Charlotte Webb She really is great. She has portrayed many different emotions throughout the series and this one is up there with the very best of them.
Carlene Boulden As we've said before, Val had such a talent for high class acting and it didn't seem to matter what the scenario was, she was always able to act out the character of Bea in such realistic fashion. What I meant in my previous comment was that her ability to portray the emotions she did here were pretty awesome to watch. But there are so many of them when you look back.
My favourite storyline from the series. The original top dog, the meanest screw and the most dangerous enemy in a 3 way battle of will. Will Bea crack? Will the alliance between Nola and the freak hold up? Can any of the other prisoners or staff do anything to intervene? I am extremely grateful to PCBH95 for the series. It must have taken enormous effort to get all 692 episodes uploaded but binge watching this back, some 20 years after seeing the original, doesn't give you the tension or suspense of waiting for the next episode. It built up over a few weeks and I cant think of many better storylines in any show since. Hats off to all 3 actresses as they deserve great credit for their performances.
When Ann is at Joan's apartment, they talk about everyone except Joan herself! And she's the only rotten apple around there. Such a conniving freak trying to butter up an unsuspecting Ann early on.
Yes Nola eventually got her comeuppance but to be honest I did find her funny at times and her alliance with Joan was interesting, wondering if Joan would turn on her. They should have shipped her out of Wentworth to Barnhurst kicking and screaming, yelling at the top of her voice everything that Joan got up to with Bea laughing at her saying "good riddance".
Nola and the Freak are in dire need of excruciatingly painful deaths for what they've been doing. The puppy can go to Meg and while we're at it, Joan's father can find solace in Meg's arms as well.
Good that justice was done over the murder of Denise's son. It was a fitting end to the story-line and top marks to the brave kid for owning up to it. Zara is way out of her depth as a phony medium. She will crack up along with Bea if she has to take it much further. Very convincingly acted by Val, though. Bea looks in real distress which shows once again what a classy actress Val is.
2:39 and Maxine fucks things up yet again. She should bloody well own up to hurting Denise to stop Bea from going into the pound. That girl really annoys me.
Tricky Nicky Yes, Maxine and Dumb Dor are cut from the same rotten mold! Selfish to the bone, cowardly, and manipulative! I cannot wait for Nola to slap Mad Maxie around again....she deserves it! LOL
I have heard that Val Lehman didn't like this Zara storyline, but she was brilliant in it. I personally really enjoyed it, I remember watching it for the first time, I was gripped by it, dying to see what happens. It was good to see Mrs M break the rules and let Lizzie visit Bea in solitary too!
Oh yeah I totally get where you're coming from, don't worry I respect your opinion completely :) For me though yeah it just kinda pushed the boundaries a little too far, I mean it is just TV but I just found the whole concept a little disturbing, it just wasn't fun watching it unfold. The final outcome was classic Prisoner though which made it all worth it, but it was a pretty powerful storyline, and the performances were absolutely brilliant.

How do you find the time? I always have at least 5 series going on, plus a lot of box sets in a queue- I have enough to keep me occupied for the rest of my life, haha. UA-cam, Netflix and Amazon are to blame. :)
I don't for a minute buy that anyone as sharp as Bea has always been would ever fall for this supernatural claptrap. Way out of character. Sure, she read tea leaves early on, but she never took it seriously.

