I still use Revlon lipsticks, and I like that they have some of their authentic vintage shades available. I wish more older brands do the same, I think a lot of people are interested in purchasing actual older colors/shades of cosmetic products. As a result of your videos, I have become very interested in using/exploring older cosmetic and skincare brands! Thanks Laura!
I've just turned 66 and my 1st job at the age of 11 was sitting in the large cosmetics department of our local pharmacy. So I've been a 1st hand witness of the evolution of Maybelline and Revlon from 1968 to 1980. Even though, the pharmacy catered to the wealthier in my town, the women bought Maybelline and Revlon over such brands as Coty,Helena Rubinstein, Cornsilk,Yardley, Almay and Love cosmetics. Revlon had better eyeshadow and the best blush whereas Maybelline lead in mascara and eyeliner. I still have my Momma's red cake Maybelline mascara!
Even though I can afford higher end cosmetics I just bought the new Revlon foundation and Maybelline's plumper lifter gloss. There products are tried and true!
My favorite Revlon lipstick is Cherries in the Snow.
I always seem to gravitate back to maybelline mascara I like it better than Dior
I have a few high end lipsticks (e.g., Nars) but Revlon by far beats them all.
I think Max Factor was out before Maybelline and Revlon. Smashbox was created by Max Factor's great grandsons. My Mom took me to Merle Norman for my first makeup. I've been most loyal to Lancome over the years. But I like NYX, Loreal lip sticks, from Revlon I've always purchased the Revlon red nail polish. You don't see many makeup commercials as you did in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Love watching your videos.
I came across a classic movie history blog that mentioned Max Factor was used for silent era black and white films. I don't remember the year it was officially released, though. 👍🏽
I was a teenager in the '80's and preferred Revlon to Maybelline. Supermodels were superstars, but I didn't buy my products based on them. Glamour and heavy makeup were the order of the day. Cosmopolitan magazine and Vogue were so beautiful then, unlike today.
i adore the retro advertising art💘
Me too!
Max Factor was a true loss. It’s a shame what happened there.
Very true
They’re still in European markets. I hope they decide to come back to the states.
I just bought a max factor cream foundation last year.
@@heartjewelry-hh1nzwas it good? I miss MF a lot
I miss their 2000 calorie mascara. Was a staple in my makeup bag when I was younger.
Revlon's "Pink In The Afternoon" is still one of my vintage lipsticks and I'm glad they still sell it.
Love that lipstick
Revlon lipsticks are great! My 2 favorite Revlon lipsticks are Certainly Red (1951) and Cherries In The Snow (1953). Certainly Red was one of Marilyn's Favorites! I too love classic colors that we can still buy today! Please keep making videos on the evolution of iconic makeup brands! You do such a great job at this!!
So happy you like these type of videos
I love cherries in the snow! It’s the main color I wear when I wear lipstick. It’s such a nice color on me tbh.
In the 90’s I was working at the NYC Revlon headquarters for Mr Pearlman the President of Revlon…it was exciting and exhausting.
There are a couple of drugstore brands that I buy from (Elf comes to mind) but I don’t very often anymore. The most important reason is because a lot of drugstore companies still aren’t cruelty free/vegan. That aside though, it’s very hard to go back to drugstore eyeshadows after you’ve experienced indie ones :)
Fascinating. I appreciate Revlon’s sentiment towards keeping their vintage lipstick shades available. Another brand’s history worth examining is Elizabeth Arden; an essential in the 20th century but seems to have lost much of its identity along the way.
Thanks for the suggestion
My first lipstick was Elizabeth Arden. It was called "Candlelight," a very pale pink. 1967 I believe. There's a full page ad for this shade with the date in the copy, beautiful ad, pastels and other colors that were perfect for the pale blonde blue eyed girl- like me.
I loved that brand before as you say, it disappeared.
My favorite Revlon lipstick/nail color was Cherries in the Snow.
