I remember the first time I met this dude. I worked in the music industry for about 5 years and was invited to TLC's triple platinum party at Roseland in NYC. He was the only rapper I was happy to actually meet. Most rappers back then were only cool with the lady fans and treated the dudes like sh*t, not Hev tho, he was one of the coolest dudes one would ever meet.

@isis heggs He was a cool dude. He didn't treat me like I was an unsigned rapper handing him a demo tape!😂.
Even if I was, he probably would've took it and gave it a listen 🤷🏾‍♂️. Definitely a rarity, I was hurt when I heard he passed🙏🏾

RIP BIG HEAV 🙏 he was so underrated 😔 his delivery was unique and there will only be one Heavy D . He did not hide the fact he was just a little bigger than your average rapper at that time and he also made it cool for rappers like BIG PUN also Rip, FAT JOE, CHUB ROCK AND NOTORIOUS B.I.G RIP to be accepted for their flow and metaphorical lyrics instead of looking at their size im 50 now and still bump his music .

This is the Arena where Trouble T died at: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/11/Market_Square_Arena,_Indianapolis,_1988.jpg
He fell from the Exit Ramp right outside of the Entrance. This is the Spot he fell from:
      ballparks.smugmug.com/Market-Square-Arena-demolished-Indianapolis-Indiana/i-KSf9WFG/A
What happened is the Arena used old 1970 Building Codes for Coliseums. Which meant, that Retaining Walls were built at Shallow foots and metrics. Troy and everyone were actually leaving the Area walking the Exit Ramp horsing around, and none them realized that they were actually exiting 30 Feet up in the Air, so when the Roadie rolled a Trash Can at him as a joke, Troy jumped on that low Skyline Wall to avoid it and unfortunately lost his balance. He fell exactly 3 Stories down and hit his head right on the Intersection. An Ambulance Truck was parked RIGHT in front of them blocking the lane, so EMTs saw him land.

The black and white duality is consistently emphasized, in this video from 89. The light bearer, the worthless shepherd is an extremely cruel master, (low caps intended). REPENT!!!!! Amen, brother. You echo my sentiments to a tee. I don't even listen to mainstream radio, and I haven't for a very long time. I am not convinced that music "evolves." The so-called "best rappers of today" are 50 Cent, Soulja Boy, Waka Flocka Flame, etc. During the prime years of hip hop, we had Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, KRS One, LL Cool J, Heavy D, etc. NO comparison!

Being honest: I LOVED the last verse (wasn't on the album,) but the album version of the song is SO MUCH better than the video version. Whoever that was scratching at the end of the album version while the beat rode out made it SO FUNKY. This version of the song is just too busy for my tastes, but the visuals are cool and it's always fun to see Heavy & Trouble T-Roy in their element.

The album version is ultimately better, but the Audio sonics are Not there, like they should be.
It sounds more low-budget, but that's what works, plus it has a heavier reggae Baseline.
But hands down the remix definitely has the better singers.
The way the original singer sounds it's laughable, sound like she in somebody's bathroom. Plus she's not a good singer.

Heavy D made big dudes feel confident about themselves. I’m a big guy myself weighing in at about 280. He dressed well too. At a time when most rappers wore tracksuits and fat gold chains and some wore Starter jackets. He was into wearing suits. He not only made it cool to be a big guy but he made it cool for big guys to dress fly as well. Both him and Biggie made it cool for big men to dress fly. Plus he was one of many sex symbols in rap music at the time alongside LL Cool J and Big Daddy Kane. This was at a time when rap music was becoming more hardcore but some rappers wanted to be different. Btw I’m only 16 going on 17 years old and I listen to this type of music. RIP to both Heavy D and Trouble T-Roy

They had cell phones in the late 80's (from his rap lyrics), I don't remember seeing a cell phone till at least 1994 when my mom first got one (it was big as hell). I remember those big car phones that u use to have to unzip in a bag and plug into the cigarette lighter in the very early 90's.

Only the real rich ppl had them... big bricks or car phones... they didn't get more popular with the general public until they became more affordable around 1998...
