Mikael's vocals are insane in this track. Keyboard solo is insane as well.
NOBODY......... does it like Opeth. They are on a level all their own .
There are MANY more songs ( ballads?) like this in their discography.
amen!!
only ballads I think I might like more are from Epica lol
(once upon a nightmare) still probably my #1 from them in that department .
Opeth - Moonlapse Vertigo
Opeth - April Ethereal
Opeth - A Fair Judgement
A Fair Judgement is what I want played at the end of my funeral plus 2 of my original songs!
@@Defensive_Wounds Hey that's exactly what I've been saying since I heard it the first time.
"Faith in Others" - The most underrated Opeth track IMO. It is a masterpiece. Truly showcases their incredible musicianship.
My favorite in PC
Here here!
Beneath the mire. So underrated.
Yesssss. Criminally.
They need to do it!
My favorite opeth song
Opeth - The funeral portrait
Opeth - Godheads lament
Yeah, both of these songs are among their best, especially Godheads Lament. That song is possibly the most "Opeth" song they've ever done IMO.
I totally agree...you want some vocal diversity? Godheads is where you want to be!
Opeth - The Funeral Portrait
Opeth - Godhead’s Lament
Opeth - Moonlapse Vertigo
Moonlapse Vertigo is very underrated and under played live
one of the slickest keyboard solos ever
A fair judgement
To Bid You Farewell is a great "ballad" by them. It's a long one but worth it.
My personal favorite because that song is what got me into Opeth. Been some 15 years or so, still doesn't fail to give me the feeling of listening to it to the first time. 🙌
Windowpane guys, it's their most beautiful song.
I'll forever love this song
The song that gets them chicks backstage
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard.... Amazing in every way...
Mike wrote this song about his ex who committed suicide while he was about to record this album. There are others songs in the album dedicated to her. 💔
Really? What a terrible story!! How can one survive something like that..
This is a very special song indeed. First time I heard it…couldn’t believe it.
Yeah you nailed it, they intentionally have the guitars go out of tune at the end
you can hear the tuning keys getting turned at 7:07 . Great stuff!
No shit
Yea maybe hes trolling fans
OPETH- APRIL ETHEREAL
This song is an Opeth staple, and the first Opeth song I ever listened to. The song that got me addicted.
FYI- It's a brutal song, one of their earliest.
they don't want spoilers in recommendations. Don't write that the song is brutal or mellow etc.
Opeth is not just a band, it's a great genre.
truth, melinda enjoyer
Opeth - Funeral portrait!! Damn!!!!
Godhead's Lament needs to be next!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written
Opeth - Godhead's Lament
Opeth - The Amen Corner
One of the most spectaculair metal ballads ever made.
This song has one of the best keyboard solos ever recorded.
Your Opeth reactions are the best. I have been a huge fan of theirs for 20+ years and still get goosebumps when hearing certain songs. You have reacted to so many great tracks. I have favorites, as does everyone, that we would love to see you do.
By the Pain I See in Others
Voice of Treason
Advent
Amen Corner
Hax Process
The Funeral Portrait! You MUST do it!
You had me at Opeth! Burden! This band changed my definition of heavy. The lyrics, the darkness , the beauty. My favorite, Deliverance. A tale of jealousy and murder. So much in their discography!
Welcome to your first Opeth ballad 🙂🤘
The keys sound like something straight out of a Deep Purple song :)
windowpane/fair judgment/white cluster
The sound of the organ and guitars does remind me of the one and only: Focus. A famous Dutch progrockband from the seventies. They were groundbreaking in those early days. Guitarist Jan Akkerman had (and still has) a specific tone and technique that was considered by his pears of that time to be world class. And of course very seventies indeed. Mikael Akerfeldt did, if I'am not mistaken, mention Focus several times as one of his inspirations.
This, Windowpane, Faith in Others, Harlequin Forest, Ghost of Perdition and a few others are easily my favorite pieces of music of all time.
Next one has to be Moonlapse Vertigo
Moonlpase Vertigo!!!!
