    I am having a hard time figuring out whether I want to become a Zoologist, Wildlife biologist, or a Marine biologist. All of which work with animals and do the things I would love to do, but I am extremely worried about how stable the jobs are that come with these degrees. Also, I am concerned on how much schooling you are doing to get into a job that is very low in pay..

      well in the uk the starting salary is 21 to 25 thousand. After a few years is bumps up to around 30 thousand. And maximum 45 thousand. In my mind that is pretty good!

      Be a zoologist. It pretty much covers the 2 said fields, allows for a larger array of research, and is quite literally the full package in wildlife research. Not to mention, the salary it gives out is also quite huge. Ranging from $63,824-$99,936 on an annual basis. So it’s more than enough for you to feed an entire family.

      I have a BS in Wildlife Biology and MS in Botany ( as you can't understand the animals if you don't know what they eat and their habitats). You don't go into these fields to make money, you do it because its what you love. Working in a job you look forward to doing everyday is more valuable to me. I've taught High School and College, worked at a Zoo, worked in an Animal Research Laboratory, worked for the CDC, worked as a Field Botanist, as a Park Naturalist, as a Federal Ranger and Environmental Engineer. The job possibilities are endless and very enjoyable.

    It's taken me so long to decide what to do (i'm 23 . . ) for a while i wanted to become a veterinarian. I've always loved animals. But i also want to help protect wildlife. So i'm leaning towards this now. I am still a little lost however. I'm thinking of majoring in Biology (because I'm not 100% sure of if it is what i want to do) but I'm worried it's too broad of a major, especially if i can't use it for zoology eventually if i do decide on it. Should I go towards Biochemistry instead? (i would appreciate a little help!)

    • @GossipGirl518
      @GossipGirl518 9 років тому +2

      I know how you feel! I'm 21 and it took me a while too to realise what i wanted to do because i got pressured into doing a degree in law. How are you going to try and get on this career path?

    • @VisualxxKhaos
      @VisualxxKhaos 9 років тому +2

      Well, it would still be nice if someone gave me a few tips haha but I decided to go for Biochemistry (since I think it's a good base AND a plan B b/c Biology might be too broad and wildlife biology is a bit hard to get a job in from what i hear) I'm trying to find an internship (right now i'm looking into an aquarium here which has an aviary section as well) and will keep trying to do that to gain some experience in it and improve my chances of getting a job in Wildlife Biology when I graduate. Maybe I'll go back for a masters in it depending on how I see the job market and my chances.
      Yes, expectations and pressure from others makes it hard to decide as well, but I'm glad you seem to have decided (2 years younger than i am!) So, how are you going about it (I'm guessing you're going for Zoology/wildlife bio?)

    so a zoologist has like an adventure everyday and helps cool animals as well as maybe discovers many different types. I thought its was kind of only confined to a zoo but you can do zoo and outback national geographics nice. The skills would be similar to physiology , anatomy , microbiology ,biology,... applied to animals . The tools are not to complexed but they defintely have some dangerous situations as well as cool animals/sites excellent video would be cool to see those places

    @TheNerdatron123 I'm in the same boat as you. I'd love to be a zoologist, or an environmental biologist. • @hxhxhgfd
      @hxhxhgfd 8 років тому +2

      Well, if you're asking how science helps people, then I could type for hours. To give just a few examples, all those medicines you take when you're sick, the cars you drive to get to work and school, the heater that keeps you from freezing in the winter and the air conditioner that keeps you from baking in the summer, the computer you typed this comment on, the internet you used to connect to UA-cam, the power plants that produce the electricity you use on a daily basis, the water filtration plants that make sure you have clean water to use and drink, the fridge that keeps your food cold, the TV you watch watch whenever your favorite shows are on, the cellphone you use to talk to your family and friends, the GPS satellites that make sure you're always aware of where on earth you are, all exist and function properly thanks to careers in science and engineering. And that's only a small sample. Climatologists and conservation ecologists work to understand and protect our climate and wildlife from the negative impacts of climate change, neurologists and neuro-biologists constantly uncover new mechanisms within our brains that aid in the treatment of debilitating diseases like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, geologists and volcanologists work 'round the clock to better predict and anticipate seismological events and eruptions, meteorologists look into ways to better predict disastrous weather phenomenon and warn people before they're at the mercy of things like tornadoes and hurricanes, pharmacologists find new ways to make better drugs to treat countless illnesses and maladies.... I could go on and on and on.
      In short, does science help people? I'd argue that, along with engineering, it's been one of the most dramatically helpful efforts in human history.
