UDT is so good, it's ahead of its time. May take a while for people to realize the extra value it brings to their games. I find it's the only way if you want to go the way of miniatures. Thanks for the amazing contribution to the game, Professor.
I'm trying to adapt the UDT to the SW RPG's abstract zoned combat. I think just one extra zone before the edge and it should work great! So Close and short range in the center, medium where you have ranged, then the extra zone would be long range.
@@rynowatcher Innovations are borne of constraints. Not everyone has a giant dining room table or custom job to play on. You also seemed to miss the "broadway set" analogy. Prof DMs games might (seem) to center around urban/dungeon/lair, but there's nothing here to prevent customizing for other terrain/environment types.
This makes you feel like you are in the room where it happens, the room where it happens. Thanks for finally dropping this video. I have one more udt to make and this is my next craft project.
I made a screen that instead of the town front from the previous video, had window panels that I would slide pieces of card into. I could then print any background onto the cards and slot them in (ie city cards for when the players are in the city, dungeon cards then they're in a dungeon, and a Rick Astley card for then the players rolled a 1). All I need is to pre-print settings on cards to bring with me.
I love that you have such varied content on your channel. DM tips, current events, painting / set creation, game reviews.... You are the total package.
This was one of the best vids. Great Deathbringer humor…”I did”…😂; funny running commentary; cool idea for a GM screen; the bonus material was great; Thanks Professor! But, as one Dad with grown up girls to another “Dad, you’re the best. I love you!” was worth the price of admission! Woot!
Professor, I absolutely love what you do here! I feel like our hobby has just gotten a whole lot better because of the players and the content creators we have today. Some people say the hobby was a lot better back in the day but I don't believe that! We have so many creative people now. Tons of new players. Anyways I could go on but you get the idea. Freaking awesome! ❤🎲
It was great meeting Professor DM and Baron at MC and I enjoyed listening to the roundtable discussion Saturday afternoon. Thank you for your kind words about MC--I know the con staff appreciates it!
Dam prof. I've always been against minis and terrain for the issue of storage, cost and waste but you make me want to reconsider that with how easy, cheap and efficient this looks. I Love all dungeoncraft videos!
I really like the idea of adding a bit of flair to the utilitarian UDT, just to help set the mood. You could really go nuts with variations on this...a line of trees for the wilderness, a ship for ocean encounters... Ooh, and on the back, you could slap a random encounter table for the appropriate environment...
My DM screen is pieces of cereal box clamped to the sides of my laptop, but you do you. : ) Sweet of you to call out Jeremy at Black Magic Craft. LOLed at Deathbringer's "outro!" : )
I'm so glad you posted right now! I was really bored and couldn't find anything to watch - then suddenly the notification! Bam! This is one I've been looking forwards to for a while. Will edit my thoughts in after :) EDIT: After watching I am excited to see that Tomb of Horrors face! Also love the budget friendly materials you use - great for a cheapo like myself! Neat idea with the magnets, I hadn't considered that but swapping out decor would work great to give different vibes to different dungeons! Awesome video as always and tell Deathbringer his singing chops are just as good as his axe-swinging chops! :P
Oh my .. I just thought about VTT's - it would be so easy to make an UDT as a terrain piece, and not worry about spending hours/days making a mapped out location. Just use the UDT, add in a few items as needed for atmosphere.
I use a 27" IPS screen laid flat on the table in my sessions. Running Foundry VTT, with a module where I can control what the players see, and it always snaps to the perfect size when loading a new screen so it's all 1" squares. Pairing a hybrid solution with UDT would be brilliant.
Congratulations on your placement at the Mythicon crafting competition! Thank you for being so friendly and approachable. I hope to see you there again in 2025. Take care.
My old DM screens were a lot of work, to put together, but it ended up being VERY worth it, especially for the old AD&D. I photocopied each page in the Player's and DM guides that had charts on them. I then carefully cut each chart out along with it's relevant information. I organized charts that went logically with other charts and taped them to pages together. Then I photocopied those pages. The resulting pages all had nothing but charts on them that logically went together and were grouped together by type/function, etc... I then got page protectors. Stuck two pages in each, so that it would be nice and double sided. And I bought two small, cheap binders and stuck the pages in them. I would stand the two binders up like a DM screen and the side facing me had all the charts together in those page protectors. Because of that, I almost never had to grab the Player's Manual of DM Guide to start flipping through it, hunting for stuff. Every chart from those books was right there, organized at my fingertips. And the funny thing is, my organization with those charts and tables was WAY BETTER, and MORE LOGICALLY laid out than they were in the books. It seems like those original books were written like a stream of consciousness, rather than being organized logically. The pages are old, and yellowed, but I STILL use those two binders as a DM screen or at least reference, when I break out the old AD&D and BXCM games.
Probably the first time I've ever gotten a notification for a non clickbait vid. Love the idea of this. It changes the atmosphere of the game to really be focused on that small bit of light where the party is, giving a real sense of great unknown and horror as to what is waiting in the darkness and makes the world feel all the bigger and all the scarier. 10/10
