He seems like a great guy, so humble despite being a phenomenal musician.
Cody's right hand is basically Bobby Vega, and his left hand is totally Jaco Pastorius.
Cody is one of THE best bass players coming up today! We had the honor of hanging with him during a show in Wichita Falls while performing with the Eric Gales Band-phenomenal player and very gifted!! Norm, thanks for sharing this video!🙏🏻❤️🎧
have you seen the NAAM clip of them
Nothing is sadder than an unrecognized musician.
i mean, i feel like all the working pros like cody, they're just happy to be getting good gigs like being part of the VF jams/zildian live house band for example, playing awesome music, working with legends, and having a comfortable life. we recognize them
He tours internationally, I saw him with Eric Gales here in Yorkshire, I'll be a fan for life
@Thomas Grey he was just making the point that "an unrecognized musician" isnt the saddest thing in the world
This young man has his fecal matter together for sure.
It actually sounds like he is choosing his notes and selecting them creatively. Honestly, I don't think Wooten does that. I recognize Wooten's monumental ability and skill but I really can't say that I enjoy listening to him play. He is all over the place so fast. No real art or soul to his playing. This Cody kid here is an artist/musician.
@@craigdamage 2 different styles of playing is all
@@theTrend7 not just "style" I didn't mean to come to this comment thread to bash Wooten. Whenever I hear Wooten play it sounds like he is constantly interrupting himself. He is just a technical mess of too many notes going in too many directions. Wooten plays like he is deliberately trying to intimidate bass players. This guy plays like he wants to make good interesting music.
@@craigdamage Your comment sounds very odd to me, 'cze I think of Victor Wooten as a very melodic player, and while he is a virtuoso, it never sounds like he is trying to play complex stuff, it just feels really natural and like he is choosing the most beautiful sounds he can. I mean, I think that the most amazing thing about his technique isn't his speed, but how fluid and groovy everything sounds. A lot of "virtuosos" can end up sounding really stilted and like they are pushing themselves, which sucks particularly hard for bassists, 'cze typically you want grooves to feel relaxed and natural, not tense and stilted, but I never feel like Victor does that, everything he plays is perfectly internalized.
@@pedrohenriquepietracci3061 honestly, I admit I haven't listened to Wooten in quite awhile now.
One of my all time favorite bass players, very technical riffs with ease and plays with feelings. Very talented for sure
What a great bassist!! And a great video documenting an up and coming musician
Absolutely phenomenal musicianship.love it!
Absolutely wonderful.great musician. Thank you for sharing.
Killin' it Cody - keep on rockin' 👍👌
I own the exact same Alembic. What a great player !
Does it do well with gritty tone?
Stunning, Outstanding, Fantastic and all the other adjectives that describe Greatness!! This young man is going to leave a large mark on whatever genre or genres he decides to play in!! Well Done Mr. Wright, I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more of you,....soon I hope!!

Love his pocket!
You're simply amazing Cody!!!! Rise and shine man. Thanks for blowing my mind. ;-)
Amazing!
I saw him play guitar and he is great.
now that's an outstanding bass player !!
Wow, Norm you were friends with Jaco - amazing! Would love to hear some Jaco stories - maybe a video in that? Cody is great!
You buy that right?
NORM IS DELUSIONAL PERIOD.
Fabulous stuff. My old mate Cody, doing the business. Loving the bass too!
Groove master!
I love the phrasing
This guy and his tiny half moon can dig a beat. Rock on!!!
Very cool
I like the way you work it
Man, listen to that high-pitched hum, sure sound like a fiiiiine bass.
He sings the notes he plays. Reminds me of Theo Katzman
Who needs rules in life 😁
That guys good.
wow
Go Cody go🍺🍺
The Alembic Epic is my favorite model. It is the most useful of all the models, for ME, maybe not for others.
I was reading some comments and I was wondering why there was a lengthy one in all caps, then I thought to myself it’s the man the myth, CARLOS GUITARLOS. And sure enough it was he.
Most bassists would get a nose bleed playing that far up the neck! Good stuff
FAbulous Cody and so sweet of Norman featuring you... im going to try and get Ricks attention for him to see this one i know he will get a KICK outta it Mr. Master Turner is one of my Teachers of Luthiery, expertise repair specialist in electronics etc Roberto-Venn, Namaste

Never knew Norm was close with Jaco, wow!
I love an ebony frettboard
Monster.
Man what a grove! that’s sick as fuck
Great bass playing.... awesome!!!
What's this guy doing on Thursdays? Somebody ask him...
Got to check the shielding on the control cavity. Can here his phone
Really nice tone he is getting. Reminescent of Byron Miller. I would never guess it's a type of tone that alembic bass would produce.
This guy is a bad ass for sure, funky as two day old shit. No doubt he is now one of Norms good best friends. Lol
i didn’t realise he was singing along with his playing
more alembic instruments please!
I watched this 15 minutes ago and my foot is still tapping.

