This was the exact thing I was looking for. Opened mine up and it was the same as yours. Loosened up both sides of the bracket, zip tied it together and reassembled. Works perfectly now. Thanks for the video.

My lock stopped working this weekend and I used your video as a reference. I fixed my gear housing by resetting them in the house and then I closed the housing by wrapping it in electrical tape. Works like new again! Thanks again.

Thank you for this video. We had the exact same problem, but one year put of warranty. Fixed it by drilling holes in the metal box and zip tied through the holes and around the split housing. Saved us $86.

I contacted Chamberlain just today about the exact same problem. They did request the serial number but otherwise were great about offering to send a replacement. So refreshing these days when a company stands behind their product, even if the product is designed poorly like this plastic motor.

I have three of these, two have failed, and I repaired them. I used stainless steel safety wire in three places on the housing, to prevent the gear housing from breaking open from the force of opening and closing. I applied the fix to the third, and it will not break open. The bolt housing should have been made of metal.

Thanks for this video. Spot on. Clearly a design flaw with the plastic weld as noted by others. Needs a redesign...I have three and expect them all to fail eventually. Liftmaster/Chamberlain sent a new one, no questions asked, so they know they have an issue. I used two zip ties to hold it together which is less messy and faster than glue or tapping new screws. Looks solid and works fine. This repair takes about half hour max with zip ties and a philips screwdriver all that's needed. The replacement is now my spare!

Interesting. I called and was told that this part is an accessory and is only warranted for one year.

Fixed mine with 3 screws and a metal clamp. Good thing I keep the tiny screws from old stuff before tossing it out. Used a 3/32 drill bit. Drilled 3 holes along the edge just behind the gear box. 3 tiny screws fit close to perfect. One clamp in front. Can send a picture if interested. Screws came from a blutooth speaker that quit working.

Had this issue, took 3 plastic zip ties and wrapped around the body of the actuator, works great now.

I had to replace the Absolute Encoder III assembly which includes the 41A6408 Travel Module. I called Chamberlain, told them the diagnosis per the manual, and no questions asked they mailed me a new part. Door works again. I'm pleased with the service after the sale.

Found the same issue on mine. Just whipped out the soldering iron and ran it along the edges to melt them together. Got it done pretty quick.

I used zip ties like the previous comment. Got a new one coming but it works for the time being. Thank you.

Obviously a quality control problem with the manufacture of the housing carrier for the mechanism. Mine split just like the one in the video. The plastic seam which is factory glued cannot take the torque over time and cracks. The housing need to be made of metal rather than plastic. Liftmaster/Chamberlain is very good at replacing this device for free, as I received a new one 4 days after I called their support line. No questions asked. They must know the problem exists in the field.
Here's how to fix the broken housing: two steel hose clamps to fit around the housing on each end will do the trick. Just file a shallow groove in the plastic seam edge where the clamp straps rest to lessen any interference with the box when reassembled. No glue needed. Fixed for less than a buck. Now I have a backup in an emergency.

I have this unit and have experienced bad blown capacitors in the wall control panel (causing random openings and closings of the garage door) and faulty locking mechanisms(preventing access to the garage). The builder grade "crap" opener that came with the house was still working at 21 years old when it was replaced, just noisy. This is my first chamberlain and had originally bought this due to the security and reliability, but only lasted 1.5 years before failures. I hope they improve their quality control.

I built a automatic deadbolt on my garage door opener about 30 years ago, but I used a magnetic plunger and it never failed.

I would love to hear more about how you did that. I have been considering doing the same and have the electronic dead bolt but am grappling with control,trigger,timing....

Had the same issue, didn’t find this video until after I fixed it though. I just pulled out the assembly and electric tape wrapped it. Solid. Not coming apart

This separating of that part is a known issue.
It's nice if Chamberlain will replace, no questions asked.
But it's good for people to know that the old one can be fixed by just re-seating the gears, closing up the 2 halves and putting zip ties at each end of it.
Just place the zip ties' bulky part, towards the side where the won't touch anything when closing the case.

I'm currently locked out of my garage; probably due to this issue. I'll forward your video to Chamberlain (Liftmaster) and explain this is my issue as well.
On a side note; I'm a little surprised that you didn't inspect and reinforce the new replacement automatic lock for the same issue before installing. I have a feeling this is a common occurrence?

    V. Helpful video. Liftmaster do not recommend doubling up on the door locks although a great idea. Doing so can fry the mother board without modification to same (may negate warranty?). You could install a spare unit on the other track, and just lock it manually when you go on holiday. Contacting Liftmaster by phone or email proved v. helpful. Although not included in this video, to make the 3/4" hole in the track, a step drill is a v.good investment of the correct size(s). These are available very cheaply from major d.i.y. stores. My installer in Calgary, Canada, ran out of drill battery power, and did a horrible job with an electric abrasive disc grinder tool to make a square hole. He saw that I had a full workshop, but didn't ask if he could borrow my electric drill and step bit. His boss came to fix a door balance problem, saw the mess, had never heard of a step drill bit, but said he would purchase some for his installers. Will try another company in the future. Cheers.

LOL It IS a power door lock (as noted by others). Our first one is 6+ years old and works fine. Installed a new opener on another door in December '18. and it is not opening now - just what 3 months old and it broke. I've put in a request with Liftmaster - - -

Mine did the exact same thing. Barely under 2 years old. In my case, there are no cracks or nothing inside but it still won't retract all the time. Have to talk to Chamberlain to see if they can send me a replacement. How did you work and take video at the same time? Anyways, thanks for the video.

I wont bother with these things. I just put a chisel across in my garage door rail when I leave home and have also cut the cord extension for the top lever that opens the garage door.
