Bushcraft Tarp Camp (2/5) - Carving a Two-Piece Bow Saw
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лип 2023
- This is the second episode of the Bushcraft Tarp Camping mini-series. Throughout this series I will be completing the setup of a semi-permanent camp that I can return to throughout the future to complete a variety of bushcraft trips and projects. In this episode I craft a simple two-piece bow saw that will allow me to begin working on more elaborate projects around camp.
Thank you to everyone who watches, I hope you all enjoy! - Розваги
My cat likes your videos I was going to go make food and she jumped up in my chair and started watching🤣🤣🤣
You have many skills..... but one of your greatest is your patience. Patience is what allows people to become skilled.
It's easy to be patient when you enjoy what you're doing. Thank you for your kind words. Happy trails!
ih here i was thibking it was practice but i guess i'm just 2svhhesvha
Another great example of someone who knows exactly what they’re doing. Fantastic bushcraft skills and really enjoying this mini series. As I said on the first episode, you have such a calming demeanour that oozes relaxation and it resonates all the way to London! Thanks for taking me along for the ride 👍🏼
Thank you for the kind words!!! I'm real happy you're enjoying this series. Happy trails!
love what you do ,,,,,, True Woodsman Cheers Mike
Thanks for sharing. The saw project was a learning experience for me.
That was a good looking meal you cooked too
Nice work on the saw... I really like it. Kind of makes a $150 folding saw a bit superfluous. I like that you show how to make your own gear. Thank you.
Did anyone else anticipate the blade slipping and cutting Riley’s hand cutting the slot? Love the bowsaw design, Dave from New Zealand 👋
Yea the footage definitely looks a little scary. There was very little downward pressure being applied, and I had my arms braced against my body so as not to make any exaggerated movements that would cause the saw blade to slip. With that being said wearing a glove or using something to cover my hand would've been a smart choice.
Thanks for watching. Happy trails!
Keep’m coming, enjoying
So relaxing to watch. He talks just the right amount.
nice dinner of sausage, onions, and potato's. if you have any leftovers great with some eggs and bread or tortias in the morning. awesome so far, ty
.
Thanks for watching!!
nice bannock, clever saw, awesome beardage! 👍🏼✌🏼🖖🏼
Thank you!
I love that you included some food at the end. I'd love to see you do some "fancy" camp cooking once in awhile.
Stay tuned!
This guy is a bad ass!
Wonderful. Still my #1 program.
Your variety of skills are truly amazing. Thank you.
Thank you for watching! Happy trails.
Brilliant videos I’m from the uk and even though we are thousands of miles apart, your language and techniques, culture is very much the same. You are a great communicator, and have a genuine friendly personality. Great videos and thank you, I’m learning a lot!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate the support. Happy trails my friend!
The majority of buschcraft content is typically just someone’s interpretation of something already done.
You always manage to amaze with original content and mesmerizing knife skill.
Thanks for sharing another great video!
Thank you for your kind words!
Formidable vídeo. Felicidades. Un saludo desde Barcelona ( Spain)
Excellent. Your skills are EXTRAORDINARY in concept tools and "camp comforts" my good sir. Once again my cat (she lays on me while we watch your videos together) are now mellowed out for the evening.😊 Looking forward to the next.👍
Very nice. Enjoy your summertime and take care of your wounds !
thanks for another great share! Seems like the bugs weren't so bad aye!
They come and go it seems. Around noon is when they are the worst. For the most part not too bad though.
Thanks for watching!
Great video series - looking forward to the next episode! Thank you for posting
Thank you for watching!
Watching this masterpiece from Jammu and kashmir ❤
great part 2 - thanks...relaxing watch
Great job Ryley 👍
Thank you for tuning in!
I like this guy because though his channel has become popular enough to not have to do so, he still chooses to associate with his viewers
Thank you for tuning in!
Hi from Scotland hope you're all safe and well my friends 🏴👍😉✌️🏴
Thank you for tuning in!!
Very cool.
Loving this series so far, Ryley!!
Thank you!
Great looking saw, bannock & jam…can’t go wrong 🤙🏼🍺
Thanks for watching my friend!
Was looking forward to this. Really enjoying watching you steam bend & looking forward to trying the technique myself!
Thank you for watching!
I was looking forward to this one.
Thanks for tuning in!
@@KuskBushcraft no problem
Great series
Glad you're enjoying! Happy trails.
Gotta love it when I enter YT and see a new video. Thanks man! Greetings from Paraguay!
Thanks for watching!!! Happy trails my friend!
My man just backk lesgo miss ur videos bro 🔥🔥👍🏼
Thanks for sharing this Ryley 🤙
Love the episode type series. Really allows for a story to unfold
Awesome video. New saw pattern to me. Thanks for taking the time to produce this vid. I enjoy your videography and bush skills.
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
This is a very interesting way of making a bow saw. Never seen it done this way before
I've seen old woodworking saws have similar designs. That's where I got the idea from. So far it's been working good!
Cant wait for ep.3
Gotta good feelin 'bout this series...Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers!
This series is just awesome. Your calmness and just the real sounds of you showing us what patience and skill can achieve with just the right amount of explanation.
I love it!!!
All the best ❤ to you from germany
Like all ways just awesome 😊👌
Thank you!
You make the saw building look easy. In contrast, I wonder how long it would take me to work it all out. Thank you so much for the videos!
Bushcraft shows are usually cooking shows, as the end demonstrates :D Good job dude, looking forward to the next episode.
My brother is moving to Canada. I hope to see him in your next video 😂
That looks so delicious! Thanks for sharing all of your skills. #alonehistory
Thank you for watching!
Love it.
Cool saw! Can't wait for the next one 🤠
very nice!