PLEASE MOONLAPSE VERTIGO NEXT!!
Continuum or Lovelorn Crime off of their newest album (In Cauda Venenum) are very similar to this one. Long, sweeping ballads, and very reminiscent of Pink Floyd. Great album.
Lovelorn Crime, please!
For me, Porcelain Heart was something special. That's how I discovered Opeth
me toooooooooo, that riff and the insane drums and of course the lyrics and vocals
I wanted it to go to the next song so bad at the end haha still haven''t seen a reaction to Porcelain Heart from you guys so that would be my recommendation
I know you’ve done a bunch of their stuff already but the Opeth Live at Red rocks videos are incredible. The light show, the control over the vibe and crowd..it’s worth the revisit.
If you love the keyboard solo, check out Steven Wilson "Home Invasion/ Regret #9"
Agree, what a masterpiece
Eternal rains will come. Pure eargasm.
Moon above sun below
I'm so glad you have listened to this brilliant track.guys. What a ballad. What a band .You are so right with your description of the song ....sombre yet uplifting. The keyboard solo is insane . I was hoping you would forget and let it run to the next track ..👍🤣.. Thank you for yet another brilliant reaction to my favourite band Opeth. 👍✌️🤘☮️
Yup…you are so right. Opeth do want this song to sound like the 70’s rock…with a hint of Deep Purple and Rainbow. They nailed it. My favourite track. 👍🏻👍🏻
I contributed!
We're getting close... maybe the next one will be from the post Watershed era... I'd enjoy to see "Moon above, sun below" or "All things will pass" for sure ! Thanks for this one. Peace !
They're so talented its hard to even comprehend!!!!!! fuxk! its my favorite album of theirs!
the apostle in triumph must be next
The thing is with Opeth and most non metal fans they hear the Growls/Gutterals and instantly say “nope not for me” then turn off.. and it’s them people out there missing songs like this! There was a time when Mikael had a growl/scream what the devil would be envious of.. but he’s cleans are stunning genuinely one of the melodic voices ever! It’s always good seeing other people enjoying your favourite band cool reaction! I look forward too the next! Also I think it’s time too heat these guys live I strongly recommend masters apprentices live at shepards bush!
Same with Black/Death metal fans with any Opeth song with clean vocals
That keyboard solo is soooooooooo sick
The next song after this one on Watershed. Porcelain Heart
Funeral portrait! The outro is amazing
Gotta do A Fair Judgement next after this one
A Fair Judgement
The Apostle in Triumph would be amazing
BY THE PAIN I SEE IN OTHERS..... PLEASE!
Yessssss 🤘
Yeeeeeeeeaaah... HAMMOND KEYBOARD PART... LOVE IT... 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Opeth - Dirge for November
Porcupine Tree - The Sound of Muzak
Katatonia -The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here (with Silje Wergeland)
You should do “Beneath the mire” next ❤️
Guys, you should try some old Opeth tracks like "Forest of October" or "Advent"
Under The Weeping Moon :D
Vote for Advent here. They haven’t touched Morningrise yet. I think they’d dig that one.
Don't forget me
This song is fantastic
5:29 dude just entered the deep-thought zone. This song will do this to you.
Sorceress live from Red Rocks. Just amazing.
if you want to listen to more ballads, now its the time to explore the Damnation album
THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT 5.1 BINAURAL version!!!!! From blackwater park album
couldn't wait to get home for this one!!! the First time a few years ago when you 2 were shocked by his amazing singing voice I was like, they have to hear Burden then lol Worth the wait!!. This is Freedumfries I just use my real name now lol
What’s up Chris 🤘
Windowpane please!!!!that is love!!!!✨✨✨♥️
Ready to accept that Mickeal Aferfeldt with the help of Steve Wilson is brilliant. Watershed is the only album they did that I could handle on Mushrooms!!
Don't forget Funeral Portrait!!
