Best baby advice I give all friends after I have had 6 babies: When they are infants and crying nonstop, it is almost always gastrointestinal discomfort. Watch their legs when they scream. If they pull their legs up to their torso, it is upper gastro issues, aka gas and need to burp. Putting pressure on the belly while you burp them can help ease the discomfort while you get the gas up. They can also confuse gas pain with feelings of hunger, seeking to nurse, but more food will increase discomfort so be aware of that if baby should not still be hungry. If they keep kicking out their legs straight, it is lower gastro, trying to poop or even actual constipation. You can help them manually, including holding their feet so they have traction to push. If actual constipation, there are tricks so see which ones your pediatrician recommends. Just knowing that saved us from many sleepless night. ❤❤
On the judgmental mom bit: When I had my first baby, I was going through severe postpartum, depression and anxiety. It also didn’t help that I was with someone extremely awful to me 24/7. I tried to breast-feed and my child would not latch well on top of that, going through postpartum depression and anxiety, and having a baby scream from colic and need to be breast fed what felt like every hour was driving me to think about ending it all. I made the really hard decision to stop breast feeding a few months in. I cried every day and I felt guilt, but I did feel WORLDS better. I remember I was having my first good day in a while and I logged on to Facebook to see one of my childhood friends say “if you’re a mom and you don’t breast feed, just say you’re an egg donor because you are NOT a real mom.” I genuinely wanted to d1e in that moment! I know it sounds dramatic, but it was the worst and my mental health was already at its lowest. This was 8 years ago and I’m so happy and mentally healthy, but I can’t physically comprehend why moms judge other moms. Being a mom is HARD. Why make it harder?
That’s awful that you went through that. Postpartum depression and anxiety is serious. And to know you weren’t supported by your partner is really sad. A woman will never ever forget who was there for her and who was not, how she was treated, while being pregnant and postpartum. I have recently had 2 babies (a year apart) and never even tried breast feeding. There are ignorant women out there who will try to make you feel guilty or less than for not breast feeding - they are just idiots! Breast feeding doesn’t make a woman a mother. It’s such an ignorant thing for someone to say that! I bottle fed both of my babies and they are thriving, happy and healthy, thank god.
Clancy, The chart that you showed says that if the baby's heart rate is less than 140, it's a girl. Greater than 140 is a boy. So... that makes sense that his 181 or 182 heart rate shows that it's a boy. 😊
I adopted my nephew when I was 20 with only 9 days of prep time so unprepared was my middle name. I feel like after a week things just start to click? Every family is different and every child is different. So while childcare and baby books are helpful, always trust your gut instinct on what is right. Same thing will all the baby products. Lots of those are just clutter and you don't get to really use them. I always say for my next child I need two expensive purchases: a fenced in yard and a nice recliner.
nurse assistant at a children’s hospital! 1. the hair thing are called hair tourniquets and are very real, it’s part of a work up if someone comes into the emergency room for inconsolable crying - they can also be around fingers, genitalia, etc. 2. please take an infant cpr class! obviously i hope you never ever have to be in this situation but knowing cpr is genuinely life saving not only for your baby, but for everyone around you ❤

Just a quick question. I had family in with my first birth. It was an awful experience and I never would do it again. But I do wonder, how does your mom feel about not being in for the birth? Is she struggling with that idea? I ask because I am a mother of four boys and know one day I will have to support and honor their decisions.
That fun fact about hair wrapped around toes is so real! My sister had super blonde curly hair as a kid and one of her hairs was wrapped around my toe. When changing my diaper my dad pulled it off but accidentally just tightened it around my toe with no one noticing. My parents took me to the hospital once they saw my purple toe hours later and the hospital had to send me to a children's hospital to get it removed. My poor dad almost passed out when he noticed what had happened! Check those toes!!!
As a Jeweler I agree with Zak about taking your rings off. If you end up having to have them cut off please please have a jeweler cut them. We cut them cleanly and makes a lot easier to repair later on. It does not hurt.
He is right about the hair on the toes. Our son Anthony had a hair get in his feetie pjs at 5 months old, and the hair wrapped around his little toe, cutting it to the bone. The hospital struggled to remove it while saving the toe.
As a Mom of a 23 old I can tell you judgy Moms have been out there forever! I was in some of the first online “Mommy groups” and I can tell you there were huge arguments about breastfeeding vs formula, cloth diapers vs disposable, car seats, baby wearing, and oh so much more. Also, I had planned exactly how I was going to raise my baby and then she got here and did her own thing 😂. Every child is different and sometimes you just have to go with the flow.
Zac is actually completely correct about hair wrapped around babies fingers or toes. I had that happen with one of my kids and it was so tightly wrapped and it was my youngest of my 3 and I was shocked because it had never happened with my first 2. So absolutely keep an eye out for that. I love how you skipped over the question regarding month of conception 😂was that an accident or purposely missed
Actually Zac’s advice is really good advice, hair can get wrapped around baby toes and fingers and it can be dangerous if it’s cutting off circulation, I can happen fast. It happened to my oldest. Especially during tummy time when their little feet are kicking and their toes are touching the carpet or a blanket. Dog hair can also penetrate their skin between their toes/fingers like a splinter. I’ve had a dog hair splitter, that sucks.

I glance at her toe and it was PURPLE - she had a hair stuck around her toe that we luckily got off. Pediatrician said to keep Nair on hand for emergencies like these since that’s what they’ll do at the ER
A baby boy can also get a hair wrapped around other things besides toes and fingers. It can happen during diaper changes as well. It is one of those things that you just have to check if the baby is upset. I recommend brushing up on infant CPR and Heimlich. Our NICU had us take a class on it and I really appreciated having that knowledge, even though I never needed it.
It’s not funny!!! Both my kids happened to us! My first it wasn’t that bad, tight bud I could get it off with baby scissors. But my 2nd child I had to take her to the doctor! It was so tight I couldn’t get the safe baby scissors in between the hair and the skin 😢 it was so scary! But both my kids it was a finger

As an early education preschool/daycare teacher, I truly believe that a social setting for very young children (including infants) is a very valuable experience and helps give children an opportunity to observe, create, problem solve and learn how to interact and recreate with their peers. This gives babies and children confidence and security to interact with others and the world we live in :)
My household is looking into getting a cleaner unfortunately I’m in a small town and we don’t have those options it’s just people with their own businesses. It’s myself 29 and my mom 60. I’m chronically ill and she works long hours so it’s tough to get the deeper cleaning done basics are fine it’s the floors the showers those kind of bigger jobs that we struggle with

You should get silicone rings to help with during your pregnancy. I have one and it makes a world of a difference.

Try a harness the hooks at the front not the back. This is what I use and it helped the pulling 100%
