A custom system is well worth it from a privacy and probably security standpoint.

I haven’t shown it in the videos yet, but Jarvis doesn’t use google for STT anymore. It’s all on device so he doesn’t need internet access to work like the echos. Anything it hears stays on its system and is forgotten once I turn it off.
@@S-Technology I heard there was a new local machine learning based STT system from the mycroft team too... Also speech synthesizers that sound a bit more natural. Might be worth looking into.
