Well, now we have a great infrastructure to broadcast it. Why not just make it stay on few cities? Athens is a great choice for one of a permanent host.

Issue in my opinion is that there's so many sports and its become so massive that most people won't go. Majority of people are only interested in a handful of sports and you know that prices in the city around olympic times are going through the roof as they try to milk all the tourists. That alone stops a lot of people going. Then you have the reputation of places like Paris and LA which work both for and against tourism. You can't run a shithole city and expect everyone to blindly come and see it because you have the Olympics.

I grew up in LA and frequented the Mcdonalds next to the olympic coliseum because it was the one closest to me. They had an insane ronald mcdonald and friends mural of them in the olympics, it was the craziest most lavish thing i've ever seen in a mcdonalds. The mcdonalds was unfortunately remodeled in approximately 2010 to make it more modern and I dont know what happened to the mural.

I feel like one of the biggest issues in modern society is overworking and then in relation people and countries throwing money in a giant hole and sending a couple nukes after it. So much money that could be put to good use for SO many people who need it and it goes to waste completely and THEN you have to pay more in taxes to make up for those losses...

Homeless, drugs, violence, and a genral run-down environment are all too common if you stray too far off the beaten path.
It's a sad reality as they both had potential but were ruined, in fact, Paris used to be a beautiful place. I even lived there once.

London 2012 was great and actually turned athlete village into homes and kept majority of facilities for public use which was amazing. Whole country got together and was a party vibe the entire summer so I think we'd be down to host it regularly as we have all the facilities anyway + good transport + good support (every venue sold out when some in Rio and other were empty)

I absolutely love the Olympics as a huge sports fan. The whole reason it exists the way it is now is so the whole world can come together to compete. Doing it in the same country is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while as most major countries and cities should be able to host the games themselves. It's a global event, restricting it to one country/city would make the games less anticipated. Some countries dread hosting them for the costs but the people want it so bad as it provides a legacy for their country and who doesn't want to host the Olympics? 206 countries are competing in Paris this year, wouldn't it be boring if athletes from 206 countries competed in the same country every 4 years? The Olympics has travelled around the world in the last 2 decades, in Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London, Rio, Tokyo, and now Paris. The build-up to the games with the Olympic torch and the formalities makes it all the better, the torch travelling the globe till it reaches the host city.

So they spiced it up with wilder crowds, music, huge contracts, and a different format.