My beef with it is that, however much Bea misses her daughter, she's sufficiently pragmatic and cynical to at least question what's going on. She walks into the trap almost willingly.
Okay Lizzie screams out to Maxine no more bashing ,while Meg and Joan are literally only ten feet away from her and don't over here what she saying. Another credibility gap. Good dissolve and cut away from Joan the master manipulator to Bea sitting in her cell. great performances from Val Lehman and Sheila Florence and Lisa Crittenden at the end
Cruellest, nastiest, horriblest storyline in the whole of Prisoner ever. And I haven't even watched the rest yet. Please let it be over soon. Can't bear to watch Bea deteriorate like this.
I absolutely hate this storyline too. Its just very uncomfortable to watch and just cruel. I hate it. I hope its over soon aswell. Tempted to skip a few just to miss it all.
It was a ridiculous storyline. Fun to see Bea get her comeuppance and Val Lehman acted it well. But overall, a really silly concept for a storyline and almost wasn't recorded.
Dane B I agree. This storyline is just stupid. I can’t buy that as skeptical Bea was in the beginning she would fall for this hook, line, and sinker. And wouldn’t she wonder why she can suddenly hear her daughter’s voice when initially only Zara could?
It seems like a stretch to me. She's skeptical one minute. A believer the next. And she never questions why she can suddenly hear her daughter's voice when at first only Zara could and how does Zara know what Bea's daughter sounds like? I chalk it up to the usual bad writing and lack of continuity when it comes to the characters. Great acting but lousy storytelling.
Bettie Joseph WAIT !!!....PLEASE DO NOT WISH FOR DOREEN TO RETURN! You might just get what you wish for --- and frankly, I cannot stand Doreen! I was SO glad to see her ass fade away into the sunset --- with her whiny, vindictive, slutty, ignorant, tactless ways, and manipulative neediness! All of her actions were made even more potentially harmful when combined with her downright dangerous stupidity which bordered on the pathological! Nope! I would not wish Dumb Dor on my worst enemy! LOL
Aww, i LOVED Maxine. I would love a younger sister like her. She's full of life but sadly doesn't learn many lessons. At least she would make me laugh. She's kind of innocent and naive really.
Carlene Boulden Good point! Everyone knows that Doreen is so irresponsible and stupid that she cannot even look out for herself....what to speak of a defenseless and helpless baby?!? Dumb Dor has proven time and time again that she is a true danger to yourself and anyone unfortunate enough to come in contact with her! Consequently, no one in their right mind would ever leave their child with Doreen.....at least not for long! LOL
Shirley Marie Bradby yes all true what you say about Doreen, very stupid and very dangerous! I'm surprised anyone liked her in Wentworth, especially after stealing lathams baby!!

Julie 'I heard it on the radio' Eggbert is such a boring character only the perverts like to look at her but besides that her character is as relevant as the stupid tattoo girl
Bea is sent to solitary based on shaky circumstantial evidence (obviously, many other inmates would bash a child abuser, too), while the Freak gets away with outrageous $#@% for years despite very strong suspicions by the staff.
This hocus pocus stuff with Zara has got to stop. It's destroying Bea and it's hard to watch her suffer. Ouija boards can be a dangerous thing to play around with. You don't mess with the spirit world. Poor Maxine to hear the news about her father dying just when she was going to be released. She could be annoying, but I grew to like her and will miss her being around.
Interesting to see Joan entertaining someone at home. I'm glad everything went right for Denise. This whole storyline made me think about seen in Wentworth after Boomer was coping with her burnt hands (Bea punished her for beating on Liz for lagging) and she tells Liz " I wouldn't be in this mess if I hadn't had to thump you". Liz replies that that doesn't even make sense. It was nice to see the new version call out how stupid the no- lagging policy can be.

Fergo has a cheap manual typewriter when they already had good Electric typewriters in 1970's. How can The Gov allow personal prison files outside the prison ?????
The new Gov needs a personal Administrative Assistant to help her with the paperwork, typing, filing etc... Not a screw, Fergo, taking personal prison records home and she has alterior motives too.
It's amazing that Val Lehman (Bea) didn't want to appear during the Lanie/"Ellen" storyline because she deemed it too unrealistic...yet signs on for this ridiculous storyline shortly afterwards.
Apparently they were going to give her her own spin off show due to how entertaining her character was but they were scared that her spin off show would out trump Prisoner so in the end they didn't make the show. She's the most interesting character ever. How dare you.
Sheila Florance is great in this, especially in the midnight visit to Bea in solitary. She went to her grave thinking her daughter had killed herself, but the murderer later confessed.
Charlotte Webb Yeah, Ann sees through this arse-licking, muck-spreading and shit-stirring BS pretty quickly and is on the same side of Meg, Colleen, the other officers, staff and the women, which turns the Freak against her, the sad, petty, friendless, old goblin hag. 😄
Oh yeah, I think because around the time Pippa was actually introduced they'd just introduced an inmate named Julie Egbert so they renamed her Pippa just to avoid confusion.
Pippa Reynolds is Ann's posh daughter who makes a surprise appearance in (540). Ann does not seem disconcerted that she is no longer called Julie, which is how she referred to her daughter in episodes (367), (378) and (417). In (544) when Ann has to speak sharply to her daughter, we find that Pippa is not a nickname or pet name but is short for Phillipa. Presumably with another Julie (Egbert) around at the same time, the scriptwriters could not risk any confusion.
16min in ann tells joan she has a son paul and daughter julie, for all who have watched all before the later episodes when her daughter shows up her name is pippa.

