the Nord Lead A1 also from Reverb.com via the Full Compass Gear Locker. Both arrived like new and no issues on the transactions. My keyboard and music equipment purchase history over the years includes: Guitar Center, Sweetwater, Reverb.com, and most recently, Linda Marie Music. Do I think the Nord Electro 7D is on the horizon? Yes, I do because history repeats itself. However, it's hard to say when exactly. I'm pretty sure we're likely to see either a new Stage or Electro (or both) sometime in 2022. However, I have no direct affiliation with Nord and nor do I know their schedules, plans or timelines whatsoever. And even if I did know their schedules, I would likely not be able to share it here on UA-cam. So like you, we wait and wonder. I leave you with this. If you go ahead and purchase a used Electro 6 now, you can always "trade up" for a Stage 3 or new Electro when they arrive. The Nords appear to hold their value very well for the most part. And what you learn on the Electro is somewhat (mostly) transferrable to the other boards too. All the Nord keyboards use the same manger software and pull from similar (or the same) sound libraries.

      Hi Astronavigator. I think you can do this setup by having your change settings sent only when you are on a particular panel. In other words, according to the extern settings (page 5 on your synth prefs - on the keyboard itself), it appears that you can choose to send program/patch control changes by panel. I'd really want to know the pro/cons on using a 61 or 73 keybed on the performance aspects. I'm looking forward on buying the E6D, but deciding between 73 and 61 keys is giving me a headeach. Consider that i only have one more keyboard (Novation Bass Station2). I will use Pianos/EPs and organs, and some splits for Raggae music.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  6 років тому +1

      Hi Esteban. Sorry for the delay on this comment. Have you already made your decision? If not, read on...The good news about your decision is that in either case, the two keyboards (61D or 73D) are both waterfall and this tends to be the hardest to choose between for most people (waterfall versus hammer action portable). So, if you are a gigging musician and you can afford the 73, go for that. You'll never regret having more real estate while on stage. I can't tell you how many times I've run out of room during an intense solo because I was out of keys on the top end using any 61 key keyboard. Yes, you can use the octave shift to help with all that, but with both hands on the keyboard, getting to the octave shift quickly during a solo can be tricky and it breaks up the flow. And if octave shift is done at the incorrect time, it can really disrupt the performance (more to manage). You also mention wanting the Nord to do some splits too. That's another plus about the 73 key because you have more range on either side of the split when you need it most.
      So, if you can afford the 73 key and you are not worried about the extra weight and larger size that comes with that, go for the 73 key. Doing so will provide you with the extra keys giving you a notable advantage with any circumstance. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

      HI Timo.Thanks for your questions. I purchased the Nord Electro 6 mainly for first-hand knowledge and to support the channel. I figure if I actually have an E5, an E6 and Stage 3, I'd be in a unique position to provide training for all three keyboards and also be able to discuss and demonstrate the details and the differences when needed. What I'm finding is that there are similarities among them (such as how the effects work) yet differences like the synth engines, how layers and splits work etc. So, the investment in the Electro 6 was mainly to expand my overall first-hand knowledge as well as expand the audience potential on the channel. I will likely sell either the E5 or E6 but not both in the coming months when the training is complete. And remember, NAMM is right around the corner and you know that means - a potential new announcement from Nord? So basically, right now, the channel is focused on Nord boards to make it easy for UA-cam visitors who own a Nord know that know they've come to the right place 😎 For gigs, I always use two keyboards and an externally connected rack-mount as well. So, I'll likely have two Nords available for gigs until further notice. Thanks for your questions and stay tuned for more!

    I recently switched from Electro 5D to the new 6D
    For all the advantages of the NE6D, the big disadvantage is the missing balance controller (part mix) to adjust the volume of an engine (sound section) for Lo and Up individually left and right
    Even with single dialing of a keyboard zone, this does not work
    With the organ, this goes better with dual organ by pulling out less dear DB but it is also not comfortable.
    I think this is a real step backwards and I would have to change to play.
    for instance: left strings and right with the same sound a solo
    It is surprising that you can assign a sound sections to both split halves, but you can't edit it individually (octave, volume)
    That worked great at NE5! What is the point of this?

      Hi Gottfried. Sorry for the delay on this response here. I tend to agree with all your findings as well. It seems that with the new architecture of the Nord Electro 6, in many ways we've taken steps forward (ability to play all 3 engines at the same time each with their own mix). While at the same time, we've taken some steps backward by no longer having a single knob to control the mix between a low and high zone.
      And using the split option affects all 3 engines at the same time and there seems to be no difference (nor advantage) by having the split turned on and having a single sound engine playing through both zones. I think this is an artifact of the new architecture. Once in split mode, any engine can play in low, high or both. But having a single sound engine play in both zones while in split mode versus just having a single-engine play without split on seems to be exactly the same behavior. In contrast, the Nord Electro 5 splits are not designated by sound engine, they are designated by a generic "low and high". You could, therefore, split the piano engine, have it play in both low and high zones, and derive a different effect in one zone versus the other. For example, you could have delay in the upper zone and chorus in the lower zone all with the same piano engine so long as you invoked the split option and had the piano assigned to both upper and lower. Now let's not forget, that once you do that with the Electro 5, that's all the options you had. In other words, once in that mode, it would be impossible to layer an organ or synth along with the piano at the same time. So, yes, in some ways a step back based on how the zones work in the Electro 6.
      In order to get around these limitations, they would have had to architect the Electro 6 more like the Stage 3 by allowing the user to "morph" volume levels (and therefore a control pedal could mix the two sounds). And then for the situation of the split where we could edit individually, they would need to adopt more of a panel A and B approach. Or they could bring back a generic "Upper and Lower" zone approach. I'm sure this "give and take" is something the designers had to face when choosing what features to build and how that would affect things going forward. I think for most people, the lack of an official song list / set list on the Electro 6 has been by far been the biggest thing mentioned on this channel when comparing the two. Everyone loves the 3 engine layer capability and the seamless transitions and split fades - but yes, we miss some of those existing features!!
      Thanks for your in-depth understanding and insight into these two boards. This was a particularly detailed conversation that I would imagine people brand new to Nord and the Electro 6 as their first keyboard, will not necessarily miss. But for an Electro 5 owner (myself included) it is something that doesn't have an easy workaround for. 😄

