- In part 3 I show the track running and a little bit of how I did the wiring. Part 4 might be awhile away that’s gonna be the finished track with everything completed like scenery ,work bench ,Shelving , all the details.

In regards to the tyres - I race HO scale neo class and make my own grippy tyres. How I do it is - I stick a pair of foam tyres mounted on rims onto a drill on slow speed and apply a layer of silicone for installing car windscreens by 'Permatex' onto the tyre surface, once it's cured, it's perfect ! That's how they prepare the tyres for the neo magnet class in HO scale. The silicone comes in both black and clear. I find that the foam tyres tend to wheel-spin without the silicone.
We like crude! Nice job. Drawing up plans for large oval 6'×28'×4 lane & 2'×32' for drag strip on the back side of the track along wall. 8 sheets MDF. Keep up the great vids. Thanks.
Back in the early '60s when I was 12-13, I worked for four college guys who opened slot track store in their out-of-class time. The track was made of particle board, smooth, but traction was iffy, even with the silicon tires. What we did was use a syringe of STP oil additive and lay out about a six-inch bead on each side of the lane where the tire rode. I'd also lay a bead around the sponge tires on my car. It did not take long to spread the STP around the entire course. It was so tacky initially that when a car would cross the start line, it would just about stop in the STP. Eventually the track was very "sticky" and most any car had great traction regardless of tire construction. I repaired all the rental cars to earn track time. It kept me very busy after school. For schedule race events, they'd boost the voltage up to 18 VDC. No one ever complained about having to replace a roasted motor now and then because the cars were so fast.
Looking great! I was toying with the idea of using a layer of rhino lining between primer and final track color to represent the sheeps foot effect.
Interesting concept. Not sure if it would work with the smaller cars like the scx cars and the 1/43rd scale. They like to de slot with just the smallest of bumps .
Lol you need to motorize that tank! They're a blast on the track!

@@ONEFUNFONEdam now you got me thinking haha. It’s all metal tho heavy as heck but I actually have one that is a bit smaller and mostly plastic that might work.

beautiful but you have a big design-flaw in the track-shape. The reason they usually use the 8-shape as the most primitive track-shape is that that all cars travel the same distance. Your lanes are unequally in lenght.
The inside lane is shorter but the outside lane Carry’s a lot more speed so the is no advantage to a shorter lane length. The types of cars we run would not handle well on a figure 8 because the are built to turn left with offset chassis and all the weight being on the left. Bigger tires on the right and a number of other tricks learned over the years. Right now the current track record was set on the 3rd lane from the inside so that goes to show even more the inside shorter line has no advantage.

love the track how is the copper strips holding up to the tires sliding over them in the corners ?
Copper tape is holding up great . Some very small bubbles in the straights actually but nothing to affect performance. Definitely have thousands of laps on it already .

Spray glue your track it will be much better
We run silicone tires and Not a fan of glue.Don’t want grip we want it to Mimmic an old dirt track. We have actually put a little baby powder on it a few times to get more slide Plus for maintenance I need to climb and crawl on the track since it’s against 3 walls so I’d get sticky stuff all over me when I crawl on it.
@@TheSlotSpot The associations do not allow silicone tires, rubber only! We race on a national level and are not going to start messing with a complete new setup for silicone tires when they are illegal at the nationals and worlds. But to each his own. Enjoy your track! Thanks!
@@aislotcars9939 No hobby shop allows silicone. we have no interest in nationals this is a backyard club track mainly for me and my kid and friends to have fun on. when we go to the local hobby shop i have cars setup with foam tires to run there. Silicone is not new, guys have been making silicone over sponge tires since the 80's and actually almost every oval track I've run on only run silicone. Maybe its just a tri state thing but like i said i have no plans of running anywhere else.
