What can you tell us about the Active Copper Cable interconnects that Nvidia is offering as part of its Networking solution under the Mellanox/LinkX brand?
VMware is finally adding native support for smart NICs and DPUs (aka Project Monterey). I think Intel is catching up quickly with it’s so-called IPUs (Infrastructure Processing Units). Very exiting time for networking!
Yeah, there's lots going on with loads of DPUs/IPUs in development from a lot of companies. In many ways a DPU is a SOC within a server and capable of some quite amazing things. - JG
It has been fascinating to watch [and be part of] the evolution of all these interconnect technologies over the past 45 years. One thing that seems to persist is Ethernet. I suspect we will have Ethernet in some form hundreds of years from now. In fact, in an episode of the original Star Trek series, Captain Kirk and Mr Spock steal a cloaking device from a Romulan ship that Scotty promptly installs on the Enterprise, voiding any/all warranties of course. Whatever Scotty plugged that cloaking device into looked like, I am certain it was called Ethernet. That's my 2 scents 💩💩😁
I'm just super sad about all the rumors that they gonna push cumulus over onyx even more. None of my tiny customers wants it. We picked mellanox specifically for the unique mix of performance and focus on necessary features. I wish they'd use their vast resources to make this even better.
Don't think anyone had explained this more clearly. Nicely done.

That they are bloody hard to get hold of.
Nice explanation