And what a campaign too. It really looked into a woman's psyche.
Same! It’s my favorite lipstick that I own.
I still use drugstore makeup, even though I ( finally) have budget for more, I don't like to waste money. ❤❤❤
I buy Revlon lipstick exclusively, but that's because they don't include fragrance or flavoring. (Skin developed an intolerance.) Favorite shades of Revlon lipstick right now are 1- Raisin Rage, 2- Goldpearl Plum, and 3- Wine with Everything. The Revlon Colorstay 24 hr eyeliner is the only brand that doesn't migrate while wearing it.
I use Maybelline mascara (Full n' Soft.) It's interesting that they were the first mascara brand. I used to only buy Loreal mascara but they either changed something or my skin said, nope, no more.
I love maybelline mascara
I would love to hear more about Clinique.
Yes! Those white coats!😊
I still use Maybelline, mostly their mascaras but I also love their lipsticks and those lifter glosses. Back in the day I used to wear the Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick and nail polish! Yes, things have changed so much. As a teenager I used to love flipping through magazines looking at the beauty adds! I kind of miss that!
I miss old Beauty Industry so much. I love how you give a sweeping overview and a deep dive at once. I'd luv to hear more of your personal experience, talking about growing up in makeup. Also, do you write the script? ❤
Thank you! And yes I write the script
Have you done a video on Elizabeth Arden yet?
I do miss Revlon; not Maybelline though (due something my constantly told me about them). But I went cruelty free around 7 years ago (my catch phrase on the subject is “I don’t want anyone or any animal to suffer so that I can have my favorite mascara”. I’m not venomous about it though - individual choices are well respected. ANYWAY - I truly loved most every Revlon product I tried. Maybe someday they’ll go cruelty free. 🤷♀️
ELF is a great affordable company especially for foundations and primers. Although I'm not sure how old the company is
I think it’s pretty new. I like their products too
Yes , eyes , lips and face 😜took me forever to put that together. I thought its like seven or so years , e.l.f. has been around about 19 years 🤯 (I googled it )
As usual, well-researched, well-written and very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I started wearing revlon and maybelline in junior high. Now I'm 40 and continue to reach for the classic Revlon and Maybelline bullet lipsticks. Loved this walk down memory lane ❤ would love to see deep dives into 90s brands no longer around (Jane makeup, Bonne Bell)
I am an avid collector and seller of the vintage makeup lines. Nothing streamlines women’s historical inroads in cultural progression and advancements more than their cosmetics.
That’s so cool you collect
I am looking for Revlon Chiliest Rose eyeshadow and Red Lustre blush from the 70s and Covergirl liquid blush in a glass bottle from the same time period.
Hi there!
I ❤❤❤! Revlon's "Pink in the Afternoon"!!
Still like Maybelline mascara and Revlon nail polish.
My favorite eyeshadow is Maybelline’s single called Seashell. It is the perfect color for my skin tone (light and cool)to balance out the darkness of my aging eyelids. I use it as a base color for every eye look and on its own for a no makeup look. I hope they never stop making it!! Revlon lipsticks are so good but finding the right shade can be hard without testers. I like mauvy night and giggles, which is no longer made. I loved when they did that set of vintage shades.
I will have to check out that eyeshadow
If you’re near a JCPenney, they sell Revlon and have testers so you can try before buying
Loved this video 🎉🎉
I am a Revlon gal all the way! I try Maybelline every now and then but always go back to Revlon (and L’Oreal). I find Revlon’s bullet lipstick very luxurious, quality product - packaging, and product. My colours currently are: Pink In the Afternoon, Afterglow, Kiss Me Coral, Untold Stories, Pick Me Up, Crushed Rubies. Thx for the video. 👍
Ive just discovered Revlon " Peach Me" and im loving it. Nice and Dewy, and natural
Oh I need to try that one
I love Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks. I have worn them for at least 40 years. Favorite colors: Pink in the Afternoon, Silver City Pink (very 1960's), Blushing Mauve, Champagne on Ice and Soft silver Red. Bare it All and Gentlemen Prefer Pink are nice too.
