I heard this version playing in my head, as I finally surrendered and dragged myself into rehab to take back my freedom from addiction. Your take on this fills one with hope, while not being afraid to acknowledge the pain. Thank you
For anyone wondering, it looks like his banjo is tuned to Double C. Trying to piece it together
You make is ok to use the words clawhammer and elegant in the same sentence. 👍
Nicely said.👍✨️
Lukas, your interpretation of Foster's tune has long been my favorite. It captures the essential southern soulful introspective he must indeed have had in mind when he composed this in the mid 19th century. The version you play today is sublime and so beautiful! You have evolved a distinct mastery in your unique style of playing this over the last few years. Thank you so much for posting.
Thanks times are a changing. Love the depth of this banjo peace.
Class

Agreed.
The most beautiful version of this beloved song ever played. Wow.
I didn't know this song could get any better. Stunning.
I gotta tell you, this song, well your previous version is why I fell in love with the banjo, I bought one and started playing it, still learning but listening to this song helps me calm down and often moves me to tears, you are a great player, I aim to become a great player like you!
💪🏻
Beautiful and so fitting in these hard times...
I love the sensitivity of your performance. Subscribed.
I'm so glad I found this channel. Beautifully done
Thanks for the tune! I love checking in on your site, good tunes, great presentation and you both play well together ( especially with the new member of the family) . Now that I have time and most of the house projects are caught up, I’ll be working on this for awhile. Stay safe and be easy on yourselves, long way to go.......
I watch this this video over and over. This is so beautiful and calming. I'm new to playing banjo. I wish I could play like this. AWESOME.
Absolutely beautiful ! So encouraging during these crazy days.
Those chords from 00:46 - out of this world gorgeous. Please, please will you give us a tutorial video on your website of some of these most beautiful chord variations that just lift a piece into something transcendental?!
Agree completely. I had to rewatch that portion just hear it again
A stunningly beautiful & understated but intricate & moving rendition of this classic/timeless tune & song.♥️ Bravo 👏 and thank you.👍🙏

This is a really lovely performance of a very sophisticated arrangement of this poignant old song.
Best octave harmonics I have ever heard.
never had a song explain freedom like that before.

What beautiful, warm tone you have! Reminds me a lot of how my dad plays clawhammer. Stay healthy!

Beauty..👏
Is this arrangement closer to your version 1 or version 2 tab?
I just wish I had your touch
This is very pretty, and I'm glad I heard the song.
I hope it's not too obnoxious or intrusive to ask, but I'm rather new to the banjo. I have a middling resonator model which I like well enough, but I keep hearing videos that ditch the very bright tone of most banjos for the mellower, warmer, maybe even darker tone of yours. I've looked into the comparison of resonators versus open-back, and I know that's part of it, but I'd appreciate any tips you might have for warming up my banjo.
And I'm seriously a novice, so speak slowly? ;)

Your playing is stunning. So beautiful. I have 3 questions - what wood is this banjo, what kind of tone ring does it have, and what kind of head is on this banjo?
Beautifully played. Do have a tutorial or written tabs available on how to play this?
No more American song than this one.
Lydia from Timcast sent me.
your link provides no tablature anymore. That said, I'd happily buy a tablature book if you sold one having heard several renditions of your songs now. You have a beautiful method and I'd happily patronize it by buying a book if you ever put on out.
Thanks! I have this tab on my lesson site, here’s a link. ozarkbanjo.com/clawhammer-banjo-lessons

I saw your website, it's lovely but I don't do monthly subscriptions. Ill keep your site marked though and check back from time to time to see if you ever put a tab book up. Keep up the great stuff I wish you all the best!
the link in the description doesn't work anymore
Love it!
Is the tuning DCGCG?
Howdy there! Just chiming in to say l love what you do. Also, may I ask what brand/make your Banjo is?
Lukas makes banjos. This looks like one of his.
Lukas, could you do a video on banjo head tuning?
Lukas. What strings do you use on your banjos?
whoa, that's pretty.
Can you share the banjo tuning for this please?
Link for the tab is dead

Beautiful tune but is there a wolf note on the top string, on the fret below the fifth string tuner? (I'm a violinist and one of my violins has a wolf note on the D string).
Please cut an album.
