I'm only halfway through and this is already the most informative of all filmperson's interviews I've ever seen. This gives so much insight into what really goes behind film promotions for international awards and how only making a brilliant film will never be enough. It forces you to question: is it all even worth it?
it's right time unite and put under same place indian cinema.there is no south and North cinema simple difference is language.thanks to team brings a platform showcase what's happening in indian cinema every week.thank you
hello mister or miss...I'm not paranoid may be you are in that stage...i wish a single platform to showcase talents at one place thats it. It was my opinion and Thanksgiving to team.if you not under stand shut your mouth .
Thanks Baradwaj for this interview. Filmmaker Vetri Maaran explained the process of reaching the Oscars quite well. And yes the culture which draws west to such movies. Have no knowledge of the 4 languages from the South. The explanation on sound mixing for the Oscars is notable. Got a new headphone last weekend and that was useful today.
Film Companion has become my one-stop-channel for understanding and keeping abreast with the world of Indian Cinema!!! Kudos and more success to the platform!
I've been wanting to request FC to focus on Tamil movies for a while now as so many unique movies are being rolled out from Tamil cinema. And who else could be a better choice for this initiative than Baradwaj Rangan? Thank you so much for kick-starting this with Vetri Maaran. 'Visaaranai' is one of the films I venerate the most. I hope to see Kamal Haasan soon here. Thanks again for FC South! :)
Film Companion Thats awesome! Would you take viewer questions? Also, we might have to come with "simple english" subtitles ☺. And, get us our Mani Ratnam pls pls.☺
absolutely thrilled over this! over the years of watching impressive cinema from the southern film industries, I always felt left out due to lack of my understanding of the regional language hence could never understand the interviews . I just want to give my best wishes to the team.Kindly bring regional movie reviews regularly too.BTW loved this interview with Veterinarian sir.
Vetrimaran's vada chennai is terrific. His perception of the Oscar is exactly right. He has full potential to make India proud by winning Oscar! Kollywood is becoming more promising ground.. Hats off!
Arshad Mohammed We don’t have to see The Oscar as yard stick for our craft. We get just 2 or 3 slots for best foreign movie category which means they are primarily for American movies. I’d rather say we should have something similar in our country too. National awards lately have been become a joke now.
Great and commendable effort by FC. Thoroughly enjoyed Vetrimaran's clear and informative interview. He is a ace film maker and deserves many more laurels in the future.
Finally, FC hits the south note! BR is a great choice! Glad the truth about "more wine, more dine fetch more Oscars" finally came out in Indian Media. ☺
Who better than Baradwaj Rangan to give the most unbiased, real, and intelligent outlook in South Indian movies to people who don't know much about it. Film Companion, take a bow.
OMG! now we are competing in the international market, I guess our Tamil filmakers should be a good marketing and PR manager more than a film director I guess :-D Werner Herzog for your screening and the conversations you have had is in itself an OSCAR I should say!
It will be great exposure for films to reach more audience. It may also help lots of good movies which previously didn't get recognition, keep up your great work team FC
Extremely happy that Film companion has taken this step to create a space for South Indian films! I hope it breaks the typical stereotypes around sound indian films and bring light to some amazing work done down south. p.s. Soo Excited to see rangan bharadwaj in your team! 👌👌
Nice. Hope bharadwaj becomes more pleasant when he asks questions. He becomes visibly stiff and serious now. Also, please stop reading the *whole* questions from the cards !!
Background red theme reminds Kubrick's Shining Film

It does, doesn't it? There's a dark side to the Oscar story, and we are happy Vetri Maaran spoke to us about it.

Now I can understand how Hey Ram missied out.....poor kamalhasan ...,lacking marketing skills as always.
The Oscars just lost a lot of shine, for me!
Arshad Mohammed We don’t have to see The Oscar as yard stick for our craft. We get just 2 or 3 slots for best foreign movie category which means they are primarily for American movies.
I’d rather say we should have something similar in our country too. National awards lately have been become a joke now.

Oscar and its propaganda looks like a waste of time. No wonder ordinary cliched movies like Lala Land won.
what the hell? la la land is a brilliant film. the story isn't the film only. Read about what Indian critics has to say about La La Land.
it's more like bribing to get into 'OSCAR' such as shame
Awesome, very informatics interview .good to see both genius sit and communicate
