One other comment. While the B-52 is vulnerable to sophisticated air defense systems, it does have an awesome electronic warfare system that has never been revealed to the public.
My dad once told me that the B-52 has the ability to generate enough electrical power to light a decent size city. Translated, that is enough power to block just about all electronic defense systems on the ground or in the air.
I don't know what he meant by that, but decades later when I was an independent consultant supporting a DARPA program for the Joint Special Operations Command on an exercise in a very remote location in the US, an EC-139 flew near our command center and shut down ever electronic device we had. It took us 2 hours to come back on line.
I've heard that we have a Microwave cruise missile that can not only shut down electronics but permanently disable them. This is not a secret because the Defense Department released a video of a simulation of what this cruise missile could do to both enemy and civilian electronics. This was when North Korea was threating the US and DoD had this simulation video of this technology that was in development but could be made operational in days.
Who knows what technologies our defense department have that have not yet been revealed.

Amazing how so many people bitching about how terrible American life is are often in the US, UK or similar. Could we do better as a nation? Absolutely. However I am grateful for many things that we consider "business as usual", that would be extreme luxuries in many other parts of the world. Perspective is important :)
Fast forwarding the clip doesn’t mean they are in a run. You just increased the speed
That clip is only sped up once they're in the cars driving away. Not while they're running to the cars. He definitely needs to speed up a van accelerating to make it interesting lol.
I mean dude you can clearly tell they’re running or at least jogging, nobody walks like that but that is the average jogging/running motion. If you’re referring to the beginning clip, then sure it was fast forward probably because it was a longer clip and he wanted to make it shorter without cutting it short. Which is a common and normal thing to do for editing.
I mean, it makes sense. The Air Force has lower PD standards. Especially in 2024! They probably fast-forward it because there wasn’t wearing the one crucial piece of safety the infamous PT Belt! That thing will protect you from a nuclear explosion!
Judging how their stance was and arms slightly in the air once they arrived at the cars, you can tell they were actually sprinting towards them. Moving your arms up as you slow down near an object, is a natural thing humans do to protect themselves incase of an impact. You can tell that the clip in the beginning isn't fast forwarded by looking at the man in the background, on the right side of the last car. It's not until the cars start driving, that the clip is fast forwarded. I'm no car expert, but those do not look like they go from 0-60 in under a second. Speeding up the clip slightly at the end, keeps the audience in this "state of rush". It wouldn't have been the same, watching the cars drive away their regular speed.
I read about a retired AF pilot on a commercial flight, when the aircraft was struck by two heavy bolts of lightning. it knocked out everything, including radios and NAV equipment. One pilot called the flight attendant to get the AF that he knew personally pilot in their cabin. they flew the plane, he put a water glass that gave them that they were in level flight. The AF pilot called on his cell phone, reached his old base, they triangulated the position, transferred the call to a civilian crew, got the fighter support aircraft on the way, guided them to the first place where the airliner could get out of the sky in a safe manner. then went back to his seat and watched them land intact.
I feel like the water glass thing was exaggerated! but why wouldn’t you use a water bottle? I’m not saying it’s not, i’m curious ask you how long ago it was?! Mainly because aircraft is struck by lightning all the time it comes with the territory! Personally, I would’ve used water bottle!

In Viet Nam a B52 strike with conventional bombs was called an "Arc Light". It had pinpoint accuracy and we could feel it in the ground under our feet miles away. Many older weapons systems are very useful when applied properly.

Firemen poles should be installed to facilitate a scramble and reduce the possibility of a sprain ankle while running down the stairs with equipment

Nice PR job! One question! What took them so long to get the engines turning and burning? After 50 year my stress level still goes up thinking about what I had to do when the horn went off. The aircraft were preflighted up to engine start, so only had to hit the starter switches to rock and roll! If everyone was in the Mole hole, all jets could be running and ready to taxi in about 5 minutes. If a crew was outside the alert facility they had better be up and running in less than 15 minutes. There were 2 types of practice alerts, start and sit in place, or start and taxi. Nobody would know it was a practice till notified by the Command post, so everything was done at 110%. After that the jets had to be re-cocked, all engines couldn’t be shut down until one new starter cartridge had been installed. If it was a taxi the jets all had to be towed back on to a spot, then refuelled. That had to be done as quickly as possible too! 110% remember! That’s a lot of adrenaline! Well that’s enough for now, remember B-52s ROCK!

Perhaps you may remember that cartridge starts placed extreme thermal and mechanical load on compressor, due to oil temperature and thicker viscosity. Plus increased maintenance costs due to fouling of systems from cartridge fuel.
USAF and Global Strike Command is proposing a re-engine of B-52H using 8 engines from efficient regional jets. How those engines handle emergency alert scrambles and rough hot air of MITO departures is a classified question with classified answers.

