@@TheKingofAverage can i use the same color (mix of 3) on the dragon than on the base? i don't see much so differnece on the video. i juste finished the base (i did it before)
@@TheKingofAverage im a beginne,r i painted all monsters on lord of hellas and now i am starting to paint rising sun thanks to your videos. first one looks very good, this dragon will be the second one :)))
Colour wheel understandy person here, as far as highlighting the blue with yellow, it can give a very cool affect, however it's very contrasting and will direct your eyes there. So you may not want it on a base/details like this, as your main focus is to make folks focus on the dragon itself.
Bullet dodged then :D I think I simply needed to add more contrast by darkening (with black vs a green wash) the base coat. But as someone that only knows "warm" and "cool" colors, it's just me grabbing at straws to replicate the artwork :D
@@TheKingofAverage Definitely agree there! Keep up the great videos mate, I just recently discovered you and am having a blast watching your painting videos!👊
Probably your best paint job yet. I think you needed a couple extra shadows on the ice instead of trying to do brighter highlights to get the look you were talking about. I do that on my frozen bases. Do people really cry foul when you mix colors? No one complains on my videos, but I have been mixing since video one.
Well the artwork isn't dark anywhere, even me putting the shadows in like that kind of goes against it but I was trying to make it look "better" - still doesn't pop as much as I'd like it to. oh I don't know if people do per se, but I dislike custom mixing colors. For my viewers, it means more paints are required (3 instead of just 1) and they'll never get it exactly like mine, heck neither will I, so if you don't make enough and try to mix it again it'll be slightly off no matter what you do.
@@TheKingofAverage you and your faithfulness to the artwork haha. I feel like hate is going to be so boring doing them in their "correct" colors. They will all just be pale skin and brown leather. I have already started picking out a theme for each faction. I'm pretty excited to really experiment with the different story lines I can put on each tribe by changing their look.
i love this look for this dragon. I'll have to try that gel out for mine as I like what you did and it does hide the crease a bit between mini and base so it looks like the dragon summoned the ball out of the water and is floating on it. question on the dragon highlight though: do you recall if you went back over it a second time as suggested? can barely see it while painting but as it goes along it looks more defined. I'm also wondering if it's not hte same mix for the flames at that point as they look similar.
Glad you like it! :) I did go over it again and did add a bit of that teal color into it. Keeps him "cool" colored and tied it into the water a bit which I think helps frame and highlight the ball a lot, while also giving a sense that he might still be wet like he just splashed out :)
I use Tamiya Fine Surface Primer Grey - it's AMAZING. Super fine mist right out of the can every time. Every one of my miniatures has been primed in that (though I recently started using their white version on a few select minis.)
Another great job. I also want to paint my rising sun, so what advice can you give, what miniature is the best to start with? I really want to start with daimyos, but I'm afraid of messing up with them, as they are so small and so detailed. Should I go into details, or just try to simplify everything?
Slovian has a great pick for something quick and easy, but really I say paint whatever looks interesting to you. I'm sure you'll surprise yourself with the outcome and that'll launch your motivation into overrdrive :D
I'd echo King of Average on the 'do what looks interesting'. Worst case scenario you come back later and decide to re-paint it if you decide you want to try them again. The biggest thing though is to not let fear hold you back! Just go for it! You can always strip it or re-paint over it. It's one of the best things about mini painting!
Like your videos, helpful. Question, though are you going to do any from the Fallout expansion? and are you going to do any more from the Fallout Wasteland Warfare series? Would love to see you do a series on the expansion sets.
Awesome, as usual ! I'm still a bit afraid of all the dragons (especially the Fire one), so I didn't start them yet. I really appreciate what you did with the base, sculpting with Vallejo's gel. Maybe it's due to the light, but the blue of the fire seems to lack flashiness, compared to the fluo of the artwork. I also think I would have tried to have a gradient from base to top, and attenuate the blue color, as if the flames where smaller, hence less colored at the top. Not sounding pretentious I hope, because I really do appreciate what you did with this dragon. ;)
Funny enough I started with the Fire Dragon! :D Of the three he's probably the hardest but only because of the more "advanced" blending required on his tendrils. As for the fire, as I said, I wasn't *super* happy with how it turned out. I keep telling myself using yellow would have made it pop more but you are right, it doesn't stand out as much as it should compared to the artwork. In the artwork it's not dark anywhere, goes from bright to brighter :D
Yes, and I'm still stunned by your work on the Fire Dragon. The enclosed space between the ball and the Dragon seems like the hardest part for me. I know, right, I think I'll try to find a fluo blue-green to give it a try. I'm not sure adding yellow would have helped, I fell like your highlight with white on top of this blue-green reminds me of fresh-mint colors, and yellow on top of blue-green should give more of a dirty impression.
You must be one of those people that actually understands art :D I'm not one of them :P I think adding black to the shadow would have been better and just darkening the whole thing a bit more without shifting the color more green, but that's hindsight I suppose :) I appreciate the compliment! Never get tired of hearing them ;D
Looks great! I've been undecided about how to paint the one I have and you have some useful ideas. Hope you won't be abandoning everything else for Hate, cuz ya know, it's well, hate.
I want to paint one in a very lush and vivid green, some parts in a very dark green and the belly in a more light, beige color, with red quills and a red beard, probably yellow eyes (or maybe blue ones, but a very light blue). As for the ball, I love what was done in the video, but maybe I will do a stone like grey ball. I've seen some people painting the water as flames, and that's what I'll probably do, too.
Your painting videos have me on the verge of going down this amazing rabbit hole! I do have a question though... I hope you see this... do you use an organizer for rising sun, or are you still using the original plastic trays? I’d love to see more rising sun paints, but I’ve been binging all of yours!
A little late so you may have found the answer you're looking for, but broken token and Go7Gaming both have made organizers for Rising Sun. I prefer the Go7 more but I would take a look for yourself and see which one you think you would prefer.
yeah exactly, seems like an odd price point for about 30 minis, some small maps and cards and whatnot, but I assume you're helping pay for the development of the app as well -_-
You should Bethany! I bet you'd surprise yourself with the outcome :) Remember I don't have Average in my name for nothing, if I can do it then you can too!
Just go for it. I started last week and it is very rewarding and relaxing. There are some figures (Yurei) which I have struggled with and maybe I'll strip the paint in the future and try again but I'm excited to get it to the table and have something more than grey. I've never painted before and I'm very happy with two of the Oni that I painted so far.
@@TheKingofAverage thank you. I'm nowhere near as good as you but for only being a week in I'm doing pretty great. On average how long do you spend on a mini? In terms of hours?
