Roadside Picnic has the distinction of being the basis for one of the weirdest great movies I’ve ever seen-Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker. The cover photo is a shot from that film. If you read the book, you just have to see the film! Also, Jeselnik is a genius. The man’s timing is beyond belief.
I read Elevation a few years ago. (No spoilers) It's a good, well written Stephen King short story. It's the closest to a "feel good" story I've read by King. It truly feels like he has the weirdest thought one day & decided to make a short story about it lol you'll enjoy it!
Ooh, I just read The Answer is No recently and I'll be very interested to hear what you think of it. I'm also super excited about the idea of voting on your books. Fun!
I read James and Elevation and really liked them both. With James I thought it should have been a little longer . I just turned the page and it was done..hmmm.... My favorite Fredrik Backman is Britt Marie was here. She was a quirky character....loved it.
Hey if you don't get through ten just put them in order. I don't mind a simple "i read these 5 books and here was my favorite" type of starter vid, especially if it's less stressful or burdensome on you
Elevation is a bit of a marmite novel(la) from my understanding. I’ve seen other King-booktubers both praise and despite it. Personally, I think it is a nice little book. I at least enjoyed it. I’m currently reading Weaveworld by Clive Barker and I think it is great so far. Next up, I’ll read Rant by Chuck Palahniuk, and then I’ll see what else I have time to read in January xD
Cool reads for the month. I read The Trees by Percival Everett last year and really really enjoyed it. I’m planning to read James this year but I want to plan to Huckleberry Finn first, so I can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
@ I picked up The Trees on a recommendation from the actor Bill Nighy (not to me personally, he was being interviewed 😁) without knowing anything much about it. Then I heard it was Booker shortlist and my heart sank a little. Booker nominees tend to be very worthy and sincere, but it was hilarious. The last 10% I felt let it down a lot, but the first 90% was a blast. So his stuff is good and with all the praise James is getting, I’ve high hopes.
Sorry should have been clearer! Loved it! But definitely the most visceral thing I’ve read since Blood Meridian. Went through the chimpanzee part not long after eating dinner and wish I hadn’t 😂. Great channel btw keep up the good work!

4:21 the phrase is “champing at the bit”. Not chomping…

I really loved James.
Yes, Roadside Picnic!! The fathers of Russian Sci/Fi Fantasy :)
They have so many great and interesting books
I just picked Elevation up from a thrift store a couple months ago! I'm so excited to hear how you like it. Great picks this month, enjoy!
Excited about the discord!
Can’t wait for the discord mate! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on James!

James was my fiction book of the year last year. Nuclear War: A Scenario was my nonfiction if it counts.
Good list. I read Elevation a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it.

Oh, these picks look really exciting! I might have to try and read them all too!
I just watched Stalker and was completely lost. And I grabbed the book to see if I get some clarity, I will read it this month

"Elevation" was a cool little read. It took just a few hours to read, but the ending was a bit sad.

Blue Ruin is a great movie. Since you enjoyed it (if you haven’t seen it) watch the director’s second film Green Room
Your number one choice will be 'Roadside Picnic', possibly still in December 😜
You’ve got some heavy hitters on deck!
I'd love to know which Frederik backman books you've read as Beartown is one of my favourite books of all time and still have to finish the last book.

I haven't read anything by Everett yet so I'm really curious. I heard so much about it last year.

I ugly cried at the end of Elevation. I loved it. 🤗
Oh YES! Nothing better than balling crying over a book. That's my favourite hobby haha!
@PaperbackJourneys 😂
I say again, just like I did when I had other names to comment with: Rosemary's baby and This Perfect Day. Thank you
Highly recommend Boulder by Eva Baltasar
The Vegetarian by Han Kang is such a weird book I wouldn't even know how to explain it to people. I really enjoyed it, but I don't really know why lol
elevation is so good
Just read The Troop based on your horror book recommendations. Christ!
Oh no! Did you hate it? Or was it just shocking?

I read half of Diary of an oxygen thief then threw it in the trash.
First
Early bird! HAHA.