    I have a general question about the stage 3, don't know where else to put this. Can I layer two pianos together, one shifted up an octave?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  6 років тому

      Hey Pete. Thanks for your question about the Nord Stage 3. We can start the conversation right here. So, Yes! you can easily layer two pianos together and one can be shifted up/down an octave from the other. Having two pianos playing together would use both "Panel A and Panel B" with each piano on its own panel having the option to be a different octave range. In fact, you can separate just about everything once you have your sound engines playing from either Panel A or Panel B. Think of a "Panel A" as having a single Nord Stage 3 keyboard that can be layered with "Panel B" which is like having an entirely new Stage 3 playing right alongside of it. All the effects, reverb, octaves and most sound related settings are distinct among the panels. Panels do share polyphony, split points, and overall instrument tuning.
      So, for the most part, the panel idea is a powerful one providing for a number of useful combinations. Although, I have to admit there are days where I wish the Nord Stage 3 had like 4 panels because sometimes I need more "synth engines" to get the job done and only having 2 synth engines (one on Panel A and one on Panel B) sometimes has me longing for more. But for the most part, the Stage 3 config gets the job done. Some have reported that other keyboards like the Korg Chronos 2 provides for more split option/engine option capability but I cannot speak to that with any kind of expertise whatsoever.
      Thanks for your question and for watching! Your question would make a good video by the way, however, there is more already slated at the moment. Key your eyes open on a Nord Stage 3 Synth training video coming out soon if you have a deeper interest in that part of the Nord Stage 3.
      For more detailed info on how the Nord Stage 3 sounds engines, split points, and layers work across the panels, you simply must check out this video here: ua-cam.com/video/VlzgEfmcrDE/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!

      @@MyKeysToMusic Thanks for the information. I'm a decades-long Kurzweil user so that colors my questions somewhat. What I'm really after is: can the keyboard be split and layered at the same time so that ... Piano A spans the entire keyboard as normal, then the B piano can be shifted one octave up AND split, say above middle C with no sound on the lower part of the split? This way there is no octave apparent on the bass notes. Hope that's clear.

      Hi Pete, Thanks for the details here. The answer is Yes, the keyboard can be split and layered at the same time. You can turn on the split settings to cut the keyboard in half. Then on Panel A you actually turn the piano on and tell it to play on BOTH splits (you get the net effect of having the piano play across the entire keyboard as if you didn't have the split on at all). Then on Panel B, you tell that piano to play to only play on the right split and up one octave. with absolutely no sound on the left split on panel B. This can be easily accomplished on the Nord Stage 3. I encourage you to watch this video starting at about the 16 minutes and 30 seconds (the link will play at that mark): ua-cam.com/video/VlzgEfmcrDE/v-deo.html&t=989 (I believe it may provide you with a more visual representation of the split/layer capabilities of the Nord Stage 3).

      Haha - Obwanz! Yes - it powered up just fine. It had a very outdated OS though (the original release version of the OS in fact). So, I took a few minutes to update the OS and it works perfectly. I should have mentioned that in the video! 🤭

    perfectly same sound as 73 keys version except this is 61 keys. right?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  5 років тому +1

      Hi James! Thanks for your question. Yes, the 73 versions will produce the same sounds as the 61 key version. Note there are two 73 key versions. First, you have the Electro 6D -73 which is the semi-weighted waterfall and physical drawbars (just like with the Electro 6 D61 key). Then the other choice is the Electro 6 HP (73 key Hammer Action portable) and includes digital drawbars. Only the models with the "D" in the name (representing "drawbars") can have the option to add a half-moon switch (sold separately). Now, choosing semi-weighted versus hammer action portable may be the toughest decision for you and comes down to personal preference. Thanks for watching!

      61 keys hehe. I am a chords-type solo player/singer. so that would suffice, right? you also have a mint condish 61 right? how is it really? great enough?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  5 років тому +1

      @@barryjamesmusicPH Yes, I have a 61 key mint condition Electro 6. Truth be told, there are times where I wanted the "extra keys" of the 73 but I make it work. It's certainly easy enough to use the octave up and down buttons. What I love most about it is that it's super light and easy to move around, store, carry and setup. You may never really know what you need until you use it for a while. The resale value holds well too in my experience if you did need to upgrade/switch it out for one with more keys. If you tend to play key bass as well, you can always split the keyboard and widen the range if you need to.

      Hey Marty. I see you play sax! I played Alto sax from 6th grade through college and it was my main instrument in music school. I haven't touched it in years (it got stolen). I was debating how important an "unboxing video" is in the world of music. Some people really want to see it things unboxed, others could care less. The point on this video was to see what Reverb.com means by "mint condition" Also, UA-cam videos can be watched at 2X speed which I find myself doing these days to find the meat in a video. Anyway, thanks for stopping by.
