Crazy how often dogs that “aren’t good for grooming” just have one or two things they’re really scared of and all it takes is a little patience and kindness
While this is true, many groomers don't have the luxury to take as much time as she can. They don't have all of us backing them so they can take hard cases on and take their time. They have to get dogs in and out to pay their bills. BUT sometimes she can find their issues and that's all it takes for other groomers to go 'OH. ok. Now that I know..."
@@xPaPaDx eh. It's the reality of the situation. Difficult dogs take time to sort out and if it's not profitable, you can't pay your bills no matter how much you love animals.

Very nice that the new owners are willing to take on little Courage's socialization and nervousness issues. He can have a happy life. Sweet little guy.
Then take away the Fur that he has for protection. Because they want him to look a certain way. Even though the groomer discouraged them from doing it... Yeah great people...
@DIARRHEA-PANIC Ummmm...what?? It's perfectly fine to have short hair on dogs. Yorkie's typically only have long hair if they're showdogs. My sister had a yorkie whose parents were showdogs, but he wasn't. The shorter hair is easier to take care of since yorkie's like to roll around in dirt and leaves.
@DIARRHEA-PANIC Dogs dont think like that. Some dogs also have one very short coat (for example a boxer, a minpin) where the fur is less than an inch long and provides no protection whatsoever. Some of those types of dogs still will react badly if you bathe or groom them. Dogs dont react badly cuz they are getting their fur trimmed. They are reacting because they are in a strange situation they dont understand with a strange human touching various parts of their body they might not be used to having handled and loud devices like clippers and dryers making lots of noise and odd sensations for them.

"Inherited" her from my mom's gentleman friend. He and his son were just to busy to keep up with her grooming and when she came to me her coat was a horror. Once she was groomed professionally (the groomer was able to safe enough of her coat to give her a short "puppy" cut) it grew out into a glorious flowing coat. Daily brushing and combing is all it took to keep it neat. She loved her baths and would prance around like a little fashion model showing off how pretty we told she was. Never liked Yorkie's until I had her.
Coming from Yorkshire, I'm pleased to see one of our county terriers in your grooming parlour. Courage was pretty good (for a Yorkie!). They have an in-built programme which means they go through life convinced that everyone else is dead scared of them. My cousin had a Yorkie ("Whiskey") which saw a GSD on my cousin's caravan park & thought "I'm having a piece of that". Whiskey shot across the land & fastened his teeth onto the GSD's throat & wouldn't let go. The GSD just looked at his owner as much as to say "What is it? Please get it off me..." Incidentally, we in Yorkshire have the smallest terrier (Yorkie) and the largest (the Airedale) to represent us. Love the videos Vanessa, you are so patient and caring with all your clients.
Oh lawd we had Yorkies my whole life and all of them, bar one, have been like this about a bath. The current one actually likes grooming. And snuggles. Not convinced she knows she is a Yorkie
Yeah, we had one kinda like that too. He didn’t really mind the bath and actually enjoyed the blow dryer, but he absolutely hated his claws being clipped. Only time he ever bit anyone in earnest was when I was holding him while the groomer did his paws and he was mouthing my hand in anxiety, then crunched down pretty deep on the heel of my thumb. He was a pretty good boy, though. Wasn’t the brightest dog in the world, but he had a lot of personality and was kind of a freak of nature. If yorkies were human, he’d have been Andre the Giant. Weird for a pedigree pure blood yorkie. The rest of his litter and parents were all around 7-8 pounds, but he topped the scales around 15 without an ounce of fat on him. XD

I loved Courage (the show) so damn much. The random horror tropes in cartoon format, the twinpeak-ish ambiance… it was a weird mix between Scooby-Doo, Oggy & the Cockroaches and… something else. Love your work, you have a fan here in Paris btw :)
I was a bit older when I watched Courage the Cowardly Dog and I loved it, it was all about him overcoming this fears to protect his owners. What a great message.
Vanessa: This is the worst home cut. Me: Girl, you should have seen the monstrosities I created on my poor little powderpuff Chinese crested when his matting just couldn't wait for his next grooming appointment. 😂 Courage is the most adorable little gremlin, and his temperament reminds me so much of my little Apollo (also a rescue). 10/10, would pet Courage if he wanted it. ❤
@@lindazacharias3909 mine would tolerate it when he was younger, but his last couple of years he was very uncooperative with the brush. I'm sure the pandemic closure of his salon didn't help that, either.
