Love how you started out quite analytical with some pausing after a couple of sections. But by partway through you were just along for the ride. It sure is an engaging song.
A quote from vessel himself perfectly sums up your intro about genre. Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don't get lost in genres, they'll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.
"Glitchy, sort of digital, yet somehow still organic". Yes. That even crosses into the lyrics. The duality of tech and nature is woven throughout so many of their songs.
As a producer, you must hear more of the sound production, and that's normal. However, I'd like to point out how absolutely poetic and magnificent the lyrics are as well. These dudes just have it all, and I'm all here for it.
Absolutely. This was the song that pulled me into Sleep Token. I stumbled upon a tiktok of the stripped back vocals of the chorus, and as a former English major, the poetry of "My, my, your eyes like fire, I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre" grabbed me by the throat, especially with his gorgeous voice and melody (which I'm always weak to) and I just went down a rabbit hole I still haven't emerged from. I haven't been this invested in a band... maybe ever. The lyricism is just out of this world.
Enjoyed your informative analysis/reaction. Currently Sleep Token only officially consists of Vessel & Vessel II (drummer). Vessel III & IV (bass & guitar) then join them for touring or live performances. As for their identies. Those can be found online. Vessel even confirms his identity in the lyrics of 2 songs on this album where he mentions the name of his previous band. I'll leave it there as plenty of Sleep Token fans would rather not know their identities. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
@Carlos Enrique Unless you know what Vessel's previous band was called you wouldn't ever notice. His previous band was an unusual 2 word name. The first word is mentioned in Ascensionism and the second in Euclid. There are live performances and music videos for Vessel's previous band on UA-cam!
@@PrymalChaos I know the temptation to find out can be quite strong. In a way, I wish I was still ignorant of their identities. I actually found out by accident. At the time I was not trying to discover their identities and was content in my ignorance. Now I have to watch what I say incase I accidentally reveal their identities to those who do not wish to know!😅. Although I have a hunch that their identities will be revealed in the next Sleep Token incarnation. Euclid sounded like the end of a chapter and an uplifting one but the line "I must be someone new", along with Vessel's confirmation/hint of his identity within the album makes me think that they may just be finishing with anonymity.
Knew you must have had fantastic headphones when you picked the birds in the very first second. Love how you just got swept away by the song after the first third. I strongly recommend you go back and listen straight through the album trilogy - Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, Take Me Back to Eden. They all glow together and create a full story. They also have two EPs (One, and Two) - Two has one of my favorite songs by them, "Nazareth." They've been good since they started. Vessel, the main lead, sings, writes lyrics, writes and records guitars, bass, piano, and synth. Their drummer (which we call "ii") is so beyond talented, also - he's about as close to Danny Carey as I've come across the on wild (and half the age). Can't wait for more of your reactions to Sleep Token. Would LOVE to see you do an hour-long, full album reaction to any of the albums.
This entire album from beginning to end absolutely amazing. It's the first time since I can remember I have been able to put an entire album on repeat and listen over and over again. I've heard this whole album probably 10 times already and now I'm going through the reactions, which to my surprise, alot of reactors are also reacting to the album as a whole which i have only seen 1 other time. I have a hard time picking a favorite song lol. "Are you okay" is very emotiona❤
There’s so many ambient sounds throughout the song, every time during the nasty breakdown at the end I wonder if someone’s at the doorbell. I also love the different call-response tones during that breakdown, especially the choir hit. Nothing is random.
This is a great description of his voice. I think that's why it sinks it's hooks into you when he sings, because you can hear the emotions so clearly in his tone. He has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard.
Their guitarist uses an 8 string tuned to double drop e for 80% of their discography but he uses a 6 string for some of the tracks on the new album. From what I understand though, In the studio - Vessel records the guitar parts and they have touring guitarists with them to play live and II is an insane percussionist, there’s some drum playthroughs they have released that are mesmerising and definitely worth a watch if drums get you going 😅
As to the guitar sound, from a guitar-tech on their tour Guitar world got some info about what is used. A Jackson 8-String Directly from the article: "For the bulk of the set, IV is playing the X Series Soloist Arch Top SLAT8 MS, a multi-scale eight-string behemoth with EMG 909 active humbuckers. Billy notes that IV is a fan of longer-scale guitars, so the 26-28” scale length is a major factor in his use of the none-more-black beast, which is tuned down to double drop E (EAEADGBE) and strung up with 10-84 strings."
As a guitarist who has almost always opted to stay fairly traditional, i.e tuning to E, rarely using my 7 string, etc. Everything you just said sounded like sorcery! Hahaha. I love how much innovation there has been in guitar playing in the last decade or so. It's a pretty exciting time!
They were holding back 3 knockout punches with this Acsensionism and Euclid. I also love the apparition and rain even though they don't quite reach the heights of those 3
Euclid made me cry so hard when I listened to it. I think it took like a month of listening to Euclid before I could listen to it without crying. The whole album is just a masterpiece.
This song is on repeat for me. they keep getting better with each album 😍 Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song 🤘
I, as a true Worshipper deep into his lyrics are very thought out. I hear a touch of ever track composed into this song. Vessel is a genius in his Art!!! He is from London. I accept the mystery of unknown identity of Sleep Token. The train ride they have put us Worshipper's on is beyond words. Truly a phenomenal band!! Thank you for your reaction🫶Worship
Being a longtime slipknot fan, I got curious. Takes me back to middle school lol. I know who some of the members of sleep token are. But I'm not telling & don't use Google my friend. It's fun, the anonymity & just perfect music that is art.
Only Vessel and II are mentioned as musicians on all their albums. III & IV are only session touring musicians and not official members of the band......yet!
Please check out gods by sleep token next! Its from their first album sundowning and gives you a listen to how far they've come! Sleep tokens albums need to be listened to all the way, they all are such a journey, each song is different but ties into each other! Only found this band since January, and already they are my favourite band ever. The way sleep token is so imersive to their songs is just breathtaking!
If youre someone peeking through the windows of the house of metal, make sure to look through the window at Ne Obliviscaris. The classic is And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope live at Red Rocks, but Im a huge fan of Misericorde 1 and 2 from the new album.
good reaction as always. i prefer videos which provide additional information so i can learn something. regarding their identities: i don't care about persons, but i appreciate their music.
I don't know well I can trust the sources but I've heard that Vessel wasn't anyone famous before ST, he was just an indie singer songwriter. Most of the band members came from rather popular rock/metal bands. The drummer specifically.
From looking at live performances on YT, th ST guitarist uses an 8-stringer for many of the songs. Is that low-end contributing to that super chunk sound?
I don't understand why people (fans) are how they are. Instead of enjoying what they have in front of them, they must scrub the internet relentlessly to find out who someone is and put them in a box. You can relate this album to the first time you heard it and now that you've dissected it. -You've found out the band members identities. -You've collectively labeled and packed them away as a genre. Do you feel justified or does that feeling of warmth and wonder you had in the beginning emptier now? Some things you shouldn't aim to consume, like the apple of Eden. Its a drug that can't be satiated and you have to turn the curiosity off at some point and just enjoy where you are. Artists don't need proper names to make art. Music doesn't need a label/genre for you to enjoy it.
It's sad how the labels pigeon hole artists...rip em off like a band-aid and let the masses figure it out...I love MUSIC I don't care where/ who it comes from. 😊 personal opinion...I think the low sound is meant to be a whale...pagan... nature sounds. Captivating. Can't think of another word.
Sleep Token (all their members) are from London, England UK. By the way their identity has been revealed, but I won't spoil it for you and everyone else if you do wish not to know. But I'll just say if you really really wish to know all it takes is a simple Google search.
yes the band is from the UK, and vessel sings with a purposefully, very distinguished British accent...
I Knew it!!! 😝
London to be exact... when the bass player and guitar player speaks live they have a clear London accent. :)
Love how you started out quite analytical with some pausing after a couple of sections. But by partway through you were just along for the ride. It sure is an engaging song.

