- Here's my interpretation of "Bleed" by Meshuggah.
I always wanted to cover this song since I felt it was a milestone I wanted to reach. Also we lost the footage for the front camera on this take so we had to borrow it from another take to fill in the glitchy parts from the moving camera (it was during our first recording session so we learned from our mistakes).

Nice hair!
Awesome job man! How long did it take you to get it down? I know even Tomas said in an interview that it took him a very long time to perfect it.
Thank you! I really just learned the patterns over years of air drumming to the song. Then when I decided to cover it I spent like a month learning the transitions and building the stamina. It's a great song to learn for technique and speed!
Do you prefer sitting higher or lower for double bass? I'm 6'3 and like the mobility that sitting higher gives for my feet, but I also hate feeling so tall when I do so haha.
I usually aim for an angle slightly greater than 90 degrees at my knees. I think it depends on your foot technique a lot, too. I'd say get your stool and pedals set up on a practice pad or something and try a few different heights. That way you don't have to adjust the whole kit every time!
@@slrnoise Well said. Those quick 32nd notes can be a nightmare to perform if you don't have the necessary mobility. I'll try that. Thanks!
I'm busy learning this song at the moment, do you use a full motion with your left leg. I find that easier, but then when I get faster, I start using more of like heel down in the air.
I think you need to find the balance between power and efficiency for this song, particularly if you aren't using triggers like in my case. For me, my heel does stay relatively still and "in the air" but it does dance around a lot once I get into the groove. My right foot tends to swivel more but all of that is just natural, so find your comfort zone!
@@slrnoise Yeah, I don't use triggers either, I've been learning it since lock down, not sure if I'll ever learn the full song. But I can probably get to before the 7-7-5-3 part. How did you go about learning that, did you put 7-7-5-3 and then try and put a back beat on top of that.
@@charlesdubber I don't see it that way so I'm not even sure which part you're talking about! The secret to learning Meshuggah songs is understanding the patterns. Most, if not all of their songs are in 4/4 (a few might be in 3/4). Once you learn the pattern, you have to feel the 4/4 pulse and play the pattern over it until the 4/4 pulse restarts. There are no odd timings, only odd patterns!
@@slrnoise : Sorry yes, its a polymeter, the part is 7-7-5-3-5 repeated. Its from position. 2 min 35 seconds.
@@slrnoise : So just play a 4/4 and dry and get the 7-7-5-3-5 under it without thinking
Jesus Christ my guy