i was thinking about crafting something extremely similar for my games after i finished my current project. it's funny how ideas come to people at the same time. thanks for the guide!
Excellent video, AS USUAL! It's great to see you doing crafting... you're great at it and it's much better than the scandal stuff! This concept you have, here, is phenomenal. I'm definitely going to promote it on my channel when I launch... because it's a VERY useful tool for the community. Thanks for developing it. I'm definitely going to make them, myself... maybe even display them in videos
Granny grating will shed paint like a snake sheds skin. To counter the problem, wash it in soapy water, let it dry 100%, and give it a spray prime or spray varnish. Varnish again as a top coat after painting.
Absolutely loved this!! I don't even play much in person, but I'll make one of these FOR SURE to display minis and special dice I've collected over the years. Thanks, Professor!
This is an AWESOME idea that I'm running with but rather than a fixed tile/Screen that's a pain to store and a one background option (IE city, dungeon etc) I'm using foam floor matting (like for kids rooms) and panels with magnets. New locale? Switch out panels. In my case it will be 7 panels (7cm wide and 10-12cm high), that magnet onto the base holder/each other. Already kicked it off. Hopefully will finish in a month with multiple genres of panels... Must admit, that floor/base display idea has me stumped for now. Will have to come up with a changeable floor/base.
Aaaaah! I'm geeking out! I've been exited for this, and you really delivered. I made my first UDT attempt a few months ago, and I love it. The players were a little bewildered at first, but eventually they caught on. 🙂I really liked the previous DM screen, but this is really next level. Thank you, Professor!
Great video, very instructive and ... well, Deathbringer. I'm excited to see how you and your players handle Tomb of Horrors! P.S.: "I had some cancer last year ..." As if to follow the statement with, "I didn't much care for it, 0 stars." 😅 My father was taken by cancer last February, but was accepted by God long ago. He'd appreciate your verbology. I'm glad you're on this end pf your fight, mate.
Oh, I wish the "not to split the party" method worked just as well in my urban Cthulhu games as it does in dungeon crawlers! Unfortunately, monsters roaming around the streets free and ready to rip apart any investigators naive enough to split up typically don't happen until the finale, if at all. But I guess that's the price one has to pay for less combat-focused games. Anyway, this is a cool-looking screen, great work again, Professor! You almost convinced me to make my own. As for why many screens tend to be 11 inches or higher - I'm guessing this is to hide the back of a laptop? I have to admit I completely switched to keeping my GM notes in a digital format for ease of use, but it looks rather anticlimactic ;). That's actually the only reason why I would need one, having no real need for terrain.
Love the idea of magnets. There's so much you can do with that. Also looking forward to Deathbringer's album of Broadway hits. I bet his performances literally bring down the house.
I love all Dungeon Craft videos! Perhaps it is just me, but I am totally confused and believe I would not be able to make that DM screen. I need a more step by step showing and less step by step telling. I have always learned visually, which is why reading from books and listening to lectures did not do it for me. Wow, that crafting con competition. Everyone did an amazing job in the 4 hours given. I really liked the "free hugs" sign.
Absolutely stunning! I love seeing all of the things you've created, and as someone who has zero skills, I feel as though you make it accessible. Hope to meet you at PAXU in a two weeks.
Oooooh, I might just make this my winter vacation project to make such a DM screen! I might get some clear card sleeves to glue to the back and then slot in some DM aides into them (like the improvised damage table or something) to make it customizable. Or maybe glue some magnets to the back!
Great video! I'm going to make a few Star Wars versions of this. Thanks for the inspiration - your craft videos are my favorites (even if they don't get the ragebait clicks!)
Excellent video! Unfortunately, there is heresy afoot! Professor Runehammer is teaching the new HEX UDT! This may lead to a split at Dungeon University as students must decide to choose to either a circle or a hex for their ultimate dungeon games! 😂 Soon gangs of students will break into song and dance routines as they pick sides .
If (when) you become dissatisfied with granny grating, try drywall repair tape - finer mesh, far easier to work with and paint. Mythicon looked great, thats the kind of smaller, less 'commercial' con I love. And Deathbringer singing Les Mis...was actually kinda emotional.
I got my Deathbringer t-shirt and wore it our last D&D session. We defeated an adult black dragon! I think it went so well for us because of the shirt. Thanks, Professor!
Deathbringer being a fan of musicals was not on my bingo card.
But I'm here for it! 🎶😂
UDT is so good, it's ahead of its time. May take a while for people to realize the extra value it brings to their games. I find it's the only way if you want to go the way of miniatures. Thanks for the amazing contribution to the game, Professor.
Spread the word!
I do not see why you have terrain in the only metric is distance. Only fighting in big, empty rooms seems very restrictive.
UDT is getting very popular out this way. I've just made my 14th for sale this weekend.
Game changer, literally.
I'm trying to adapt the UDT to the SW RPG's abstract zoned combat. I think just one extra zone before the edge and it should work great! So Close and short range in the center, medium where you have ranged, then the extra zone would be long range.

