Hi Don, Thank you for this in-depth 3 part tour of your layout. Your layout is a true master piece and looks like it would be a lot of fun to operate. I first became aware of the Maine Central through the pages of the popular railroad magazines during the GE U18B and EMD GP38 era. The MEC always seemed like a neat operation and now thanks to your wonderful layout that history is preserved in miniature form for those of us like myself, who never had the opportunity to experience the line in person. Cheers, Rich S.

Thank you for your kind comments. I have always felt that the Maine Central during the Spencer Miller era was a class act, at a time that many other railroads were falling apart.

You are doing a great job with the videos on your layout. You make us feel like we are there. I have to say, being one of the lucky ones to operate this railroad at times you have put together a serious railroad and that the same time a place to have fun. Keep up the good work Don.

It may finally be reasonable to look forward to some op sessions again. The light at the end of the tunnel is 1/87 scale?

Don, thank you for sharing this outstanding railroad. I’ve been to most of the places you depict and you’ve done a fantastic job of capturing the flavor of those locations. Your layout is what my layout wants to be when it grows up!

Very nice, I always enjoy seeing your layout. I was actually shocked to know that the Maine Central had articulated locomotives, that is just fascinating to me. Thanks for the little piece of history

Thanks, you too! The MEC 2-6-6-2's were acquired from the B&M in 1912. There were only 4 of them.

Howzit : MUCH appreciation for your informative and scenic viddy's of a GREAT Layout. A question : In days of ancient yore ( 70's ); out here in the Colonies ( ! ) we only had PECO Code # 100 ( HO ) and used Kadee couplers and related / compatible Code # 100 magnets for OpS. Installation of the magnets on-top-of-the-ties as secured by a light adhesive was easy; hassle-free and worked well. My current two Layouts ( HO North American : GFR : Complete / N+SG : Under Construction ); have PECO Code # 83. The problem is that in having tried to carry out the same on-top-of-the-ties installation of related / compatible Kadee Code # 83 magnets; most ( If not all ); of both Steamers and Diesels bottom-out on the magnets. To now go back and cut recess-slots in already ballasted track for the magnets around the Layouts is gonna be a MAJOR mission / undertaking. Uncoupling-Picks are used; but accessibility in some places is an issue. What Code rail and magnets are you using for your OpS and how are your magnets installed .... On-Top-Of or Slot-Recessed ? Many Thanks and Regards / Johnny Everitt ( Durban : South Africa )

All track is code 83, mostly Atlas flex and a mix of Atlas and Walthers switches. I use the standard Kadee non-delayed magnet recessed into the ties with a cylindrical burr in a Dremel tool. A little practice and you will find that it sounds worse than it is, and you can do one in just a couple of minutes, almost by ear! You can count the "zings" the burr makes on each tie, and about seven ties is usually about right. I set my magnets using a Kadee gauge for height, but you will find that even with the rail top works just fine. The ballast really doesn't get in the way of the operation, but does make a bit more of a mess to vacuum up. I mention this in the Kadee coupler video.

@@HappyHoboTrains Greetings : Your Comments and Guidance Surely Appreciated. As I Suspected; Unlike The Easy-Going; Above-Tie Placing Of PECO Code # 100 Magnets; One HAS To Recess Their Code# 83 First-Cousins * Below Sea-Level * ! ! Regards and Cheers For Now / Johnny