40:56 "Well, That's a turn-up for the books." I wonder if a charge of boyslaughter means a lesser penalty than manslaughter. I guess with boyslaughter they just let you off, since the boy who slaughtered will just forget about it in a month or two. It's easier to just move on with life when you're really young.
PrisoneroftheNight Well, it was ruled an accidental death; there was no premeditation nor malice aforethought, so the charges are always less severe even if it were an adult that was being investigated. In any case, since Russell is a minor, he should not be charged . However, under his name, he should have sealed records in the juvenile court documenting the incident! Furthermore, child social services would probably recommend that Russell be monitored for psychological repercussions --- because one day - maybe when he is a teenager --- he will really understand that he KILLED HIS BROTHER --- and that knowledge and guilt can really do some serious damage if a person is not prepared or does not have someone to help them come to terms with the circumstances and the results of what he did when he was only eight years old. So, I do not think Russell will really just "move on" --- yes, he might repress the knowledge of what he has done for awhile -- perhaps for some years --- but subconsciously he KNOWS that he killed his brother --- even though it was an accident --- and eventually he will have to face this fact!
It starting to become clear why the actress who played Mrs Davidson decided to leave the show - she must have read the awful script about the mental torture of Bea - the shows becoming too dark with no amusing scenes to balance things out
@@rosslamb7069 absolutely agree 100 per cent . She must have been such hard work. She always got what she wanted. I love bea smith , not keen on Val Lehman atall

Now tattoo removal bloke has to travel all that way just to remove the rest of Lainy's tat's. What wasted travel time and petrol.
@@cuccicucci4480 if only she knew that in about 25 years time tattoo's will be the norm and her and Allen/Ellen could run their own tattoo shop.
Apparently they were going to give her her own spin off show due to how entertaining her character was but they were scared that her spin off show would out trump Prisoner so in the end they didn't make the show. She's the most interesting character ever. How dare you.
I’m certain that when I watched this episode before Alan was outside waiting for Lainie ??
If Fergo wants to help she could do her typing at the prison and get her overtime. What's the Gov thinking ?
Sheila Florance is great in this, especially in the midnight visit to Bea in solitary. She went to her grave thinking her daughter had killed herself, but the murderer later confessed.
Lisa’s a brilliant actress
I love Lizzie and Bea
I start watching it here almost every time. just knowing Mckensie gets I just wish fergusen would get it!
Plz tell me that this friendship of Ann and the freak doesn't last??? That woman makes my blood boil amazing actress tho!
Oh dont worry....It doesnt take long for Mrs Reynolds to work out that Joan Ferguson is The Freak like the women call her.
JPW W Man, Reno is Picard with hair:)
Roll on when pixi comes in she brings life into program
Nice 00 gauge model railway with the Class 55 Deltic pulling the Pullman coaches.
Er I thought Ann's daughter was called Pippa? Lol
31:09.......I'll need to use the "my vibrations are buggered" excuse next time I'm late for work!
16min in ann tells joan she has a son paul and daughter julie, for all who have watched all before the later episodes when her daughter shows up her name is pippa.

@@samisticlife guess thats what happened..
38:28 that police woman copped a feel!
+Angie Johnson Chandler Yes, I totally agree.....
It starting to become clear why the actress who played Mrs Davidson decided to leave the show - she must have read the awful script about the mental torture of Bea - the shows becoming too dark with no amusing scenes to balance things out
Apparently her and Val had a fall out. Val apparently was a pain. Can tell it's true by how arrogant she is in interviews.
@@rosslamb7069 absolutely agree 100 per cent . She must have been such hard work. She always got what she wanted. I love bea smith , not keen on Val Lehman atall
