    This was a HUGE help. That stupid bolt that is BEHIND the bendix. Man, so stupid. The flats are key. Thank you!

    I'm glad to see someone else struggling 5 mins w the Jesus clip ( yes, we've called it that over 40 yrs so it's not new) u made me feel better lol bc that's the longest document removal of the Clip I've ever seen. Bottom line is the end is the same and that's what counts....btw use a blue handle 3/8 nut driver and hammer to whack the clip on in 1 smack, you're welcome

    Also everyone, I'd like to add that i had been having some trouble getting a new starter to turn my 24 hp briggs over and crank, here is what i both discovered and found out through others that posted online about similar problems. If you have a engine that the starter has trouble rotating to start (engine turns a half to one full rotation before the engine seems to lock up and the starter just humms) i found out on the briggs and stratton engines that the valves most likely needs ajustment as the exhaust ports are not opening up enough to let the compression buildup exit. It's easy to adjust them too. Hope this helps someone out there.

    It a T30 torques head and go get the T handle straight shaft. Just did my starter today of and on in 30 minutes

      I had a T30 bit and it didn't work on a Briggs 21HP Vtwin starter( I think its the same starter}, it was actually a T40. The straight thin shaft is a good idea as it's a pain to get to the RH bolt and even easier to strip because of the angle....Be very careful.

      This should be the top comment and on the main comment for this video. Use the correct tool. A T30 or T40 depending on your model and the starter is off in minutes once everything else is disassembled. I’m glad I found this comment, I was done in under 30 minutes! Thanks!!

    One thing I found out was to take the drive gear and engage it with the flywheel gear and turn the engine over a bit. That brings the drive gear up and out of the way so you can get your socket in there to break the bolt. I just bent the tin out of the way. It will go back in place. Another thing, if you have a drill press, or know somebody who has one, you can use it as a press to get that clip on. Thanks

    I improvised a 1/4 ratchet and a combination of a 1/4 socket with two 2 inch extension with the star on the end of it all and I was able to reach bolt and take out starter fell right off

      That's the best way to do things in my opinion. "Whatever way works for you" love it. Thanks for watching and the comment

    Put the starter in a voice, so it’s not flopping around or screw it to the side of the workbench

    Use a T-30 torx… a screwdriver 🪛 style with a square plastic handle, and use a Cresent wrench 🔧 on the handle to ‘snap-it’ loose. Same back together with a little loctite! Hee Haw!!

    • @colemant6845
      @colemant6845 2 роки тому

      It has to be a VERY thin neck 30 torx screw driver... and even then you are going to need to bend and force it in. The Cresent wrench works well. It is all bout getting that damn Torx into the bolt. Bad/Stupid design B&G.

    do you know where I can get a starter for the BS 20hp v twin engine?

    The worst part of the starter removal and replacement is that the Right side bolt is behind the Bendix? And need a tool? or parts number of the tools need?

      Best I recall I used a socket and extention. Been a while since I had to work on that mower. But best I remember they can also be gotten out w with a torx head. Not sure what size though.

      @@rodneysrepurposingrecyclin3821 T30 or T40 depending on model. Totally worth picking one up for this project if you don’t already have one.
