Nothing better than an old truck that’s pre dented and pre scratched that runs good and you can use like a trucks ment to be used! Way better than a new one you don’t want to even get dirty!!
Amazing Stihl saw!!! Can’t wait to watch this saw progress. It man thank you for genuine hospitality sharing this info along with people like Iron Horse and Bell Hopper. You guys have inspired me to finally buy he bits to begin polishing and porting a saw. I’ve done a lot of other work on carbs, converting saws to different pitch sprockets, lighter bars, exhaust mods, intake mods but you guys finally gave me the courage to begin porting. This weekend we’re going to baseline an old MS251 I need to replace the oil seals on and I’m going to begin by cleaning up the exhaust. After that probably trying to see what if any work can be done to cleanup the lower transfers. I also picked up a digital degree wheel to make sure I get numbers before I start. When it’s done I’m going to convert it down to 3/8p .050 gauge 16” with a Sugihara pro light bar. This weekend I’m going to get a before video and hopefully I’ll have the same log/branch for an after. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring people man.
Tinman, this is Walter Ervin and I just got your answer to my question on question of the day at 26:45 about the low and high jet adjust screws. Thanks for the reply. I well understand your explanation and will be able to accomplish what needs to be done. I'll be following along with what you will be doing on this 056.
Tinman, you are going to love that saw bought one new in 83-84 was making a living on the fog line of the redwood coast, cuttin redwood, Doug fir, sugar pine. 7 tooth sprocket 404 square ground chain. Has got stump power for days 36-42" bar not really a high winder. Ran it for a year and a half only complaint is the ignition went bad.Would love to see a complete rebuild and timimg # on it..
Tinman, the interjection about the socks and crocs had me dying laughing! Same as you, i also feel like i have way more wind in my sails this week. Only one reason could cause such an attitude for us saw addicts. Tomorrow my new saw arrives! FINALLY got ahold of a very minty sachs dolmar 120si! Gonna be hard to stay at work all day tomorrow knowing it will be showing up!!!!! :)
In 1990 my dad bought a brand new Stihl 056 Mag II. 93.6cc, 18.3 lbs., 5.0KW. I remember the first time I laid eyes on that saw I loved it. I remember bucking logs with it running .404 chain on a 24" bar. It was the saw I first experienced what it was like to have a tree set back on the bar and not be able to get the power head off because of the outboard clutch. Sadly it had ignition problems and spent time at the dealer. My dad traded it for the 066 Flat top in my avatar pic. 91.6cc, 16.1lbs, 5.7KW. That 056 Mag II is one saw I wish I could buy back. Really nice with a 30 or 32" bar. The one you have looks to be a 1990 as well. Definitely one of the great muscle saws. What a great gift!
Most of av mounts can be obtain, hardest to get is PTO bearing as it has some od size and also that crank seal gets installed inside the races, ignition is same as dolmar indeed Bosch. Good luck with the build they are lovely when running right.
Hey Tinman, great score! I've had mine for 38 years, stihl love it. Best balance is a 32 inch 3/8 bar and chain. Bucked and fell with it lots. You can stihl find some old stock parts with old time West Coast saw shops. I've done a coil, piston and rings, stihl have one set of rings packed up somewhere. They share some parts with one of the stihl cutoff saws (they show up as obsolete and unavailable for the 56 but are available for the cutoff saw). I've put together a few and stihl have enuff parts for 1 more good runner. Buckin would be a good source for finding old saw guys with dusty stock.
Noice!! Bucket list saw for me too👌 I believe 066-660 sprocket bearing fits… the early type larger inner bearing not the thick bearing of that makes sense👌
If you look long enough you can find parts. My dad ran 056s in the 80s and hated them all tq .he told me they were boat anchors, He would always use his Jon's 920 on on big trees that was his own saw. Under a Skagit 98 by him self still have it and it eats wood. 3rd rebuild I think.
Looking forward to seeing what you can do with the 056. It's a sentimental favorite of mine, next to the 038. One of my first jobs out of high school was working for a wholesale distributor for Stihl. At that time when we would have a dealer event at the distribution point, we would be running demos with the 056 and 038. They were quite the saw in their day, and likely still are.
Nice work Cameron, what a great present for Tinman/ addition to the channel! I am more of a Husky guy but as far as looks and CC's go an 056 Mag II is my dream Stihl.
Wooohooooo, lol. Right on Cameron. I have 3 of them and love the fact that Tinman has one in the shop now. Cant wait for the future of this saw. Flippin awesome.
If you bag the saw or whatever then put 2 more bags such that they make 2 halves and fill them you can easily get the items out and then you have a custom packing for future use.
Was that one made in Brazil? If you would like an illustrated parts list for that model let me know.i Best wishes and thanks for the content, you Canadians seem so upbeat.
Hi Tinman, that's a cool old saw. I'm currently trying to rebuild my Stihl 066 red light with a full wrap. So if you have any advice I'd appreciate it. Thanks and I enjoy watching your videos.
Your getting closer to getting a stihl thats a total animal. Not saying that one isnt but i cant wait till you get your hands on a true 066 flat top without a decomp. Itll change your life. Lol okay maybe not but true animals even an 064.

If anyone else ships things in the foam, you can use a pull wire for unpacking, or a bag for the top layer
Fine thread drywall screws are the easiest way to help the limiters fall off.
Yeah buddy. NICE
Awesome Saw !! FANtastic friend and supporter!! Lifetime find 👍⛓🪚👏 Rick
Clutch bearing porting and a pipe will be so sweet

Cool as hell, vintage old school big powersaw.
Noice!! Bucket list saw for me too👌 I believe 066-660 sprocket bearing fits… the early type larger inner bearing not the thick bearing of that makes sense👌
Saegenspezi in Germany carries lots of aftermarket parts for those old stihl saws

Great video mate Kevin down under Australia 😊
Kev!👌💪 hope u feel better buddy❤
They were BIG news in their day.
I’ve been looking for a Husqvarna 2100 to send to Tinman , no luck so far . I know he likes big saws . That saw looks fairly small in his hands 👍🇨🇦
I missed 2 of them the other day on marketplace....$100 for them and an old partner. I'm in Terrace too, Cameron
You're a good man thank you buddy
My first saw was the little brother to this saw, 045 AV, 75cc. That saw got me started and it still runs like a champ. Good to see a vintage saw!
I don't know if those saws are unicorns, but the bearings for them are.
Ask your friend to spray the foam into bags so you can get that out easily 😅
If you bag the saw or whatever then put 2 more bags such that they make 2 halves and fill them you can easily get the items out and then you have a custom packing for future use.
I once had a saw like that, I never could keep it from rattling apart like a darn Harley Davison !
The top covers always break.

o machado e a motosserra
entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia
a motosserra roncava machado velho tinia
e naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
e esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina

It's easy to see the compression it has ...a horse of a saw ...fix it up and I'll trade you my wife for it ...just kidding I wouldn't do you that way
Socks in crocks… no one real even cares. Wind in your sails… that’s what gets my attention!!! Now why don’t we ship in saw chips!? Throw a bit ‘o’ your cookies in there ya boot! We’re woodmen. No? Anyhoo thanks Cameron. I know you ment well 🪵
