I like the Karen O version but it doesn't hold a candle to this. For some reason, Daniel Johnston's delivery always makes me smile. He's so genuine. In a world riddled with stupid irony, his sincerity never fails to awe me.
Daniel Johnston was diagnosed with schizophrenia and manic depression after all of his drug-filled years. He's amazing and he doesn't let his problems get in the way of what he loves most. He's a huge inspiration to me and his music helps me get through my toughest days.
Seeing Daniel singing with all his might, passion, an everlasting sincerity, inspite of the quivers and trembles that his medications (probably) gave him...man, so touching, I am in tears.
Beautiful. Danny and i were friends as teenagers. I knew him before the element illness got a hold of him. I wish I could take him back and start those years over and some how change his path. I just seen him at the Joy theater in New Orleans. He still remembered me and we talked about being teenagers. To see how he has suffered and still does hurts me. I wish i could heal him.
I was at the front row at this show (Im very proud of that), and I was nearly in fucking tears. Thank you RockEnBen for filming, this was one of the best gigs I ever went to.
I would have bawled like a little kid. I heard this for the first time off Yip Music album and could hardly hear the lyrics, I played it back with head phones and it killed me.
this man is my complete favorite. im so happy i found him without kurts shirt. his music is even more special to me. but he gets me everytime. i just cant stop listening to his music. i could never. theres never been any artist that i thought could match up to daniel. my friends and family dont get why i listen to him. says he sucks and stuff. i think the complete opposite. everything about him, his music,the way he sings, his art, just him, is so true. i look up to this man 100%
When I heard Joy Division for the first time, a new musical world opened up for me and there haven't been many others that have done the same but Daniël Johnston certainly did. He's a great genius.
genius. we're all so lucky to have experienced this true artist. i'll never take his genuine love for creating art and beautiful songs for granted, ever.
none of his songs will ever be too long.. he is such an honest artist... with such honest creations... i cannot help but tear up every time... especially the part where he goes oh oh oh... painfully real
@ritter89 i don't take that as DJ stealing the lyric as much as it's a ode to one of his biggest inspirations. he's saying i did what i heard you sing. an ode from one living legend to another.
@Outlandish7777 He could be on some sort of anti depressant medication that depletes his dopamine levels which creates symptoms similar to parkinson's (shaking) Or he's just really nervous
Los temblores son un efecto secundario de la intoxicación por litio. También es común la pérdida de la motricidad fina en las manos, por eso ya no puede tocar la guitarra.
well i dont think i can agree totally with that comment. think about what u said, u said LYRICS and HEART are where its at...so then u said u hate homo justin beiber and shitty lady gaga therefor humanity and culture is dead? umm. well, if lyrical content is important to u, and i COMPLETELY agree w what u were attempting to say, how about u think for urself and make a statement worthy of your integral purpose. maybe it would make a difference in this world u despise
@bobethe Um, no. I do like the Doors, but literally every band you listed other than them are terrible, especially the Melvins and Pearl Jam. Not as terrible as this man though. I don't know how you got Slipknot from my name (I'm guessing you saw it and decided to open your dumb mouth). The Flaming Lips, early James Taylor and Bob Dylan is where I'm at. I also like how instead of defending your beloved Mr. Johnston you say nothing about him and start talking about grunge.
real rocker, no fake feelings, no money interest, just love and art.
Fuck mate! The apple brought me here and im glad it did! :((
He was always talking about money
That's okay though
He was just happy to be well off

"took me down a lonesome path...away from all welcome mats" :) love it. Song is fucking brilliant on so many levels.

Oh my gosh. You actually knew him. 😟
Take off your worried shoes, Daniel. You won’t need them anymore.
He died?????
Retro Unicorn Yeah, he died in September.
@@StewartTylerMay didn't even hear about it
This comment gutted me.
❤️

Heard it first from
Karen O. I liked her version because I could hear it better but yes. This one holds so much emotion.
Brilliant. I think this version is as touching, if not more, than the album version; perhaps because it's more vulnerable.
Man I remember watching this in High School! It was so sad. ):
"Then I knew the difference between loving and caring" - Daniel Johnston. Pure genius.
The difference between worrying and caring, smh
give him a mother fucking lifetime achievement award, jesus christ. this man is a tom waits
This song is too real. RIP Daniel. i hope that one day I can write a song that moves people as much as this one always moves me.
He died?! 😧
its inspiring looking at this guy sing, performing even when he can't stand straight

this song always makes me cry. he sings true one.

Love Daniel... When I hear this artist I still have a glimpse that some good hearts still exisists.
No Dan, the song was as long as it needed to be. Thank you for giving us your all.
genius. we're all so lucky to have experienced this true artist. i'll never take his genuine love for creating art and beautiful songs for granted, ever.

my heart hurts
Awwwwwww, well done!
Whats a wonderfull fight
oczarowało mnie.

@sweetblues97 or is it a response? Beatles say "You Took Your Lucky Break And Broke It In Two"
@Outlandish7777 He could be on some sort of anti depressant medication that depletes his dopamine levels which creates symptoms similar to parkinson's (shaking)
Or he's just really nervous
dude this guy fucking amzazes me, his music is so amazing :) lietterally makes me thing of so muchc
Just drips the authenticity and drips it's all over your cleverly constructed crap. RIP Sweet Prince.

Of course it's not too long!

@marcriganoskate oh, what is it?
Hi, how are you?
Fucking brilliant

This video just destroyed me
Los temblores son un efecto secundario de la intoxicación por litio. También es común la pérdida de la motricidad fina en las manos, por eso ya no puede tocar la guitarra.
I Love This Song, But Why Does He Keep Shaking?
;o
僕はダニエルの作る音楽が本当に大好きだ
@Outlandish7777 the condition he suffers from is know as Tardive dyskinesia,which is caused by years of Medication use.
wow
Wish the bell player could find the right key. Unless the dissonance is intentional.
I can't believe no one else has commented on that in 12 years
@Melthornal Oh, Okay.. Thanks. :]
@Outlandish7777 yeah if you take them long enough i guess.
Does anyone know what is wrong with his arm? (It looks quite serious)
@williemac1 Oh, Thanks. [ :
It's autentic, honest! No marketech...
i prefer his version to the Karen O one....he'd be cool to hear live!
@ejrt5 Well, you made it this far. You've probably heard of the Shaggs? :D listen to them and loot at yr comment again.
@thecapone45 I like all songs of Joy Division. Try Transmission, She's lost control, New dawn Fades and Love will tear us apart.
oooohhh
@ejrt5 FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!
@Melthornal no bipolar
Don't step on em
@1lowlife2many Joy Division and Daniel Johnston, fuck yeah. Johnston should collab with New Order. xD
@ejrt5 Yeah, and calling people "homo" and using words like "ur" is really grown up and cultured. Good one.
aaaaaaawww
i was afraid he was going to collapse the intire time.
@ejrt5 Perfect example Bob Dylan
@williemac1 Medicine can do that to you?!?!
No quiero crecer
does he have parkinson?
IamJacksColon4 no...it's a typical reaction to antipsychotics...it's a simil-parkinson adverse effect

lol it's like watching an elementary school recital
He's schizophrenic and manic depressive. His meds might do that.