He was just so very happy when it was all over. For a little one who had been in rescue kennels for a very long time, he did so well and was incredibly well behaved. Have to agree with you that the lion cut looks a bit strange on a yorkie, but he looked scrumptious when he was finished. 💖😘
It was rather obvious he growled out of fear. And I'd go as far as to say it seemed he liked Vanessa! Something about her confidence in what she was doing & how she handled him & the way she comforted him.💖 He is really sweet & adorable!!! So glad he was rescued & adopted!
Courage is an adorable little man, and he deserves extra treatos for being so brave, during what was likely an unfamiliar and scary experience. Kudos to you, Vanessa, for always being patient and respectful to the animals you groom.
Courage does the quickest tapdancing I've ever seen! 😂 He's an amazing boi to have lived through what he has. Someone in Jamaica cared enough about him to shelter him and do their best, and I'm glad he has a forever home now. ❤ I hope no one misunderstands his fearfulness for aggressiveness. 🫂 For Vanessa for putting out this video for his future groomers.
Our rescue we adopted in August was also named Courage the Cowardly Dog. But we changed his name to Nigel. He is a chocolate mini poodle and a dandy little gentleman. So Nigel just fit better. 😅😅
Is it just me or are the small dogs way more snappy than the big dogs? Yorkshire terror is a very appropriate name! Talk about 100 pounds of attitude stuffed into a 10 pound package! 😂
It's because they are aware to be small, fragile and not dangerous. Being aggressive and biting are the only defenses they can rely on. A big dog knows it can stop Vanessa by just sitting down and doesn't need to snap
They typically feel the need to defend themselves because of their size. Knowing something could seriously hurt you or kill you will typically have you on edge. A lot of the time that leads to reactivity with dogs and sometimes even fear aggression. You also need to remember that most terriers are small and bred to be yappy, feisty killers. When a terrier like the yorkie “acts up”, people say they’re terrible rat dogs. Most of the time the dog is doing what its breed has been bred to do. That’s not to say that there aren’t nuisance dogs but training isn’t seen as important for little dogs.
@@thotdonalds8853 thank you 😂 I’m a little dog lover, dog groomer and terriers just happen to be my favorite breed group. These dogs are shit starters because they’ve been bred to be and people don’t know that before they go buy one. Then most don’t train them and a non trained terrier is a terror.
Why anyone would want that beautiful silky hair cut on a Yorkie I just don't get. He's a beautiful tiny package of courage indeed & I'm happy Vanessa took him for a compassionate grooming after seeing his reaction to an obvious painful attempt to clip his feet & nails that caused him fear & trauma & all THAT after having been a street dog in Jamaica for God's sake to a shelter dog & finally to a Canadian home! What resilience this little spitfire has! Bless his tiny lion heart! Let his bum be covered in that beautiful silky hair again! 👑
I LOVE how he was named after THE Courage XDD My family and I loved that cartoon. Truly nothing like it, and had all the weirdness I grew up with and was kinda missing when the show first began airing. It really came on at the right time. Lion cut actually looks pretty cute on him :3 I like it!
"Yor-riers" rule! Mine was a rescue as well, quite rare. He was found on the street but no one came to the shelter. He was good for his bath, loved the blow dryer, especially in winter, and held still pretty well when I did his face. Home haircut, haha. But he screamed bloody murder when I clipped his nails. He never growled at me, or bit, just licked my hands. Luckily his nails wore down like Courage's since we walked and hiked miles together. He would bound through huge snowdrifts like a deer. He passed at 16 with respiratory arrest. I rescued a Cairn Terrier Chi cross now. Someone must have given Courage a haircut on his body at some point. Yorkie hair never stops growing, just like human hair, so he would've been much longer. They shed very little with no undercoat, but give them jackets in winter. 😊
I hope the majority of pet groomers have your patience and understanding. Our Pals & Buddies appreciate this. (they have told me so) Since I'm not really down with _convention_ I thought his "doo" looked real swell! (especially the ears) Well done, Ms. Barber and cudos to Mr. Don Courage! \m/
My yorkie chihuahua mix (rescue dog) is just like Courage for his bath. He hates nail trims but absolutely melts with the clippers. I "groom" him myself ...We are getting better every time.