B-52s do not have an auxiliary power unit. Normal ground launch uses a ground air source to start the first engine. The air from that started engine is used to start each of the other 7 engines serially. Normal ground launch sequence takes about 12 minutes to get all 8 engines running at idle. B-52s do not sit on the ground for one hour 'warming up the engines.'
All of this talk about scrambling is making me hungry. Think I'll scramble up an omelet.
I watched 494th pilots run to their F-15E’s from the head shed on 11 September 01 from cable shack 5 south. About 15 minutes after the second tower fell.

No, there is only 1 crew who know how to Scramble and that is the RAF. Plus we wouldn't be parking the buses half a mile away from the ready room. We always take great pleasure in safely flooring our Landys across the pan and taxiway!
My father flew a B-52G out of Loring AFB during the mid to late 60’s it’s now on the pylon outside of Offut AFB. Anyways we would ride down to runway when Alert was sounded my father and his crew because he was 1st seat would stay in a bunker nearby runway. Never thought that it took very long to watch the black streaks.
I was in SAC, if the BUFFs fired up on the hot pad and took off, we were going to war. During ORIs, the ready pads would fire up but never take off.
DURING DESERT STORM I WAS ABLE TO WATCH OUR SORTIES ON MISSIONS THAT TAKEN ONLY 15 MINUTES TO LAND REFUAL RELOAD AND RETURN TO ACTION

I live in the Shreveport- Bossier area where we have Barksdale Air Force Base which is one of the two bases that are home to the B-52 so all my life I have watched them fly over and I have known multiple pilots and I know they love flying the massive plane.
I worked at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City and we could tell when the buff would take off and the Bone too. Both rumbled the ground for a 1/4 mile.

B-52 can remain operational for many more decades, simply because of its of its timeless design for what it is meant. They are not used as frontline airplanes, they are designed to go after the line has been cleared of air defences with ground fighters like A10s, F22s, F35s etc etc. Their tehnicallity is they are cheap to produce( at least when compared to other types of bombers like B2), maintain and can carry insane bulk of heavy explosives. Even though they were made in 50s, they are not the same plane; they have been brought to perfection over trials and errors, I dont think there are alot of planes of such type that have as much experience as B52s have. When they end their service they are gonna be 100 years operational, which in aviation is unheard of.
I remember when these bad boys were based at Wurtsmith and Seymour Johnson. No sound like a water-injected take off.

Great Video.... The movie : " DAWNS EARLY LIGHT" gives a pretty good rendition of what it may look like when pilots scramble to fight...it's only a movie but it does try to give the impression of how much time they have to be air borne...kinda scary....

USAF pilots are REALLY pampered(I would bet that the other Services pilots would agree),jeeps were WAY too uncomfortable for them! Passenger vans are comfortable! They have really good heaters for the winter and really good AC for the summer.😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

I was assigned to the 92d Security Police Squadron, we had B-52G's on 15 minute nuclear ground alert, this meant when the klaxon sounded the crews had 15 minutes to be on board the bomber with the first one at the runway threshold awaiting clearance to take off. They also practiced MITO minimum interval take off to evacuate the base as we were a target that would get hit by at least one nuclear weapon from our enemy. Everything was designed for this purpose including the streets on base. All non essential traffic had to exit the roadway when the red lights started flashing and us Security Police would be on the roads making sure the order was followed. I arrested a commander's wife for not getting off the roadway, her husband had to stand before the man explaining his wife's actions, she was released that day, but I am sure her husband a B-52 crew member gave her what for!! We can thanks General Curtis LeMay for his planning and design of this system as he headed Strategic Air Command for 9 years from 1948, to 1957.

5:06 I feel like it’s more of a shotgun shell than a rocket motor! Correct me if I’m wrong! Used to get the first pair engines going, which allows the start of the other three pairs of engines! Kinda like how they did it and World War II, for example on the wildcat, although that literally look identical to a shotgun shell! But the cart start is an explosive, not a rocket attention

I hate to break this to you,BUT, when the crews get that scramble order- they usually don’t know that it’s an exercise‼️They have to react quickly because it could be real‼️The amount of stress is overwhelming to say the least‼️Plus, the crews have to clear SECURITY to even get to the aircraft‼️If they screw that up, they will be shot(exercise or not)‼️USAF/SP/SS

Answer my own question, I's actually a small rocket motor.
Yes, there is ‘no’ explosion just a whooosh as the propellant spun the starter up to speed. If the propellant had been contained, then it would make a very loud bang! And yes I did load quite a few starter cartridges on real Nuke Alert in the 6 years working on BUFFs.

Fun fact bomber crews do not rush to bombers no matter how quick there told to because no bomber is in a constant state of instantly ready to go even the newer bombers are still walked to since theres not any point in rushing when its gonna take a good 30 minutes alone to actually have it ready fueled and and armed same for fighters but fighters at most id say atleast 10 minutes also no not even in high states of alert at most alert states will have more "patrols" closer to the weapon lockers and carts en etc ready to go faster and unless its a b-52 atleast 5-10 minutes reduced yes i know video might say this but incase anyone needs just that extra confrim
