We're closing in on it being TEN YEARS since this film came out; that just boggles the mind. I still remember watching this scene in IMAX, taking in every detail and anticipating those Raptors turning on Hoskins.
It reminds me of being disappointed that the crocodiles were not fed live chicken 😂 My friend was horrified at the thought, but my point is that those chicken had been killed anyway.
I've always liked Owen's mentality towards the raptors. He never thought these animals were "trained". He always treated the raptors with the appropriate respect and alertness, knowing that they are still wild animals with millions of years of predator instincts and could turn on him at any point. The whole "turn them into weapons of war" was such a ridiculous idea, but sadly very human, if a bit cliché in fiction.. Love this scene, it shows the hunting behavior well! With Charlie and Delta slowly trying to flank Owen.
It's not like he innovated it or something either. Trainers for pack animals like huskies use these exact steps to train their animals, and they even go further and sometimes have to use physical discipline. And that's because pack animals that retain their original instincts do fight each other to establish who is the alpha. Like in the wild, the trainer will constantly be tested by the pack too. For more vicious species, it can be highly dangerous to turn your back, because they're always ready to knock down the leader when they show weakness. This is known....and yet most folks don't really realize this, thinking that most animals can be domesticated, not knowing that domesticated animals are bred to be submissive and dependent on humans. Taming wild animals isn't domestication, and it's not foolproof or permanent. Unfortunately, the attitude of the mercenary in the film is all too common. There's also a bias in a lot of military trained people to believe that animals can all be similarly trained. To use the previous example, sometimes people see trainers beat up wilder breeds of huskies, like Siberian, and say they're abusing the animals. But those would take a bite out of you if they're not properly trained and disciplined. Likewise, Vic here sees Owen barely able to keep the raptors back and nearly killed as they charged him when he turned his back...and he only sees what he wants to see, the fact that Owen kept them back.
Watch how Owen feeds the Raptors. To show then that he’s the alpha and the one in charge, he feeds them in reverse order showing he can feed them in whatever way he pleases. However, he saves the biggest rat for Blue since she was patient and to show respect for her position in the pack.
This movie got me into action-packed content, I remember watching this on Television when it was released, can't believe this came out in 2015. I think this movie also made Chris Pratt one of my favorite actors, don't get me wrong I'm grateful for everyone who was in the production of this
A little detail: Echo is the one to grab the pig and only rejoins her "sisters" after all is said and done, snarling at the worker through the bars. This fits with her personality - she is the rogue of the pack, even challenging Blue for the title of leader at one point (accoding to tie-in media).
Saw a comment that although the raptors show a close bond with each other and Owen, they're consistently competitive about food. That explains why they're so aggressive here, despite later scenes showing they don't immediately try to attack Owen when he's around them (like when he's riding the motorcycle). They aren't betraying him here, they think he's hogging the food, and are trying to intimidate/fight him into sharing.
When I had seen the theatrical release of Jurassic World, I was like "Oh, no, not these critters again.", because I knew all too well of what would happen if they had ever gotten out into the open. At first, I despised Velociraptors when I had seen the 1993, 1997 and 2001 films, but after seeing how Blue, Delta, and Echo had turned against the Indominus Rex and couldn't attack Owen, I actually like them now. They weren't like those other Velociraptors from the previous films, they were different in a way. It's too bad that Charlie, Delta and Echo were killed off. Fictionally speaking, if the U.S. Government, the Costa Rican Government, and international terrorists organizations had ever learned that InGen was attempting to use carnivorous dinosaurs such as Velociraptors and the Indominus Rex as bio-organic weapons for war, the U.S. and Costa Rican Governments would've considered it to be an outrage, not to mention that the international terrorists forces would've taken it personally as well and strike with a vengeance.

Well, the training is kind of based on what zookeepers at accredited zoos use in their training: positive reinforcement. Zookeepers also know that a wild animal can be dangerous which is why they don’t share the same space. They also know they have no control over the animals. Owen is even using a clicker to let them know that they’re getting a reward which zookeepers also use to let their animals know they did the behavior correctly.
@@Powerranger-le4up The first World movie has an interesting relationship with IRL zoo keeping techniques. Because on the one hand they had Owen use techniques used by people who work with large predators.
