I used to irrigate at my grandpas ranch, those were long all night shifts. Minimum 12 hours. In Northern California we call the port holes, takeouts, and the area between the borders we call checks checks.
I started in field when I was 6, picking stones by hand all day with Dad. Picked stones by myself with tractor since 12, after I serviced the equipment. I was even moving equipment 15 miles down the roads. Started driving pickup when I was 9. Dad bought a grain vac and a stone picker when I graduated grade 12. Pissed me off, still can't get over that.

Great video Zhac, I was impressed by Trevor's Irrigation system, it works the same as our Famous PA Yeoman's Key Line flood irrigation,he was a Mining Engineer he developed the Key Line system back in 1960 ,He used to flood irrigate in a similar way, about 15 acres would only take a hour to irrigate, that was a lot of water , for every acre 1 inch of rain equals about 27,154 gallons so I think it would take 4 inches over 15 acres to irrigate it in one hour. I could see his reasoning , Trevor was smart to see its the quickest way to irrigate a lot of paddock area in small areas and the cheapest. Thank you for such a good video Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Steam injection- that’s a great idea! Numerous years of having to bale late at night or early mornings to take advantage of the damp night air just to save the alfalfa leaves

Thanks again Zach. These other farm visits are a great addition to your channel. 3:20 Wait no,finish that story!! Did his wife think he married someone else as well? 🤣🤣🤣 5:40 He didnt quite answer your dad's question -how the rye is seeded. I guess they could drill it between the alfalfa rows but that sounds difficult. They're really close together. Maybe spread over the fields but not buried? The mower guy works long days continuously??!! That's epic I think i understand why they chose flood irrigation. It's actually more efficient than spray irrigation in dry climates- because spray greatly increases evaporation losses. Plus it looks like they've set up the fields to drain perfectly -that's the laser leveling he mentioned.
This was different but I liked it. Your son sure looks like his grandpa. I couldn't believe the speeds they go with the equipment, o bad rocks I guess. Thank you

Thanks again Zach. These other farm visits are a great addition to your channel.
3:20 Wait no,finish that story!! Did his wife think he married someone else as well? 🤣🤣🤣
5:40 He didnt quite answer your dad's question -how the rye is seeded. I guess they could drill it between the alfalfa rows but that sounds difficult. They're really close together.
Maybe spread over the fields but not buried?
The mower guy works long days continuously??!! That's epic
I think i understand why they chose flood irrigation. It's actually more efficient than spray irrigation in dry climates- because spray greatly increases evaporation losses.
Plus it looks like they've set up the fields to drain perfectly -that's the laser leveling he mentioned.
Onyx at the wheel! First time this year. He’s a master baler, for sure.
Great video zach. Your a great voice for ag, your making so many great memories with your son
This was different but I liked it. Your son sure looks like his grandpa. I couldn't believe the speeds they go with the equipment, o bad rocks I guess. Thank you
I was baling driving tractor at 10. i can't remember when i started baling but it was pretty young! Good for him!!
Love Sonic's milkshakes. :)
Welcome to the west. It's a little dry out here.
You're an amazing Dad Zach. You are making memories that will live in your son forever!!
Stay blessed

That "10 Year Old Bailing Hay", looks the spitting image of your grain cart operator, they must be related.
When I first saw the landscape, I said "looks like El Centro, Calif". Later, when I found out what the location for Bales Hay is, I was like "oh, yeah...". Great footage, and great driving, Onyx.
We run the previous generation to the swather you ran. First time I ran it I spun in circles so good job Onyx! (Sorry for mis-spelling)
I was driving a tractor on our farm at ten, I didn’t think it was fun when all my friends were out playing. Now I wish my sons could have had the same experience, I miss it. Especially being with my Dad!
Look at him go! Good work Onyx!
Now this is awsome we lived there for 21 years hay fields the smell was amazing!
Thank you!
Love the smell of freshly cut alfalfa. If you enjoy farm videos I think you would enjoy our family friendly farming youtube channel County Line Cowpokes ua-cam.com/video/KLKvNubyDO0/v-deo.html. Our farm can't compete with MF's amazing equipment so our videos include humor that the entire family will enjoy along with beautiful farm scenery including drone footage, and some agriculture education
We’re always worried it’s not dry enough before baling, wow adding moisture. Not something you’d see here in the mid-Atlantic as far as I know
Think I had that same smile @ 10, 1st tractor I drove didn’t have a cab though.
Some do spray a preservative but I’ve never heard of adding moisture
@@rodger7029 yeah, we use an inoculant that allows us to bale at higher moisture. (Conklin, Feedstore) but I’ve never heard of adding moisture in our area (SW Va)
Great to see your dad getting to see some of the southern farms.
It's awesome to see Onyx in the video doing really cool stuff.
I remember seeing those bale wagons when I was a kid and thinking they were the coolest invention ever!
Did ALOT of flood irrigating growing up.. we didn't have fancy concrete ditches.. had a dam made out of plastic material and a irrigating shovel...
I was his age when my dad taught me to bale. We used to make about 30k of little bales a year.
I was smiling with you Onyx. It’s a rush when it all goes right 👍🏻
I like how Onyx is always a great sport on trying things for the camera! Way to go buddy😄
I live in Phoenix, so his place is not far away for me. I have hunted Dove in the area for years. You guys are having tooo much fun. Glad you guys could be here while we have nice weather. Beats the heck out of the NOTH country.
3:22 I want to hear the rest of the cuñado “brother in law” story!!! Sounds like it was going to be a funny one.
Apparently, his sister wasn't in on the deal. 🤷♂️
Exactly
He saw my sisters new mustang GT and decided he wanted to marry her.
@@BalesHayFarmandRanch Are cars female!!!
My sister showed up in her new mustang. He didn’t know it was my sister. He just saw a new mustang. When I told him it was my sister. He decided he wanted to be my brother in law. Lol
Simply love seeing him smile driving tractors 😊
