The thing you will come to realize, Jenna, is that Tuomas is such a brilliant composer, every song is a new adventure. He has no idea how to be derivative or uninteresting. The music is captivating, but when you finally begin to explore his lyrics, you discover he is a poet at heart. He just happens to put his musical genius together with his poet's heart. In the five other members of the band, he has found soul mates, who can express the visions in his mind to our ears. None of them have a discernible ego, but play to the composition. In Floor, he found a color pallet that allows him to paint masterpieces far beyond what he ever had before, and he challenges her while she accepts that challenge and takes the song to the heights it deserves. Another wonderful step on the path to Musical Heaven that you are on ... fun to watch!

@@KoalityReactions Thank you. I am quite looking forward to when you get to some of the deeper, emotional songs. some will require a bit of understanding and background, others will not. "Dead Boy's Poem" is brilliantly beautiful and really touches the heart. It is the only song I've seen where Emppu does not smile as he plays. You can also see his emotion as he waves his fingers at the strings during the solo, almost wanting the poignant pause to hurry up. Another favorite is "Ghost River," an absolute banger about death and crossing over the river. One of the heavier songs, but my favorite Nightwish moment is Emppu doing a little bunny hop during the breakdown, then going into a guitar god pose for the harmonic lead. "The Poet & The Pendulum" requires a bit of background ... it is considered one of the "holy trinity" and is the most devastatingly emotional songs. I'd wait until you have a stronger feel for the band and their songs. In my opinion, the masterpiece and greatest composition of my lifetime is "The Greatest Show on Earth" and is the musical interpretation of the Richard Dawkins book on Evolution. It tells the entire story of this planet, and the life upon it, in approximately twenty minutes. It is so brilliantly composed, that I believe one should get college credits in evolutionary science for listening to it. You might want to research the lyrics to understand the significance of the poetic and allegorical phrasing. "The cosmic law of gravity pulled the newborns around a fire," refers to the planets falling into orbit around the sun. "Lonely farer in the Goldilocks zone" for instance, refers to Earth, the only planet in an area "not to hot and not too cold" for life, as we know it, to exist. The imagery is breathtaking and he flexes his poetic muscles. I am with you on your journey, following close enough as to enjoy, yet trying not to interfere. The brightness in your eyes says everything, and allows me the privilege of experiencing my own discovery once again with a friend this time.

Thank you for deciding to continue exploring this true ocean of good music! Yes, Nightwish has reached that high of creativity where each of their songs is different, and yet so easily recognizable. "To blame" for this is Tuomas Holopainen (the keyboard guy), the main composer of the band.

I fell in love with Floor and Nightwish due to this performance and this song. It made me go see them live (it was amazing). Other singers have her range, few have her agility between styles, but pretty almost no one has her tone, power, control and presence on stage to go along with all of that. She is mesmerizing on stage.

    • @jamescurfman3284
      @jamescurfman3284 Рік тому +3

She is 100% unique as far as vocalists go.
I am SO GLAD that she got her start the way she did, rather than a myriad other 'normal' things that could have happened to influence her. She might be a solid Classical singer right now and never touch Metal, or she could be a bona fide horse rancher and she never would have met Hannes... Just CRAZY stuff to think about...

Did you notice how easily Floor can command a crowd with just a gesture? When you re-watch the song, notice that Floor did not ask the crowd to clap along. She just put her hands over her head & clapped, & 82,000 people just followed along with thinking about it.

When you go deeper into the Nightwish rabbit hole, you will see that this is indeed not 'the Floor Jansen band' (she is the 3rd front woman in NW's history), but that the other band members also will bring their own unique portion of professional musicianship. Be it singing or playing one or more instruments. or on-stage shenanigans.

    Hi Jenna.
    Nightwish Army NJ here.
It's safe to say that keyboard player Tuomas, embraced his inner child when he began writing songs.
Many of his lyrics point to emotions that have to do with early childhood and wild imagination.
He references Disney movies a lot as you read about Neverland and Peter Pan, but he added Alice as well...
"Follow the madness, Alice, you know once did."
And yes, Tuomas writes all music and lyrics for an album, then presents them to the band during their break. During this time, bass player Marko, helps with any ideas or changes he may come up with musically as well as lyrically.
Marko also takes that opportunity to show Tuomas a song or 2 he may have written himself so Tuomas could add at least one of them to the album.
Guitarist Emppu (em•poo) and drummer Jukka (yoo•ka) also attend the demo introduction to familiarize themselves with the ideas.
Once they all put their minds together, the album starts taking shape.
Then starts the music recording portion of the album along with any last minute ideas or changes from everyone, which is usually minimal.
Not sure at what point Troy and Floor arrive to hear the demo, but the band takes a trip to Angel Studios, London and meet up with Pip Williams, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's The Metro Voices, and Young Musicians Children's Choir.
Tuomas shows Pip the album and they all go to work in adding the orchestral and choral parts respectively.
Tuomas doesn't travel with an orchestra, but he does use the recordings as backing tracks when playing live.
Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed.
    😊❤️🤘🤘

