      Never gonna happen bro, but no harm in getting inspired and doing your own thing. Allan would have certainly wanted that as he himself never wanted to be another copy cat. Btw there are quite a few guitarists even in UA-cam that aim to analyse and achive his sound, why dont you get in touch with them?

    Some people do not realize that creating and conceiving this kind of music with this level of sofistication harmonically, rythmically and melodically is much more difficult than its execution, which in itself is already incredibly hard to play!

      Couldn't agree more. I discovered Allan Holdsworth many years after studying contemporary classical music, and I was amazed. My ear had become accustomed to complex rhythms and harmonies during my formative years, but hearing Allan play his complex music with such confidence and joy, it was on another level. I was blown away and became an instant fan.

    When Holdsworth released "Atavachron" I think we got the first greatest view of his musical concepts beyond the guitar (IMO). He's always said it's about the sound and the music and not about the instrument.

    • @rembeadgc
      @rembeadgc 9 років тому +11

      Sure, feeling is very important, but that on an individual basis. The feelings we have about the music when we hear it are uniquely personal. I think we usually assume more commonality in regards to feelings about music than we should. Holdsworth made his statement about the sound of the music over the instrument itself because so many people "listen with their eyes instead of their ears". In other words so many people want to be visually impressed and neglect to focus on what their ears are hearing in terms of melody, harmony, timbre, rhythm, etc. These are the things that should then primarily stimulate our feelings and not so much visual things like how fast someones fingers are moving.

      Wow, why would you pick Petrucci as an obvious inferior to Holdsworth? I mean Malmsteen I can understand, he's very one-dimensional. But Petrucci is one of the most versatile guitarists ever, before you even get into technical ability. Not "better" than Holdworth but worthy of listening to alongside him.

    I was lucky enough to meet him at a Synthaxe demo in Manhattan Beach many years ago. After the demo, he asked if anyone there could play bass (he brought his own drummer along; all I know is it wasn't Bruford, damn it!). I had with me my blind friend who's one hell of a guitarist, and I knew he played bass as well, but he refused to raise his hand. So I found a Fender Jazz, tore it off the wall, plugged it in and thrust it into his hands, then pushed him up onto the small stage. He was pissed at me for a year, but got over it... and he held his own for the most part--but how many non-pros can keep up with Holdsworth?

    I believe it was Ted Templeman who really gave Allan a bunch of shit over the album he made for Warner Bros. He told him he didn’t understand him, how could he wage everyone’s time making the album (Road Games); how ironic! Probably my favorite album by anyone, ever.
    I’ve heard this story a few times, still can’t process anyone giving Allan crap about anything...
    Finest guitarist ever, finest music I’ve ever experienced, and just the kindest, humblest, warmest human ever. Ask anyone who’s ever met him! Frank vacated his own studio for a week to allow Allan to record Road Games there, with Frank’s then drummer, Chad Wackerman. Says loads about all parties involved. Thanks Frank for helping make it all possible, thanks Allan for just being who you were.

      Love Road Games! My fav Holdsworth. Saw him on that tour at a small jazz club in Dayton, Oh. Talked about a miking/recording cabinet he designed & beer after the show. He loved beer!

    • @MacXpert74
      @MacXpert74 5 років тому

      I have to agree with the comments of others here. "Ahead of his time" doesn't really apply to music in the same way as it does to other things. We are used to think of our species as always progressing to something better/more advanced as time goes by. But for music it's really not true. In fact the opposite seems more the case. Music in the last 20 years has been on a steep decline in quality, both in composition, arrangement as (ironically) in recording quality due to the 'loudness war'. The best music is definitely in the past, not the future it seems.

    It’s wild to me how ahead of the curve this guy was. The only other place I’ve heard guitarwork anywhere close to this level is from prog metal bands like animals as leaders, the contortionist and fallujah. This dude was doing that stuff in the 70s and 80s. Incredible

    Ecouter Allan H c'est abolir le déferlement des bruits et des images du quotidien pour entrouvrir l'espace d'un ailleurs où la contingence et la représentation cèdent la place à l'immatérialité du sensible. La puissance expressive de l'architecture sonore rompt avec toute forme de transcription du réel pour s'attacher à l'expression d'un univers fabuleux où la couleur et le rythme des compositions constituent une respiration qui donne voix à l'exaltation 🔥🕌✨
