    Hi Wayne, great review. I heard you mention at the start there is no need to monitor the audio in 32b float! What if a cable was picking up interference or became detached from the recorder. There are many possible reasons why audio may not be clean. With no levels to look at or even with levels showing recording taking place I always monitor while recording. Thanks again for your video.

    I feel a little embarrassed to request This, but I have recently purchased the zoom f3 and have literally spent weeks of online searches to see an actual "how to" breakdown of the various functions and menu settings. I am someone who does an extensive amount of research and have experimented personally with the recorder and yet embarrassingly am still having problems navigating some of the functions and how to get from A-to b, such as best settings, tips, mix settings and importing into laptop etc..... Would you consider making a video walk through of the various buttons and functions and best tips you have discovered? Everything available on line are just reviews of the product. Thank you in advance!! This might prove to be very helpful for COMPLETE beginners starting from scratch! Have a blessed day!

    This is an excellent summary, thank you. I understand sync'ing a stand-alone audio track in DaVinci Resolve to a camera-recorded base audio track. Could you demonstrate how to sync an F3 track in DaVinci Resolve to the subject's mouth when there is no base audio track? And, like Leilasworld's comment below, almost every time I try the F3 I suffer from overlooking some setting. The awful result is I'm somewhat avoiding the F3 because, as she says, the hours-long research to make it work through all the steps kinda kills the project. The "just turn it on and record" instruction from the pros falls a little short for me.

    I believe new content creators are scratching their heads because of the comparison to RAW photos. Audio bit depth measures the range in decibels (db) a device can record (loudness). 16-bit audio is capable of recording sound with a dynamic range of up to 96.3 decibels (lawn mower). 24-bit audio recordings can capture a dynamic range of up to 144.5 dB (a jet take off). Meanwhile, 32-bit float audio can capture a dynamic range of up to 1,528 dB! (Which is greater any sound on earth! 😂) What directly affects the recording is the SPL (sound pressure level) of the microphone capsule.

      Does all mic can produce 32 bits quality tho, is it just recorder dependent or mic as well, can you elaborate your last point in easier to understand way?

      The Instamic is only available on the Instamic.io website. And even then, pre ordering is recommended as they sell out pretty quick when a new batch is released.

    Solo content creator here. 32-bit float has made life so much easier. No more guessing at levels and hoping they don't clip. I got a TASCAM X8 with the bluetooth adaptor. Wow! I can control my recorder, which is across the room, from my iPhone. I'm confident that the recordings will turn out fine. Yeah, I did fine before (most of the time) without 32-bit for years, but it's just made my job a lot easier today.

    Thanks for pointing out 2 things to me. 1. 32 bit float does NOT work for live streamers and the reason why. 2. 32 bit float does NOT HELP with plosives, and wind noise. The other videos I watched did say 32 bit float did not fix all the audio recording problems but they did not give examples.

    I have a hell of a question. When recording 32-bit float, does the signal "remain" 32 bit if I was to go line out into a camera?

    • @WayneRECs
      @WayneRECs  7 місяців тому

      As of right now, no. Typically, 32-bit float recordings are exclusive to the actual recorder. 32-bit float is a digital audio file format. When you take a 3.5mm TRS output into a camera, the 32-bit float recorder is sending an analog signal that the camera receives and then converts it digitally in camera (typically in 24-bit depth).

    Does the Zoom M3 work ok on top of a camera? I'm thinking of getting this for a short film with 2 actors in a fairly small room ( 4x4 metres max).

    I do 32 bit float all the time and it's just a huge quality of life improvement. It's not foolproof and there are limitations but it effectively lets me save so much time and steps in my workflow. I can do things without worrying about many things. To put it simply, I have other 24 bit interfaces but stopped using them once I went 32 bit float. I use the F6 at home and the F3 when I travel. I've seriously considered the M3 after watching your videos but I don't like that the mic isn't interchangeable :P

    • @WayneRECs
      @WayneRECs  Рік тому +1

      I know right! If Zoom came out with a 32-bit float version of their F1, that would be awesome! I like the sound of the M3, but it's design is a little cumbersome.

    • @Dracomies
      @Dracomies Рік тому

      I think that's the F2, no? F2 can do lav mics at 32 bit float. And with an adapter you can make USB shotgun mics have 32 bit float in a way if you have the adapter. But the F2 has less range I noticed.

    • @WayneRECs
      @WayneRECs  Рік тому

      @@Dracomies you're right! I was thinking more along the lines of the F1 so existing exchangeable Zoom capsules don't become obsolete lol!

    • @Rich1Rodriguez
      @Rich1Rodriguez Рік тому

      I think I’m going with the Zoom M4. Field ready using built in X Y mics, PLUS two XLR inputs, PLUS color display.
      If the M3 had a display, I would have preferred that. Even the F3 does not have a color screen.
      Downside is I will have to separately buy a hypercardioid pencil mic for my talking head videos. Small price to pay, I think.
      If Rode had a shotgun/pencil hypercardioid with built in 32-bit float I would choose that, but, alas, nosuch a device exists. Yet.

    I have an old, Rode sterio vdo mic with 3.5mm. Is it compatible.

  • @LEEKING2005
    @LEEKING2005 Рік тому

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't get why some people say the record will not be better. In my understanding, supposedly it will make the record more "lossless", right? Especially if you're using a hard to push dynamic mic for recording.
    I don't really care about the higher sound pressure ceiling, as that can be often overcome by reducing the recording level. But the lower sound pressure threshold and SNR could definitely improved by recording at louder level cause if a device noise is at -127db constantly, then less post amplification should definitely mean there is fewer noise.
    That is also the reason why they said it's common practice to record the quiet part and louder part seperately even in same song.
    I don't understand why no one commenting this throughout all the review I've seen for Zoom UAC-232. Is my understanding wrong?

    One qn,bro,: I intend to get one Zoom F3 for ambient/ Nature/ outdoors. But being a 32 bit float,how well will it handle,things like thunderstorm/ s ,high sounding etc.

    • @WayneRECs
      @WayneRECs  Рік тому

      The F3 would be great for nature ambience! The bigger factor would be the mics that you use with it. Thunder and other loud sounds shouldn't be an issue and 32-bit float is almost a necessity to be able to record sounds that don't give you time to set gain levels.

      After having a chat with a techie friend, who recommended 32 bit float to me, and watching lots of videos on the subject, it's useful if someone is shouting, and the audio clips, i.e. sounds all crap. Then you can recover it during editing. Or if someone is rather softly spoken, you can recover it, within reason, to a level where what is being said is audible.

      The only thing close to this to my knowledge would be the DJI MIC 2 transmitter (which records 32-bit float internally) and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and Action 4. Both cameras have a feature called "Audio-to-Video Sync" which I believe triggers internal recording on the Mic 2 when the cameras start recording.