Windmill. Early in her career Floor was having problems with headbanging and consulted a physiotherapist. They worked out that the windmill was the safest way but you will notice she braces her hands on her thighs and uses her shoulders to help the windmill giving less strain on the neck. Definitely Romanticide next from the same Wacken festival to introduce you to the next singer in the band.

Her 'hair whipping' is called the 'Dutch Windmill'. To see her going wild in that regard watch '7 Days to the Wolves' from Wembley 2015... Tuomas himself is longing back to his childhood and the innocence of that time. In many songs of nightwish you will be noticing that theme. When you hear words like 'Boy'/ 'Poet' / '(ocean) Soul' for instance, you can be sure it means a lot to him.

the song feels very different, mostly because they were made by 2 different singers, Ghost Love Score, it was made for "Tarja" it was more operatic, and Storytime, it was made for Anette, her style was more mysterious and creppy, "FLOOR" Here I had a few months before joining the band, as the third vocalist, which you can realize the vocal talent of "FLOOR" and be able to sing whatever she wants, of the 3 vocalists my favorite is "FLOOR" without a doubt, but of all the albums that "nightwish" has released, my favorites were those of "Anette"

I discovered Nightwish in Aug of 2021 watching reaction videos. And soon made a commitment to myself to see them live. May 2022, I brought by teenage sons down to Seattle, from Vancounver BC. We flew to Denver to see them. Dropped a good amount of $$$ for the trip, but was worth every penny.....Priceless, as they say. We were fortunate to be only 30' from the stage and Floor.
Seeing her in the flesh was mesmerizing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its a Metl concert, a place to go wild and have a great time. ...and we did. But there was also a part deep down that said, stay calm, be alert, don't miss a single word or syllable of Floor singing.....the greatest female vocalist on the planet. ...And YES!! the music was incredible. YES!! they are spot on playing live. Never a miss. True, world class, professional musicians and entertainers!
New Sub.......and can't wait to follow your Nightwish Journey.
[after you are ~15-20 songs in, take a side trip and watch a couple of Floor's solo videos. Take some time and watch her 'Fan Friday' series she did during the lockdowns. These are filmed at her home. You meet her annimals, her husband (drummer for the Metal Band, Sabaton', and young daughter. Once you learn how Real, humble and down to earth she is, you love her 10x more. ...further down the road, when you really get Floor and know her, you (not being a metal fan) might want to react to a few sons from her earlier bands: After Forever (joined when she was 16) and Revamp. Those bands were Metal! But Floor is still Floor. Its really cool to watch her when she was so young. It is clear even then that she had special vocal talent and you could see the budding charisma that shines through in her Nightwish years.]

Nightwish has over 100 unique masterpieces, and every song is the favourite song of someone and all of them tell a story and takes you on a journey if you just let them. Not all of the songs will resonate with you all the time, since they are so emotion invoking, but you will find out that when your life moves along, you gain new experiences and your emotional state changes, those songs that you didn't quite get before, suddenly hit you like never before and become your new favourite songs
This has happened to me so many times over the ~26 years (I was one of the lucky few who got introduced to Nightwish right from their leaked demo tape) that I have been a HC fan of Nightwish. Others bands come and go, but some part/album of Nightwish always stays constantly in my rotation and "safe place"

I think it's nice to see how you search for the right words to describe your feelings and impressions. ... After 10 years as a hardcore fan, I still can't really do it.
In my opinion, you should now also get to know the second voice of the band - Marko (bassist). That's why I'd like to recommend your new favorite song from Nightwish 'Romanticide'.

Excellent job! As others have said, you'll find that Tuomas' songs are quite varied in tone and texture with no two really sounding alike. Every new song is a surprise because you never know what to expect, and whatever you do expect is usually subverted. I think Everdream from this same Wacken 2013 show would be a good next step for you, though you really can't go wrong with anything from this show.