Couldn’t agree more. And it’s fairly apt when applied to Sleep Token too I suppose. Their work is fairly diverse.
This song is peak Sleep Token, just so many layers and feels. Great video mate
peak sleep token indeed, such a massive sound
Thanks James!

The whole albums lyrics are unworldly. Reminds me of Tool.

Thanks Brian!
Now, I have to decide which road to take.... I have to decide if I like the mystery or if that is overshadowed by my curiosity.

You are correct! I did in fact miss that. Well spotted!
And this whole album is a masterpiece
✨Masterpiece✨ And its getting better and better each listen🙏🏻
They are from the UK. Great breakdown and reaction!

How he sings is like someone that's just tired. Not physically but just emotionally wrung out.
This is a great description of his voice. I think that's why it sinks it's hooks into you when he sings, because you can hear the emotions so clearly in his tone. He has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard.
The growl I think is supposed to be a whale call, being a call back to this place will become your tomb and each song being a different sea creature

One of the only reactors i've seen that has noticed the in depth sound design on this track. Good ears mate.
Sound design is a perfect way to describe it because it is so cinematic! It's so ambient.

11:33 is a lion roaring sound, yes. At 12:14 the there's a whale sound as well :)
I kinda thought it was a toad croaking hahahaha. I could definitely see how it could be a lion though
Oh nice! I missed that one.
Yeah that growl was just too low and rumbly to be human. Even in a world where Alex Terrible exists 😆
I'm a little biased, been a long time fan, but this is one of the best albums I have ever heard!!!!

Yeah. I'm not sure I want to know who they are. Banksy is so much more interesting because the artist is a ghost.
Vessel is not American you are correct
This is not the 3rd release this is the last single of the new albumn
They sampled a lion and an orca for the animal sounds.
Nice!
The more and more i listen to it..its a croc or gator growl
So what you were calling the bass is the guitar. They use 8 strings on stuff like this and on some songs live a way down tuned 6 string baritone.

The band is from the UK. I know who there are but because they wish to be anonymous I will not reveal their names,
I don’t know why everybody says they don’t know who he is. All you have to do is Google it and will tell you.
I think maybe the mystique is part of the charm.
To be fair they are playing 8 strings in double drop E
Please do a reaction to Dimash's new song Omir? You know that distortion which you said was unfair? Well he's at it again!
