- An alleged porch pirate in Columbus, Ohio was caught on camera making a snatch-and-grab of a package the moment it was dropped in front of a home, leaving the delivery driver stunned.
The brazen theft was captured on a doorbell camera Monday afternoon, just seconds after a FedEx driver dropped off an Apple Watch that the homeowner had ordered.

Apple Watch can can be banned from registered services via serial number being reported to Apple. This makes the watch useless to use. If you purchase a watch from a private seller get the serial number from seller on the physical watch and register the serial number to apple. If the serial number comes back as stolen or banned... don't buy the watch.
There are ways to bypass this.

One of my favorite things about living in my 120 yr old house is my mail slot. It’s a pretty decent size and can fit a package that size. They open the brass door and it goes straight into my house. For bigger things they know to leave them behind the brick wall so you can’t see it from the sidewalk/street. I hate thieves!
Just had my $200 Amazon package stolen today from of all people the uber eats driver. Hate thieves too.

@@illbeyourstumbleine no only if I take her to small claims court. It’s a civil matter. I gave her the option to return my parcel and I won’t involve cops but she denied it. So I rang the police and gave them the footage.
Apparently, the porch pirate(s) must follow the delivery trucks to steal them within 10 seconds of delivery. Thank God for the door camera.

So if the homeowner is home why not wait 10 seconds for him to come to the door. If he doesn't come to the door in 20 seconds then you leave the package!. My 5-year-old daughter suggested this!.
they use to make you sign for EVERY SINGLE PACKAGE. or you had to go pick it up from the post office.

Many of us are on extremely strict time schedules. Extremely strict. We usually don’t know if a homeowner is home and can’t assume they are. And even if they are, most people take way more than 10 seconds to come to the door. It’s not common for people to steal packages after 20 seconds of leaving them, even in apartment complexes. It looks like he put the box down to take a picture of it, which is standard now for delivery companies. And sometimes you do have to put it down to keep the delivery out of reach of the customer in certain cases. Like if you have documentation for the customer to sign, or if you’re doing a delivery that includes alcohol you have to ensure the customer can’t just snatch it.

I wouldn't make any expensive purchase like that through mail. Not during this day and time. You can't even purchase a box of crayons without a chance of it disappearing after delivery.

By the time the older delivery guy could process what’s going on the thief was gone. And this is case of a thief following a delivery truck. Happening more and more. The thief and the delivery driver didn’t know what’s in the box. Not everything is a conspiracy

So by this logic all the porch pirates out there only steal when they know the package is valuable. There is also proof if that driver tried to stop the guy the company would have fired him.
An apple watch would be a stupid item to steal knowingly because it will be useless once reported stolen just like a phone nowadays.

fedex usually is the one that delivers apple products/ electronics in my experience so im assuming they go for them more? 🤷🏻♀️

@@OIllllOThieves don’t care. They’ll take the 50 bucks for parts. I’ve had older model phones stolen that probably only sold for 20. Yeti when I offered a reward of 50 for its return, no takers. So I had to spend $200 to get a new one. These thieves are disgusting. And when they are caught, the disgusting judges and DAs just let them back out on the street without bail.
So glad I live in the country, no neighbors, a long, long driveway up from the highway and dogs that the delivery drivers know and are known.
Why can’t packages be delivered to the home owner? Knock wait hand it over if they do t answer they need to pick it up from the depot.
Probably because that would add 30 seconds to 3 minutes to every stop and they are too busy for that these days? An option is to add "signature required" but that costs more so most people don't use it.

I wish there were better ways for customers to get their packages delivered to their properties without being left exposed out in the open for anyone to just grab and take off with them. A lot of times, people aren't even in their homes to receive those orders. So, what to do in order to keep this from happening again and again?

The driver should be fired ! He stepped back to give the thief un obstructed access to the package. If he thought that there was an emergency going on he could have picked it back up ,then stood back ! I dont think that the driver acted appropriately. He could have prevented the whole thing.
no buddy ur completely wrong the driver is a worker its not his policy to intervene, these delivery drivers have been recently being attacked over packages its simply not worth being injured or killed over.
How was the driver to know that the guy sprinting up to the house wasn't the owner themselves, back from a run? He only just turned around, with little to no time to react.