Great reaction again! Nightwish lyrics is very poetic. Tuomas(keyboard player and songwriter) is big Disney, movie music fan and he read a LOT nonfiction and fiction literature. This song is from 2013 Imaginaerum. Album big theme is imagination and storytelling. They also made
"Imaginaerum" full lenght fantasy movie. Their 2015 album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful take huge influences from Richard Dawkins book "The Greatest Show on Earth:The Evidence for Evolution". Enjoy your journey:)

I'd recommend next: Nightwish - Ever Dream [from the same concert]
    ...
And you could also check some solo work from Floor, and so... for that I'd suggest:
Let It Go - Frozen (cover by Floor Jansen)

As always, I really enjoyed your reaction. I love how you go into detail about how you feel about each song. Next Nightwish song? Let's go a little heavier and take a look at Romanticide. Banger of a song, and it's time you meet the second vocalist in Nightwish at this time, Marko. The video from this same concert - Wacken 2013 - is great and make sure you choose the one marked "correct speed".

Nice reaction. Tuomas, the composer is a story teller. He said in numerous interviews that every song he writes starts with a story he wants to tell, followed by the music.
It's brilliant that he came up with this song telling his story and then weaves in different famous stories. Peter Pan is obvious, but there is also the reference to Alice in Wonderland (follow the madness. Alice you know once did). Like @chadbennett7873 very well described, there are so many layers to Tuomas lyrics and music that it's never the same or boring. 🖤🤘🏼

The Imaginaerum tour songs many are based on the Nightwish movie of the same name Imaginaerum which the band acts on. The story is based on a dementia patient who is dying and reliving his past as a musician and his estranged daughter coming to terms about forgiving her dying father as he relives his past as an orphan there is something Dark that he had closed of in the past and is a very Disney'ish this movie is the only thing stopping this from being a childrens movie is that one Dark scene that ties the movie together on what made this man the person he is. Well worth a watch.

The crucial lyric, to me, is "the core of all life is a limitless chest of tales".
The whole show, from the tour supporting the album and Nightwish movie Imaginaerum, makes more sense if you watch that dark but emotional movie.
There are many more sides to the band for you yet to see.
Can't wait for Song of Myself and Ghost River (this concert), 7 Days to the Wolves (Wembley 2015), Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Dead Boy's Poem and Slaying The Dreamer all from Buenos Aires 2018.

I was just watching your 2Cellos video, another classical/metal blend I think you would enjoy is Nightwish's versions of The Phantom of the Opera, 2005 with Tarja and Marco and 2022 with Floor and Henk Poort. And for something a bit different, Lindsey Stirling Phantom of the Opera medley on violin with a rock band backing her.

She does what everyone calls the windmill and it take some correct posture. She had issues in her 20s and a doctor corrected her stance and how she holds her hands on her thighs while she does the head twirl. She was 32 and was doing the windmill a lot during this concert but Floor is now 42. I notice she does the windmill a lot less now that she's in her 40s.

I was really looking forward to your next Nightwish reaction. From the way you enjoyed Ghost Love Score I just knew you would appreciate the musical diversity that Nightwish brings.
Although written for the previous singer Annette who had a more “poppy” voice, Floor has really made this her own.
You have just witnessed Floor’s signature head banging move: as she’s Dutch it’s called the windmill!
I really enjoyed your reaction so I hope you keep going with Nightwish. You have so much to choose from. From the heavier “Romanticide from the same concert, to a beautiful ballad called “Dead Boys Poem” live from Buenos Aires or the folky “I Want My Tears Back” again from Buenos Aires.

You already seen the Catalouge of the nowatimes head Entertainer in YT Music like Dimash, Ren etc. I can only say, if the Vibe of the Band, triggering your Imagination, beeing into the insane quality of the Live performances, the interaction with the Audience gets you and more or less at the last Spot the Music(its always only as good as the Performers), then i would call it Sucess.
Like said on another review of Yours Lady, one USB Stick, two Folders, one This Concert Performance, the other actual E-Callboy Album, im just grinning all the Time in my Car, something like that and all of the Band you be happy, for sure:)

“It’s making my brain light up” is probably one the absolute best phrases about listening to Nightwish I’ve ever read. In university I did some papers about the brain and music and you are so right! Also that you mentioned circus like. If watch the original MV with Annette as the singer it definitely gives that imagery.
On a different note Storytime is so great for all the obvious reasons but it is my favourite one to watch Jukka (the drummer). He is always very dynamic when he plays but I just feel for some reason he enjoys this song even more.
I almost cringe when I see Floor do the Dutch windmill because I have a herniated disc in my neck and 2 compressed discs. I’d been in the hospital emergency if I tried that lol. 😂😂
“Hook” is one of my favourite movies. 😊
