    Finally a good video about scooter riding technique. I've seen a lot of videos about motorcycle riding technique, but rarely about scooter. I know the basics are just same with typical motorcycle, but a video about scooter is kinda refreshing. I hope you still make videos about scooter riding in the future.

    Great !!! .... Not sure I'll be able to say all I want to here .... I'm 68 yrs old, after 50 yrs on large bikes, I bought a 2006 Burgman 400, loved it from day 1 :-) , and you are now confirming what I found out, I ride with both feet pushed firmly forward to connect solidly with the scoot for control. Nowadays all the large scooters have ABS, mine has linked brakes, left lever is 70% rear brake + 30% front brake, a dopey idea if you live in Brazil, it cost me a broken collar bone, when you have loose gravel, sand , rain on top of oily streets emergency braking can send you to the asphalt ! (an expensive learning curve). I anxiously await your slow turns, controlling the centrifugal clutch is tricky, might not be on a tight, brand new, scoot, but that's a luxury out of my range ! hahaha ....... I have just as big a grin riding the scoot as I did on my 1200/1000s etc.. :-)

    Hi man (or Sensei).. this is One of the best video about big scooters on the entire tube and still.. still everybody mentioning u-turns, and here you are talking about the knee in the most precise way, but nobody talks about fast narrow curves with big scooters.. can the knee help?.. I mean, everytime I end up in the situation where, in an unknown path, After a big acceleration I suddenly meet a blind and narrow (but still fast ) curve and I find myself in trouble.. I mean.. cornering fast, sometimes, expecially in big cities, safe your Life from the big SUV Who follows you at 5 meters distance, or Audi, BMW, ... fill with any fast car. Everytime I try to bend my scooter too much ( Kymco downtown 300i, not the best, but the Only I get), I feel the back weel losing grip. The best way I find for myself (but I know it's the opposite to right way) not to lose to much Speed, is getting into the curve straight, like a Rocket, then suddenly breaking with the scooter still straight, then bending rapidly and in the end rising the scooter quickly. Doing that, One time I met a spot of oil, and I quite died.. no real damages, but real close to a guardrail..
    May the knee help? Do I have to try a bit on some parking lots?...
    See ya...
    P.s. really nice job...

    I used to own a small Yamaha FZ motorcycle but had to sold it for university expenses. Than, I bought a Yamaha ZXR 125 scooter and totally can do a knee drag. But, due to the lightweight and springy suspension, I could not push it as I want it. Imagine having that BMW scooter, I bet I could out perform most of the beginner's bike around my vicinity. Man! I really want that scooter.

    Curious about your opinion. A well known Moto UA-camr made a recent video with beginner tips. One tip was to only squeeze the front brake with 2 fingers. He says if you pull with 4 fingers, that you'll lock up the brakes. I know the MSF teachers 4 fingers and learn proper progressive braking.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 роки тому +1

      It doesn't matter how many fingers you use, it only depends on how you use it. If you pull with 4 fingers, you won't lock the brakes up, that's incredibly inaccurate and misleading to say. You could lock up the brakes with 2 or 3 or 4, all depends on how, once again. The reason beginner courses teach all four fingers on the brakes is for many reasons. One is brand new riders don't have the experience to control the throttle roll off smoothly and squeeze the brakes with just two fingers. Having all four fingers roll off the throttle and all four go up to the brakes is more fundamental and easy for brand new riders to understand and practice before going into using less fingers.
      This is the reason why White Belts shouldn't be giving advice about riding techniques, they lack both knowledge and skill.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 роки тому +1

      ***one additional note, this is exactly why I don't watch anyone's videos. I'm a motorcycle instructor that teaches the beginner all the way up through the advanced level courses for Total Control, and have been since 2014. There's a lot of UA-camrs who ride motorcycles and give horrible "tips" and "advice" who shouldn't speak at all about things that are well beyond their experience and understanding.

    • @trailruntim
      @trailruntim 3 роки тому +1

      You expressed exactly what I was thinking. For the most part I like this other UA-camr's content. But as a new rider fresh from the basic riding course and having watched many of yours and Jerry Paladino's videos, this tip bothered me. Thanks for your thoughts.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 роки тому +1

      Anyone can make a video and give their opinions, not many people know what they're talking about...or they're just very limited to their White Belt level information, if that.

    Hey, thanks to your videos I've managed to get my knee down, after a lot of practise. But I'm having problems with the pad, since it only touches the upper tip of it instead of the entirety of it... Is that a body position problem? Lack of leaning? I would like to know it since it seems you are touching with the full pad instead of just a small spot.

    Ive been using the footpegs on my scooter and I find it very fun and easy to do lean turns however I am worried about my thin wheels slipping whilst turning, any advice?

    • @cebuguider
      @cebuguider 2 роки тому

      Its okay to do knee drag on scooter but be advise that scooter is made for city driving ans commute, nothing to sports oriented bikes. I do have scooter as well but mostly it depends on ourselves trusting our bike and the tires. You can do knee drag on thin tires but do it with caution as well. Here in Philippines my mates can knee drag 80/80/14 tires... thats a little bit thin tires.

    Will you please help me understand the importance of practicing a knee down? Showing my inexperience here but I see it as just a fun thing someone want to do. Good for them. Yet, what is the practical application when riding a motorcycle?

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 роки тому +1

      What’s the point of learning how to get your knee down?
      #1 because it’s fun! You don’t need any other reason than that but there are benefits.
      #2 Learning to do this provides a way to be comfortable being uncomfortable. It teaches you how to do something that’s challenging, which can be applied to any aspect of your life. Learning and practicing full body position (which may result in knee down) gives you a lot of confidence with yourself and your bike, it teaches you what your bike is capable of, you learn various levels of grip with your tires and current levels of traction, you’ll understand how leaning causes motorcycle to slow down, so you need to slightly increase throttle the more you lean in order to maintain your speed. This is a great way to practice your vision, staying relaxed, committing to a goal, building muscle memory-you’ll learn how the timing of when and how much you move your body makes a difference in how the bike handles. You’ll discover where your fear threshold is, where to place your weight, what’s comfortable for you, etc. If you never learn how to do this or even attempt it, you’ll never understand the difficulty and benefits it will provide. Go practice and see. Set up a 40-50ft diameter circle & get to it. Last, when you go to a track day (where this is the most relevant) you can focus more on other aspects of track riding since you’ve already spent time with body position.

    Question from a newbie like me. As I've watched from fort9 and you giving reaction from his vids, can counter lean be applied to scooters as well? From what i understand with counter lean is that it's pretty much useful on a tight corner or if u wanna save ur ass from potential danger.