I LOVE that he is called Courage. I immediately knew from what show he was named and smiled cause it reminded me of just how freaky 90s kids shows were. Take "Cow & Chicken", or "I R baboon" for example, completely nuts! But I loved 'em all
Poor little soul. Thank goodness for you. Who knows what that little man has been through. Thanks for your patience and placid personality, he got a groom.❤❤❤👵🏴🌹🌹🌹
I've had 2 yorkers over the years. Neither of them had little dog yaps. Strangers at the door thought I had a bigger dogs. Both had been rescued when they were 5. Both had come from elderly ladies who treated them as babies. The last one died 1 month before his 18th birthday. My first one was 14 when she died and had been diagnosed with a heart mummer when I got her at 5 years. She turned out to be a fantastic dog, once she was allowed to behave like any normal sized dog. Generally the boy became a decent dog, but still with some behaviour problems.
You did a great job with him - I'm sure your calmness helped him so much! I had a silky terrier mix for 15 years, and for every minute of those 15 years, she hated both nail trims and loud outside noises. She's been gone for many years now, and I miss her still. She was the smartest dog I've ever known!
I have a soft spot for Yorkies, so I really enjoyed seeing Courage today. ❤ They're known to easily develop weak trachea issues, so I get a bit concerned about the impact to their trachea if they happen to pull a lot during grooming, like Courage does. But I'm not sure if you have a belly band/something else small enough to help to counteract all of that pulling! 😂 Thank you so much for working with him and for helping him get used to the grooming process!! 🤗 I think if he continues to work with patient groomers like you, he will keep improving. Thank you again. ❤

@@AmyC28713 Yes I know, I've been watching her videos for years. 🙂 I was careful to word my sentences in a way that did not insult her professionalism at all. I watch her for a reason - she is one of the best groomers on YT that I have ever seen, and she thoughtfully educates the public about different dog breeds. If you'll read my comments again, I think you'll find that I was recognizing and musing over the fact that there may be nothing she can do in order to protect the dog from pulling during the grooming process. I have personal experience working with Yorkies, and this is a known health issue with them. And in my opinion, all of us are allowed to point out potential issues in order to try to come up with solutions for any dogs who may need special consideration. And honestly, it would have been nice if you would have verified with me what I meant before choosing to judge me so harshly and incorrectly.

My husband is always quoting “You stupid dog; you make me look bad!”
@@njmaryannez I was just always wondering why he had such a big hole in his one tooth. 😆
His little stampy feet.🤣 Small dogs with huge character.
I know it's because of how anxious he was so it's unfortunate- but the way he was wiggling and tippy tappying around really made him look like he was in fast forward 😂
I'm so glad Vanessa is around to help out these dogs with fear of grooming!! good luck in the future Courage
Courage is the most adorable little gremlin, and his temperament reminds me so much of my little Apollo (also a rescue). 10/10, would pet Courage if he wanted it. ❤
i was thinking she’d cry if she saw what my mom and sister do to our maltipoo 😂
My CCPP mats like crazy if I don't brush him every single day. He doesn't much care for brushing but he puts up with it.
@@lindazacharias3909 mine would tolerate it when he was younger, but his last couple of years he was very uncooperative with the brush. I'm sure the pandemic closure of his salon didn't help that, either.
Courage is just adorable.
What a sweet little tyke - and what a wonderful job you did handling him!
I am so glad you kept the ears long. He looked so cute at 13:06.
Courage is adorable.😊 He did very well for his spa day. Happy he has a loving forever home.
His face at the end.......he was just asking for cuddles ! You have a great way with dogs .❤❤
Our rescue we adopted in August was also named Courage the Cowardly Dog. But we changed his name to Nigel. He is a chocolate mini poodle and a dandy little gentleman. So Nigel just fit better. 😅😅
He’s so cute with his little gizmo ears and tippy tap paws. ❤
Is it just me or are the small dogs way more snappy than the big dogs? Yorkshire terror is a very appropriate name! Talk about 100 pounds of attitude stuffed into a 10 pound package! 😂
It's the Napoleon Complex. Witness dogs barking at each other in your town centre. The smaller the dog, the most noise & commotion!
@@tegueggu100/100 comment 👏
@@thotdonalds8853 thank you 😂
I’m a little dog lover, dog groomer and terriers just happen to be my favorite breed group.
He is a good boy. Just scared. Needs time to assimilate in his new home. You did a fantastic job with him. Your calm demeanor works magic ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️
I think her voice and the way she talks to the dogs really helps.
Little fella did great! Impressive growl and i was expecting him to be a lot more yappy.
Courage the angry dog 😂😂😂 All jokes aside so nice to see a rescue treated with empathy and compassion
He is a precious dog. I agree with you, the lion cut is not the most becoming to him! You do such a good job with all of these little darlings.
