Omg... To everybody with earphones be careful!!!!!!!!! The video is so quiet, I turned up the volume to the loudest and was listening in so carefully... but then in the middle of the video (around 6:12) came an ad that just ripped my eardrums off... That was really painful... Uff... Why?????
@ Yeah, I had tears too! I was in severe pain from hearing this beautiful duet being trashed!! My God, the mezzo had a vibrato of about a third, and Joyce shouldn't have used any vibrato at all! They must have rehearsed at least once, for all the musical sensitivity they displayed toward each other! Do yourself a favor and listen to Lorraine Hunt Lieberson and Mary Westbrook-Geha sing this duet! Don't get hung up by Sellars direction - some love it and some hate it! If it bothers you, just start over, close your eyes and listen to the music! I've listened to numerous performances of the duet, and none can touch what Lorraine and Mary produced; Handel would have been thrilled!!
So fascinating, if I remember correctly, they actually shared one role in one season: Adalgisa, at the Met. I actually prefer higher voiced Adalgisas, such as DiDonato or even Sumi Jo, even though they are rather rare, admittedly. Because Pollione fell for a young virgin, not a matron like Marylin Horne or a grand dame like Jamie Barton.
Yawn yawn yawn . There are more clear tones less precious and more volumed renderings of this out there . Seek them as this is a rather pallid toned performance IMO.
Amazing , thank you Jamie Barton and Joyce DiDonato . I love your voices ❤️🌹👏👏👏. Bravi
Joyce is the most beautiful voice in the universe !
WOW! Those two voices blend together is liquid gold! They blend perfectly together!!

Joyce and Jamie in the same video? I must have died and gone to heaven!

so beautiful, it makes me cry
I get tears, every time.

Brook Eggleston just for your information, they are BOTH mezzos. And if you didn’t know, the „Mezzos“ name is Jamie Barton😊.
Outstanding vowel treatment and partnership!
It’s a pity the video is ridiculously quiet.
Jamie's voice is so RICH i love
Thank you!!!! I'm so happy hearing this again.
Hope you'll share more from the Gala.

Adalgisa was actually written as a soprano role. Performance practice has gone in another direction.
Volume too low
Gorgeous
Crooning at its best.
Очень уж они обе нехаризматичные, и голоса невыдающиеся, сколько-бы ДиДонато не расхваливали.
Ну, да! Русскоязычные, как всегда, написали гадость..

I think she's hungry.
She has gained a lot‼️❤️
No soul at all
The recording is terrible, no volume!