Did Seasick Steve take part in the Blues Cruise?
WHAT is that buzzing sound in the effects hookups?
everytime i watch this something new happens
Cody's good peeps. He and his pals tore up the Bass bash 2020 at Namm before all the bad virus crazy happened. I think he's got a new album coming soon so yall check out his FB and keep up!!!
He's Jaco and Cliff Burton (with a pick) in my opinion
is it thumpin Thursday?
All i’m thinking during him playing: Don’t scratch the bass with your neckless!!!
Weather report ? Hurricane Cody is on the way ;P Jacotastic boy :D
The old man just doesn't let him speak.
There is only one on sale @ reverb . com. For those who might be interested. It is in an excellent state. How do i know ? It’s mine 😊
Just damn, he smokes
Way to go Cody Dynamite Video !
He plays like a guitar player
Daniel Irvine that’s why he plays Zon
Because he plays both.
Terrific stuff, highly talented player with an enviable Bass guitar- whoa!. But after a while, wearisome. I'm only saying what perhaps many probably aren't game to put up on YT because they'll get dumped on from a great height. My preference is hearing someone ALSO play some really "boring" bottom end stuff like James out of The Funk Brothers or solid support like Benny Rietveld from Santana.
Well said. I wonder if all "fast" guitar pickers can also play bass like this.
This is my first time hearing him and he sounds good.
I kinda do a similar thing with heavy stuff, but I need a better looper pedal... aaaand I’m not quite that talented. Ha!
This was pretty sick
LOOKING FORWARD TO READING CARLOS COMMENT

I POSTED A COMMENT
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
This kid was born with a pick in his hands and acrylic finger nails.
Finally a bass player who actually plays with a pick and people say that bass players are not supposed to play with a pick
Bass players to play with a pick lemmy kilmister, Jason Newsted, cliff William's Me, Cody Wright (guy in vid).
Ethan Sastre have you checked out bobby vega?
Clay Gober is also one. He does hybrid picking
@@Nipsu_uspiN I have yes... *1 year later*
Cody is really great.
A young Jean Jacques Burnel :-)
From another bass player that was sweet playing!
What is so special in Alembic basses?
Garcia Plays an Alembic
Talented bass player. Definitely a guitar player playing bass.
Sar i want to akembic epic5 strings bass guiter..pls help me..from sri lanka..pls help
Thumpin Friday.
Jaco? He never used a plectrum
I see an Alembic, I think John Paul Jones. Teeth rattling stuff there.
Alembic Epic Bass. They are great.
Why am I listening to a dot matrix printer in the background?
looks kinda like
Jaco
how do 13 people give this a thumbs down?! I mean I get it if it's not your thing, but to actually vote it down, I don't get that.
Cody is a beast, in all senses of a good bassist. I mean Erik picked him out of all the bassist at his disposal. As well as being a humble cat, but to say he’s filling “The immortal Jaco P.’s” shoes??? Come on??? No hating again I’d never put him down as a good player, however do I think he is equivalent to Jaco or Stanley, or anybody who 40 years from now us bassist still trying to figure out how he’s doing the things he does? I dig that Norm gave him those props, but Norm you sat next to Jaco and your a real player you don’t really really think he’s on Jacos. Level do you? Really???
Correct. Cody is trying to emulate Jaco, however he will never be on the master’s level.
Dwamn
I have said it before and I'll say it again Joe Dart is without question the closest we are going to have in our lifetime to a Jaco Pastorius, as far as breaking new ground and shanking things up. Not to take anything away from this Cody kid hes doing his thing and thats cool and you see it all the time ya cant a find a gig playing guitar and so ya pick up a bass and try your luck at that but to my ears I'm just not hearing him doing anything that would wanna make me put him in the same league as top tier bassist and certainly not Jaco.
Most decent musicians don't like to be praised kinda gets on our nerves keeps us from being better
What’s that high pitched noise in there? Ruining the video for me, also all Alembic basses sound so damn thin almost lifeless, that said Cody is an awesome player, always enjoy watching him play. His bass sounds a million times better
GTFOOH! Funk as hell!
Very bad Ace good baseline I can't play bass but Jocko didn't use a pic OMG 😱
Need more cowbell.
Good but not close to Jaco. There can be only one.
Norm can you try to get Jason Newsted or anyone else from Metallica?
Beautiful with a four string! Try a six or seven string. Is everyone stuck on a four string bass?!?
I begin to think that you guys are keeping Frank out intentionally. That is not something we appreciate :P
frank is shit
Why is he shit? What do you follow the crowd.
Actually most of the stuff on this channel is boring. Frank's the best thing on this channel.
OK...now do it without the neck wrap string mute.
Might want to rewatch the video, friend
I thought this was supposed to be a bass video! Sounds like a guitar video! No bottom or bass! Must be the pick thing!
Good , but doesn’t even compare to Jaco.
How necessary do you think that comparison was?
Jaco was top tier but the best ever absolutely not
That tone is marbles on glass bright scratchy and terrible. He can play but God that sounds awful.
Why the stupid beanie? Not Jaco. Also is he taking heroin? I hope not since Eric is finally clean.
Bitter lemons