The tappy dancing is adorable :)
After I put this on both of my dogs passed out, hahahaha. I think they find your voice and encouragement soothing.
He did look adorable at the end and I admired his tiny dog feistiness. 💚💚
Poor baby was shaking so bad. Thank you sweet lady for helping this cutie pie. ❤
He looked so cute all fluffy from the drier. He really did well under your care.
Love Courage. He is a doll. Good luck to his new owner. I hope you succeed at everything you want and need to turn Courage into the best Yorkie EVER!!
We in United Kingdom called Yorkshire Terrier's Ankle biters, They are cute dogs. another lovely video.
Ahh yes the ol ankle biters
I absolutely ADORE his ears. He's so cute!
it just takes a bit of “courage” for him to warm up to you😅
I want a Yorkie so bad!! He is soo cute!! I love you and thank you for sharing
Your absolutely amazing
Imagine Courage if he were 100 lbs? That's one scary growl for such a little cutie 😂
Courage needs a little more courage. He'll get better
Omgoodness Courage!!!! You are the teeniest little lion I’ve ever seen….adorable!! ❤
*hears all the details about Terrier breeds, looks at my own Jack Russel Terror* Can confirm.
You are Amazing.
God Bless You.
Thank you so much for working with him and for helping him get used to the grooming process!! 🤗 I think if he continues to work with patient groomers like you, he will keep improving. Thank you again. ❤
This isn't her first video. Or first year. She has been a long seasoned very VERY caring compassionate professional. Probably should check more of her videos out before the "I dont know if you have X Y or Z" - she has her own brand.
I'm sorry, but you have completely misunderstood and misread my comments. And honestly, it would have been nice if you would have verified with me what I meant before choosing to judge me so harshly and incorrectly.
@@Jen7867I saw no harm in your comment, just voicing your concerns. Nothing wrong with that. But she was holding courage a lot throughout to stop her pulling so I think she’s aware of your concerns. Don’t worry for speaking up though, some people are just very defensive.
she does have a belly band, But I don't know if it would be small enough for a dog that small.
@@Jen7867your original comment wasn't offensive. It was thoughtfully worded
Your gentle methods were enough to bring out his sweet side ❤You did such a good job at handling his fear aggression. Thanks for the video!
Omg Courage just looks like my silky terrier that I adopt from shelter 8 years ago!! He is fine with 90% of grooming but he HATES his face blow dried!! During covid we learned how to groom his hair. We groom him ourselves now :D
When Vanessa was done, that was a very happy boy. Nice to see such a satisfying groom with such a nervous little guy. She has a very calming but assertive touch. Completely necessary in these cases. Great video.
Courage is so cute even if his tippy happy feet were more for anxiety I imagine when he gets excited those feet start tippy tapping too. he did so well but truly that growl of his is a little scary even for a yorkie 😂 hopefully in the future he finds grooming less scary
He is adorable. Congratulations to the new owners. I hope ya'll & this fur-baby have a long & happy life together.
Courage looks like he’s wearing a Halloween costume with the lion cut 😂. Such a cutie!
He looked so silky after his blow dry and the lion cut turned out super cute!! ♡
Courage: "If I'm gonna get wet... I'm gonna have FUN!"😡
It looked like after that first growl he like apologizes. Poor little guy.
Dogs have grooming fear because their humans don’t have them groomed enough as puppies. I have a biweekly appointment with my groomer. We never get too dirty or too long and my dogs are happy to see my groomer and get pampered. Humans need to do better.
He’s so cute! Glad you gave him a second chance ❤
I'd say he has a bit of papillon or something thrown into the mix - love those ears!
Those are regular yorkie ears
No, he is a biewer york. It's like some kind of different type of a breed.
@@johndou3940
Ah yes, could be, good point.
Normal yorkie ears.
@@johndou3940 the only physical difference between a biewer yorkie is and a normal Yorkie is that biewers are tri-color and not docked. He looks mixed, but almost definitely isn't a biewer.
What sweet little guy. Despite all he's been through he's not a bad dog. Just unsure of his world and he did do quite well. I appreciate your patience and understanding. Blessings to you. ❤
Courage's ears can get a better WIFI signal than any of us do.😎
One of my yorkies just passed away on October 3rd. There all sweet and love being groomed.
Yes, courage the cowardly dog was a wierd show but it has nothing on Ren & Stimpy 😂
courage the cowardly dog was my favorite cartoon growing up, and today, i am 30 now, it is still one of my favorites