Another great video my friend. I like the way you bring Innovation into the project. I've bent a cedar limb for a Roycroft pack frame to give it somewhat of a Ledge for heavier loads.
Excellent idea! Thanks for watching.
Amazing knife skills man.
Thank you!
Awesome as usual!
Looking forward to seeing the next installment! I must say though, that fly was beginning to annoy me on your behalf. Unless its a pet, I guess 😀
🤣I kept swatting at my headphones everytime the dam thing buzzed by! Great audio.
Was funny when it got close to the onion it noped itself out of there 😂
Haha yes the flies have been very annoying this season. I try my best to keep them away from the microphone but they sure are persistent.
Thanks for watching!
Maybe you can do a video on making a bushcraft flyswatter 😂
@@thomasfletcher760 I think it noclipped into The Backrooms 😮😂
Of course what else than bannock :DD
¹
One of my favourites! Thanks for watching.
nice
I love you dude
A great series
The bannok looks great. But I've heard one must break bannok, cutting it is bad luck.
I don't believe in luck so I think I'll be ok. Thanks for watching!
@@KuskBushcraft I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
Nice project! Which knife have you been using? It is beautiful!
Thank you! The knife is a Helle Sigmund.
👍👍👍
First...😊
comment for the comment god!
Absolutely love that saw design. 8 months on, have you made those tweaks you spoke about and if so, what did you choose to change?
Be careful dusting off those branches you cut. You really don’t want splinters, that can really ruin a trip. You can bring a pair of decent gloves, which could help.
What do you think about working gloves for you?
My hands would probably get a lot less beat up but I find work gloves cumbersome. I can work a lot more effectively without gloves on.
That gash on your finger looks quite bad. Howd you get it? Hope your okay! Great video
It's actually a burn. Happened the first night I was out there. It looks way worse than it was. It didn't hurt at all but the blister opened up so it scabbed over.
Thanks for watching! Happy trails.
👌👌👍👍✌✌🙏🙏
How often do you clean your knife
I wipe it off every now and again. I can't say I've ever washed it with soap and water.
Also is this going to be a daily upload or simply when you get around to it?
Hoping to upload every Monday and Friday until the series is finished.
Would love to know your secret to living with biting insects under a tarp in the Canadian summer Riley. Here in eastern Manitoba in the Northern Boreal that isn’t happening … at least I haven’t figured it out yet!
Insect repellent and sleeping with my head tucked under my blanket. Perhaps not the greatest experience but certainly better than being eaten alive.
It would certainly work but get a little claustrophobic with stuff over my face! Will have to make a bushcraft head cage for this occasion!
One day I'm gonna grow a beard like Riley's. Maybe
Life's better when your face has a sweater!
Really enjoying this series. Are you going to be running any trap lines from this camp, or is this just bushcraft projects?
Right now there's no hunting or trapping seasons open. I may return to this camp for a few trips throughout the winter months and try to trap or hunt for food. Thanks for watching!
Hello Mr Kusk, I live in Sweden and I really appreciate your videos...👍
But I worry a little, watching the news, about the horrific wild fires in Canada.. 🥺
Are you affected by the fires where you live..? 😮
Hauk-Martin in Sweden
Thanks for your concern. The wildfires around my area have been highly suppressed due to all the rain we've gotten lately. Thanks for watching!
What precautions do you take against predators in these summer camps? (Mainly bears)
I store my food in a tree away from my camp. I do my best to keep my camp free of food scraps and odours. I also carry bear spray as a precaution just in case I ever had a negative encounter with any wildlife. So far throughout my travels in the backcountry I've never even come close to having to use bear spray.
Smart! I've seen a lot of people that are not very cautious about predators. I'm glad you are more careful
For your bow saw blade, do you carry one for green or dry wood?
may i ask how often you sharpen your knife because i have the same knife, and ive had it for about 2 months with alot of use should i sharpen now?
I strop my knife regularly.. usually once or twice a day. Actual sharpening only occurs when the edge is damaged and burrs, chips, or edge rolling has occured. If you find your knife isn't cutting as effectively as you'd like and you can't see or feel any chips/burrs... likely a quick stropping will bring the cutting edge back to it's former glory. Like I said, I strop quite often and my edge lasts a long time. Hope this helps! Thanks for tuning in. Happy trails!
Growing up and living in the city for all of my 53 years, I would not be comfortable out there without some type of defense against animals (mainly bears, mountain lions). What do you do to protect yourself, especially with you cooking that steak in episode 1? lol
This is a total newbie question, when carving out the bow saw, isn't it dangerous to cut toward yourself when you're shaping it? I'd be afraid the knife would slip or something and result in me accidentally stabbing or cutting myself
Ever worry about bugs? I used to open tarp camp until I got a horrible spider bite on my face and in my ear. Went necrotic and had to go to doctor. Now it’s fully enclosed bug nets in my tarp or over my hammock. 🕷🚫
Have u been to Sweden?
7:00 what is that noise to the right.
Have you considered honey butter with your bannock?
This dude sounds an awful lot like MadSeasonShow. Hmmmm
Uhmmmm, OK cute ......now why would I build that? I get the whole "bushcraft" skills hipster thing that's going on right now but again, why?
You can't run away to the woods and live, the government won't let you unless you buy the land, and then cough up for your yearly taxes so it's kind of moot.
Yes, UA-cam is chock full of "bushcraft" and "wilderness living" channels and it IS trendy as all hell right now but as we just stated above you can't do that anyway so you're NEVER going to go out and live off the land (at least not legally in Canada and the USA).
So other than generating content for your channel so you can make money, what's the point in this? You get around $3000 grand a month so is that it? Money? Because there is NO point in making that thing when you can buy a collapsible saw for $30 bucks .......
Thanks for sharing this Ryley 🤙