Maybelline was bought out by L'Oréal. Revlon became private after being bought by another company.
I don't buy from either as they are not cruelty free🙄 I prefer ELF from the drugstore or handmade indie companies for eyeshadow palettes💜
Interesting video I love Revlon I still use Fire and ice perfume and Revlon lipsticks 💄
Silver City Pink Lipstick
Revlon lipstick 💄 Golden Grape…love it after it gets blotted down. Very nice
I am 33 and I only use Revlon Creme Lipsticks. I am very particular about what I like and they just work for me. I wear the nude-pink shades such as Flushed, Secret Club and Primrose and I love the pinkish red classic Cherries in the Snow and orange-red Fire & Ice lipstick.
I love them too
MSN youbhave some.good videos , very educational ❤❤
L’Oréal discontinued their main lipstick line and I almost cried! I stalked eBay to buy several Saucy Mauve and Toasted Almond lipsticks. I’m really sad 😞
Saucy Mauve!! That's mine!!❤
My favorite Revlon lipstick is super lustrous stormy pink
Cherries in the snow
I still use revlon and Maybelline and covergirl but I do buy other brands too I don't really have a favorite
Maybeline started in Chicago. The building is still there, in an area named Roger's Park on the North Side. The founder was gay as well. Of course, not all innovators in women's cosmetics were/are LBGT. But I never knew that.
Maybelline and revlon are classic brands and spaples. I could never go without a maybelline or revlon product
Great information thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank You so much for all the interesting Beauty topics you share👄🌷💄💄💄
You are so welcome!
Awesome content!
From revlon I like the shade Mink
I bought Kirkland mascara at Costco and it is very good.
When did you buy it
Ho sempre amato il marchio Revlon...anche la palette x eyeshadow e' valida e anche la matita x occhi....
I love your blouse! where did you get it?
I love Revlon lipstick and I still buy them.
Both good products.
I love Maybelline Great lash mascara.
Great video Laura! Please do Courtney Love’s fav beauty products. I know she’s into Clinique bar soap and fracas
Revlon lipsticks are my favorite, I have many of them too.
Whst about Cover Girl and Max Factor too?
This is why I love Mabaline
I honestly love revlon lipstick
I wish I could still purchase Max Factor here in the USA.😢 PS - is Dahlias in the Attic officially dead?
No I just need help with editing so I haven’t been able to post
I like Maybelline products 😊
I love Revlon, been buying since the 80's. Prefer the old Maybelline slogan. I buy Indie and classic.
Revlon foundation are so good, beautiful and an unbeatable finish on the skin like no other . Followed of course by maybelline. And its not about prize, is quality and finish on the skin 😉
I made their lipsticks and nail enamels for 25
years
I swear by Revlon lipsticks and Maybelline mascara.
Fashion Fair and Max Factor were my first two. then coming of age Grandma would replace my drug store with high in because she said there bad for my skin. Lol 😆 now of days I use a mix Elf to Maybelline L'Oreal Urban decay
I'm angry with Revlon for going non-cruelty free once they hit China's shelves. I miss the Shine-Free line from Maybelline, and wish they, too, could go cruelty-free.
That’s true they should be cruelty free
Nope I don’t buy for those companies specially what they do
Lol! What about ancient Persian, Phoenix, Mesopotamia, and Asia Minor? Your knowledge of history is limited in Egypt, even cosmetics were the worst
No Maybelline, Revlon, LOREAL!! , I only buy cruelty free. In this day and age there is no reason to torture and kill animals. 😿✖🐶🖱🖱
Loved Mary Quant long ago. Bebe.
Love listening to Laura Jane Sunday 🩷🎥. Matineé ~ Always Relaxing & learn alot ~ my favorite era Vintage 🩷
Thank you!