It's building mood for the next song
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but the ending of the song, when they were recording it someone detuned the guitar as he was playing as a joke, that "ah ha ha ha ha" at the end is Mikael laughing about it, ended up keeping it in the song! 💪
I never really paid attention to the acoustics at the end, the guitars going out of tune was a cool effect, and combined with the laugh blending into that clicking sound, I bet it leads into the next track so well.
There are still several great tracks to choose from. I still think Windowpane deserves its turn, but I also want to see The Funeral Portrait. Shit man...Opeth.
If I'm not mistaken, I think Mikael laughed because it was getting genuinely hard to play the riff with how loose the strings were getting.
Opeth, their music just soars into the stratosphere. Try Lovelorn Crime for another vibe similar to this.
Windowpane next please! Great mellow song... that whole album is amazing tbh!
The outro is Mikael playing the acoustic guitar while someone else is slowly detuning the strings one by one and so the sound gets worse and worse until Mikael couldn't take it anymore and started laughing. They then cut the laughter up into that staccato sound and it leads into the next track.
Come on, couple, please!
OPETH - By the Pain I see in Others (!!!!!)
OPETH - Under The Weeping Moon
OPETH - April Ethereal
Isolation Years will break your heart
*_Opeth - Godhead's Lament!_*
Pretty complex song and surprisingly overlooked in my opinion...
Yes! I'm wainting for a reaction to this song, one of my favourite!
Great reaction as usual
Ahem...
Silhouette, Under the Weeping Moon, To bid you Farewell, Moonlapse Vertigo(roundhouse tapes maybe?), Harvest, Wreath OR By the pain I see in Others, Windowpane OR Closure, Beneath the Mire - Atonement(twofer?), I feel the Dark, Moon Above Sun Below, Sorceress, and maybe just the whole Album - In Cauda Venenum
keyboard solo gives me CHILLS every time.....
Again everything you may choose will be great...for smooth:patterns in the Ivy 2,eternal rains will come, folklore😊thx for your great reactions
please do more opeth reaction guys! awesome :)
Head to 2021..get current. I recommend Heart in Hand or Dignity from the In Cauda Venenum release.
That song... THAT SONG
Caligulas Horse- Graves is fuckin incredible and needs to be next on your list. One of my favorite songs of all time
I remember this song is the first one get me in opeth world ( 2008 first time
You two are badass ... Just thought I'd let you know
You both should check out “In My Time Of Need” from the Damnation album since you really liked this one. Also “Face Of Melinda” from Still Life has some of the same feel, which is more subdued Opeth than most of the songs you’ve reacted to so far. I’d also like to recommend a couple more from Blackwater Park… “Harvest” and “The Funeral Portrait.”
Yesss 😭😭
Great reaction again to the possibly the best band on earth....u have done many....but still only scratched the surface...keep up the good work!!!
Opeth - A Fair Judgement
Opeth - The Funeral Portrait
Both will change your life, guarenteed.
Whatever you choose, do a LIVE version! Their live stuff is so damn tight.
Something like Under the Weeping Moon (from Roundhouse Tapes) would be epic. It's from their first album.
The Moor!
They alreade did that reaction. You should check it out (also, one of my favourite Opeth´s song)
That bass tho!
Solo masterpeace
To Bid You Farewell is a MJST, should react of it
*Dirge For November* is still the greatest song by Opeth so far.
So much Bipolar emotions.. sad and eerie.. with the darkness feel
Opeth - A Fair Judgment... Insane track 🙏
Would be great if you keep delving into Opeth's more atypical songs like this, I think it's time to get into their post-Watershed era.
All Things Shall Pass
Folklore
Moon Above, Sun Below
Folklore is so damn good.
I,
Once upon a time,
Carried a burden inside.
I sung a last goodbye,
A broken rhyme
I'd underlined.
There's an ocean of sorrow in you
Sorrow in me
Saw movement in their eyes
Said I no longer knew the way
Given up the ghost
A passive mind submit to fear
And the wait for redemption at hand
Waiting to fail
Failing again
If death should take me now
Count my mistakes and let me through
Whisper in my ear
You've taken more than we've received
And the ocean of sorrow is you
