  • Hello! Today I'm going to go over how much the 2021 2.7L F-150 can tow. This will cover the regular cab, super cab, crew cab, all 2x4 and 4x4 variants, and whether or not the payload package is added onto the vehicle.
Hopefully this video will help you make an informed decision on whether or not the 2021 2.7L F-150 is right for you! It was quite time consuming to get all of these numbers down, so if you learned something here, please subscribe!
Depending on your guys' feedback on this video, we might also do videos just like this one of all the other engine configurations!

Very well articulated, and great job of memorization. There is one place I disagree with you on as someone who has driven all of these motors. That is due to the 2.7 absolutely moping the floor with the 5.0 liter in practical use. The coyote has higher advertised max HP and torque numbers, but the 2.7 has a higher average HP across the rev range, and significantly higher torque, especially on a dyno. It will out pace an equivalent 5.0 in the 0-60, 1/8th and 1/4 mile, with a near equivalent trap speed. While towing, the 2.7 super low end even typically beats the 3.5 0-30mph (making it more comparable to the gen 1 3.5 with its smaller turbos and quicker spool times). It also has the highest coolant capacity in it's main loop of all F-150 engines, and the largest oil filter surface area. It's also built like a tank, minus the oil pump belt that the 5.0 shares. The powerboost is king when it comes to power off the line and down the stretch, but it tends to suffer from system overheat when towing heavy. I would say the two best towing motors are the 2.7 and 3.5. On a practical level, no one will really be towing more than 9,000lbs with a half ton anyway, regardless of design capacity. This is all down to tow vehicle mass and stability limits from wheelbase. I'm my opinion, the Ranger performs better as a platform for towing than the F-150 class for class, and can actually tow what it says on the tin comfortably. Beyond 9,000, you're looking at an F-250.

If you get a rental F150 from any of the big car rental companies they all have the 3.3 V6 engine with 6 speed. And I've rented one twice with that engine and it's pretty slow and underwhelming. I own a 2.7 and it's no comparison. The 3.3 engine is really just a fleet option that provides cost savings at sale and maintenance also makes the truck much slower to keep people out of trouble. Municipality and government work trucks will also be equipped with that engine for the same reason. I'm pretty sure you have to special order to get that engine because just like you said i've never seen one at a dealership.

Boomers buy the 3.3 V6 too.

I test drove one with the 3.3, it was loaded up with a lot of options for an XL. I found it to be ample but we couldn't make a deal, they wanted to low ball my trade. I ended up with a 2.7 with STX package and it's great. Power difference is night and day.

The 2.7 can beat a damn Hellcat, so it's definitely faster than the 3.5L! lol!

Awesome video! Quick question I kept rewinding but still had a hard time understanding. I want to get a 2.7 f150 with a 5.5 bed and 4wd which ratio do I get for the 10,000 lb towing?

You would need the 3.73 gears with maximum tow package option. Goggle search Ford Towing Guide and you can pick you model year (guessing 2022) and it will give you all the numbers for each body type, drive type, and bed size. I just bought a '22 2.7 ecoboast Super-crew 4x4 with the 5.5' bed and tow package. I only have to pull a 4,100# travel trailer, so it will do just fine.

No 2.7 with 6.5 foot box regular cab with 3.73 for 2022. 😞

I looked at a new f250 last year and the f150 and decided on a new F150 supercab with towing package and extended range fuel tank . I didn't realise the truck doesn't come with rear inner fenders until I got it home, I ordered the factory inner fenders inserts and if your in the northern states I would recommend adding them because of snow and salt, it took 10 minutes to install them was all, I added a catch can , and a timberline rear suspension upgrade for towing .I like the truck overall but my biggest complaint is mileage, I drive mine 90 percent highway at the speed limit on cruise control, I never excellerate hard and have never had it past half throttle since I owned it, the highest mileage I have ever had is around 15.7 and I keep my own mileage records and don't trust the dash readout ,even tho it's showing close to the same as my records , when I bought the truck it said 18-22mpg but I definately don't get the 18 mpg driving 90percent highway, if I would have known it was this low I would have just got the f 250 with the 7.3 gas engine , so it's a good truck but I am moving to a f250 next year

I have the a 2020 f250 with the 7.3 engine. Believe this when I tell you this the mileage only goes down. At tops the best I got was 17 with nothing on the truck. That was only one time and the majority of the time I am get 15.3 or.4. I try on a regular basis to get better numbers. I work in construction and I have my own stucco business. I’m towing every other day. just connecting an empty half ton trailer drastically drops me to 11 or 9 mpg. That’s going 60 on the freeway. Believe me if I could I’d go back I would. the f150 with the v8 ,payload package with the full cab and 6 ft bed. That’s my opinion on that it’s. Its capabilities are up really close to the f250. Towing is at 14000 payload 3000 or so. My payload on my 250 is 2600 and towing is 15000. Then also comparing price differences f150 I drastically cheaper depending on the model.

Do you have the 5.0 or 3.5 ecoboost in your HDPP truck?

    • @donm3844

@@uttamgala7186 My truck has the 2.7 twin turbocharged v6 and I have only added the factory inner fenders ,a tinberlin rear suspension bump stop kit ,a catch can so old engine oil oil isn't circulating thru the motor and a start stop eliminater, weather tech floor mats and bedliner ,so I haven't made any changes to the truck that has added weight or wind resistance

@@donm3844 oh what?? Yeah that’s definitely not normal for the 2.7. That motor was built with fuel economy in mind. My 5.0 10 speed isn’t great in the city (I have a flowmaster cat back system, 10 ply tires and auto start stop has been disabled), but I didn’t buy it for city use.. on the highway if I’m not laying into it I see 21-24 mpg depending on the terrain and conditions.
I did test drive the 2.7 and where it actually shines is city driving. I did notice that over 65mph the fuel economy went down drastically - which is the reason I went with the 5.0. What speed are you going generally? Still, even if you’re doing 75ish, this numbers seem low.

@@uttamgala7186 I have never even had it at half throttle just because it accelerates fine driving sensibly, I generally use cruise control as much as I can and the only use my truck gets is 95 percent highway, I have never used it for anything but long distance trips. As far as my cruising speed if the speed limit is 65, I run about 68 if it's 70 I usually set it at Round 73 , when I go from stop light to stop light I am never in a hurry so just go with the traffic flow , I took it to the dealer at 20,000 miles and showed them the dash mileage at the time , it said 15.5 , I do also calculate my own mileage which is pretty close to my dash reading , they scanned it said nothing was wrong and said just keep driving it and it will get better , now after 50,000 miles the best it's ever been is 15.7 and it's currently showing 15.6 after my trip this week , I used to run premium only for the first 10,000 miles and it was averaging 15.5 at the time. then I switched to running a tank of premium and then a tank of regular and it's remained the about the same ,so that's what I run now , so I am guessing it's just going to just be what the mileage is and it's definately broken in now
