  • If your not into chucking away hundreds of dollars on a new Suzuki GSXR waterpump then this is a must watch video for you. Not only did I not have the time to order another pump and wait but I also wanted to save the costs associated with the purchase. I got busy, ordered the required seals and figured out the best way to fit them without owning a fancy pants machine shops press or fancy Suzuki tool. Check out how I made it work, using parts that cost pocket change, from a local hardware store.

    Great video, I followed the steps and got it done after a few tries. Thanks!

    Dear Sir. Thank you for this video / Dynabolt is a great way and idea. However, and without a vice at home and because I saw somewhere that the shaft is pretty tough. I decided to try without spacers etc when extracting.. Just push the shaft in and tap the rear of the shaft. If it is hot enough, will come out without much effort.

      @@BruceFurlong-GagaCulture i have already found the answer... the gsxr 1000 has the waterpump attached to the oil pump
      I have also counter the oil pump gears on the stock pump and oil pump gears on the clutch basket and they are about 1:1 with both having 39 teeth
      I have also counted the teeth on high pressure gsxr oil pump gears and the have about 36 teeth
      So in short it spins at engine rpm

    I just did this with a 3/8 dyna bolt (couldn't find 10mm), some spacers and a larger metal spacer i found at ace hardware to sit flush against the water pump face and washers. The trick is to put the water pump half with the mechanical seal in boiling water. Remove it from the fire and let it sit in the water for 5min. The metal seal came out way too easy. I bet you could actually just use pliers on the seal if you losen up the locktight on the mechanical seal like putting it in hot water.

    I got this lovely job to do, had oil coming from.the bottom bolt. I think its the o ring to the engine side, but could be inside the pump still. Do I replace them all while I'm there. Or do I just buy another pump lol. 24k miles and it looks pretty clean inside

    • @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture
      @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture  Рік тому +1

      It worth rebuilding the pump its not difficult to do the way I show you here. Replace all the seals with OEM genuine bits to avoid trouble. I would replace any O-rings also. Its a while since i did the job now so i don't remember all the bits encountered but those seals in the pump stop the oil coming out. The parts are bought as a seal kit with everything you need.

      @@BruceFurlong-GagaCulture yeah cheers. I mean about 70/80 quid for all the gaskets and 220 for a new pump from suzuki. I was debating just swapping the pump and saving the hassle. Pump looks pretty clean both sides. I suspect the o ring engine side.

    I rebuilt everything myself Just like you Like You are explaining on the video. at 1st it was fine then it started leaking a real small leak. Can you let me know if I need a new water pump?

    • @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture
      @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture  2 роки тому

      sorry for the late reply, normally if it leaks it means you either damaged the seal, used a non genuine seal or the shaft or mating surface have some damage( usually from corrosion or a mark). You can buy an aftermarket pump build for racing that better than oem and costs less if you need to replace it.

      @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture  3 роки тому +1

      I should have mentioned that. I bought genuine seals as they were not very expensive, and i got them at a local motorbike parts shop where I lived. They had to order them, but it was a next day delivery. TSS Motorcycles Wellington, tssmotorcycles.co.nz/ Any Suzuki dealer should be able to supply them.

    so i rebuilt my water pump and ordered the wrong oil seal. (Wrong part number on websites) The oil seal #09283-10004 is incorrect for 2007 gsxr 600
    The correct oil seal which is 10x22x5mm is part # 17461-01H00
    After rebuilding my water pump and noticing the oil seal is pretty loose and decided to continue rebuilding it. Only to still leak oil out the weep hole when i was done. Feeling completely defeated. But luckily i was able to find the info about it being the wrong oil seal and too small.
    I got a new water pump on the way as well as new seals. (oil seal/mechanical seal)
    Btw i didnt have a dyna bolt but i was able to remove the mechanical seal with a automotive seal puller. It took some heat and sweat but it did eventually come out.

  • @Beatfreax
    @Beatfreax 3 роки тому

    Do you have other suggestions for removing the mechanical seal?

    • @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture
      @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture  3 роки тому +1

      You have to use a bolt with big washers or a puller. You should heat the seal as it has blue loctite holding it in place. it takes quite a bit of force to pull it out. Heat helps melt the loctite sealer. A motorbike shop will be able to remove it if you unsure about it. That should not cost much to do.

    And another question my friend..I have to drain the coolant and "oil " before to remove the water pump???

    • @franzzacherl9391
      @franzzacherl9391 Рік тому

      coolant, yes... oil, no. if you have it on a motorcycle stand, then it also works without draining the oil. if the motorcycle was filled with a lot of oil then a little runs out. but you should not put it on the side stand.

  • @yahvesparrow

    And another question bro .. do u think in ebay or Amazon can get the pieces ?

    • @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture
      @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture  2 роки тому +1

      You can get the parts online, just be sure to buy oem parts as other people had trouble with cheaper aftermarket parts. There is actually a aftermarket pump build for race applications that's better than oem, but I didn't have time to wait for one to arrive.

    • @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture

      M10 30mm dynabolt worked for mine. It need to be long enough to just fit above the housing and tight enough in the hole that when its tightened it will pull the seal out. They can be purchased at a hardware store for about a $1

    What’s the symptoms of bad water pump..would it leak engine coolant in the oil ? Would your bike smoke?

    • @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture
      @BruceFurlong-GagaCulture  3 роки тому +1

      A leaking seal can leak coolant into the oil but its unlikely. The bike would not smoke from this issue though. If you have oil in the coolant and your bikes smoking and not running 100% then you might have a failed head gasket. There are tests you can run to check for this but you would need some test gear to run them. Bad water pump issues are normally obvious as the seal fail and it leaks oil or coolant out of the back of the pump and on occasion both leak out at the same time.

      @@williamroy91 How bad is the smoke? If its fallen on its side oil can move past the rings and cause a huge smoking issue, Other things are worn rings but this can be checked with a compression test and of course sitting idle for a long time is not always good as the rings can not sit against the bore walls properly until its done a few ks. I would not worry too much unless after a few decent rides its still doing that same thing. MY CBR250RR and CBR400RR both smoked when started up after they had sat for long periods of time but it did settle down once they were being ridden. Cools bikes the 750s, I still miss riding mine.