CooL!
Liking for the Hamilton reference

All I need is to pre-print settings on cards to bring with me.
Cool!
That’s an awesome idea! Especially with the dreaded Rick card.
You made a Rick roll for D&D? Epic!
I love this kinds of videos. They put the "craft" in Dungeoncraft
I love that you have such varied content on your channel. DM tips, current events, painting / set creation, game reviews.... You are the total package.
❤ Love this!!! I originally found Dungeon Craft when searching for DIY terrain ideas. I'm here for all you got, but this is the cream for my crop.
Thank you!
Deathbringer singing Les Mis is better than him singing Hamilton.
Thank you!
Agreed. Hamilton is god-awful garbage. hehe... I think we can beg to differ in terms of taste.
Woot!

Players outside all of the circles are likely to be eaten by a grue.
I'm dying at the Deathbringer songs. Fantastic and hilarious
What fantastic bonus content! Love hearing about these smaller, closer-knit cons

me too !
Thanks for watching!
Great to see some crafting again. I loved the city version as well :-) I'd definitely include a dice tower if I was still plaing face-2-face.
That's a great idea!
Loved the end! So happy you're well professor!

Great video, PDM! I love the dungeon DM screen and that was some awesome crafting at Mythicon.
Love these types of videos. Also I think we need more Death bringer reciting musicals.
Congratulations on your placement at the Mythicon crafting competition! Thank you for being so friendly and approachable. I hope to see you there again in 2025. Take care.
Holy smokes...all those examples were in four hours? Very impressive!
Fantastic! Back to the origins. Your crafting and painting videos, ttrpg tips and campaign stories are the best and my favorite!
I love all Dungeon Craft videos!

My family blames you for me spending hours in my craft room
My family blames you for me HAVING a craft room, and a game room
@@pimc172 Well La De Da. Must be nice having a craft room AND a game room :) Actually does sound nice :)
Deathbringer doing Les Mis. Sometimes you don't know you need something until you get it
Love the crafting "tag" at the end of the video! Wonderful work!

Lol. That's because it performed well in the 1st hour. That's the key.
This is the content I signed up for. Fantastic job, as always Professor.
i was thinking about crafting something extremely similar for my games after i finished my current project. it's funny how ideas come to people at the same time. thanks for the guide!
That was an awesome video! Much better than a griping about Wizards video. Please make more of these!
On the way!
Awesome content as always and prayers on your recovery. Deathbringer being a fan of musical numbers wasn't what I expected.
please, more Death Bringer covers!
les miserables - Castle on a Cloud
Nice job Professor! Thanks for the class. We really need these kind of crafting videos, from time to time!

I don’t really use much in the way of terrain or paint minis, but I did enjoy watching this. Thanks for sharing this, and it looks awesome!
This is cool I did your UDT not to long ago I might just try this thanks for sharing ✌️
Thank you, Professor DM.
Thank YOU!
Awesome. I laughed, I cried, it was the total package. And a musical to boot. Cheers!
Thank you, always great to see the smiles of the community!
"all you ever do is make crafting videos what happened to the D&D drama videos"
I enjoy your content greatly many thanks
Made me laugh out loud.
I'm designing one that's a blend of this and the classic screen. I need to fold my screen so It can fit in an already loaded backpack.
These crafting videos are great, thank you for taking the time to do them!

I love Deathbringer's solos. It really ties the whole video together so nicely!
Cool video. And nice bonus content. I like to see other game conventions and see how they are alike and different than my own local game con.
Love all of your content but especially love your crafting videos
Thank you!
Bonus video was awesome. Can't believe how skilled you guys are
nice to see the family
Thank you.
I enjoyed going to Mythic Con for the first time

That’s just amazing. Fantastic work, professor. (By the way, I think you uploaded the patreon exclusive on UA-cam by mistake)

I've been scratching at the neck waiting on my next craft video fix.
Huge fan of your craft videos, they are always practical and look amazing.
Great video, prof! You're crafting videos are always really inspiring.

I love your thoughts on TTRPG in general but I especially love these crafting videos
Thank you!
Great video Dungeon Craft 🎉
Great to see the crafting video, especially the bonus content at the end at the competition crafting tables!
👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎
Glad you enjoyed it.
If (when) you become dissatisfied with granny grating, try drywall repair tape - finer mesh, far easier to work with and paint. Mythicon looked great, thats the kind of smaller, less 'commercial' con I love.
And Deathbringer singing Les Mis...was actually kinda emotional.
Drywall repair tape....brilliant!
These are my favorite type of Dungeon Craft videos!
I can vouch for episode 9. It's fun to watch old school dungeon craft videos.
I got my Deathbringer t-shirt and wore it our last D&D session. We defeated an adult black dragon! I think it went so well for us because of the shirt. Thanks, Professor!
Thank YOU for buying it!
I love all Dungeon Craft videos. This adds to another piece to my ultimate GM toolkit!!!!
Awesome job, PDM! Congratulations!
Amazing! Stoked to try this with Lego since I use it for dungeon dressing already
Always happy to get a new crafting video.
I LOVE ALL Dungeon Craft videos! What will we hear Deathbringer singing next? Cats? Rent?
Cunning!
Good design based on experience.
Waiting for the Deathbringer movie! (...and merchandise!)
