If your chainsaw won't start one of the common issues could be that it is flooded. Using my Dolmar 7910 I demonstrate how a chainsaw is flooded and how to unflood/start it.

@@AlexAlex-rz5mz I tried to look it up for you and I think all husqvarnas have autotune, but not 100%. I have a 435. I'd give it a try. I had to cut this branch up as it was huge, the size of a tree, so I just gave it a try and it worked! Good luck!
I have a brand new husquvarna that I was ready to toss into the trash. Didn't know anything about flooding. The last time it did this it cost me $80 for the repair guy to give me some bullcrap story about all the things that was wrong with it (even though I used it for 5 min out of the box before I unknowingly flooded it). I took 5 min to watch your video and got this thing running in 30 sec. you saved me $80! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I spent the entire day trying to get to the bottom of this and your video was the answer. The saw was probably already flooded from sitting around for some time - and my putting the choke on only made it worse. I now understand that if the saw does not start after a couple of pulls with the choke on, there is no point in keeping the choke on, or you will just flood the engine (I thought I had to have the choke on until the engine would begin to shows signs of starting - this is what the manual said!). My son held the throttle and I pulled the cord, with the choke off, and the saw started almost immidiately. Very big thanks!

Great Video! I had the same problem, I tried pulling the spark plug, clearing the cylinder, replacing the fuel, etc.. after an hour of trying to start my stihl, I decided to check YT and I found your video. I switched the choke off, and attached a tie strap to hold the throttle wide open. After 6 pulls it started and I let it run full throttle for a few seconds then removed the strap. Thank you.
thanks for posting. i usually just let it sit for 15-30 mins but it kept winning the battle to not start.i even took out the plug and dried the dampness between the plug gap with a paper towel. i tried your method and it was a success. about the third pull and away it went. thanks.
Thanks so much. My Makita 6421 was driving me crazy today by not starting. It was sitting for a while ( maybe an hour) after I ran it and I decided to choke it and pull. It didn’t want to start at all after that. I even pulled the plug and changed it. Didn’t look wet really either. Still didn’t start. Fortunately there were other people with working saws. Could go to sleep with this thing not running, so I watched your video. Didn’t coworker right away , but I got one pop out of it then nothing. Pulled the plug again , aired it out a few minutes, made sure the plug was dry, put it in with the string on the throttle and she started up. Finally! Another Thank You!! My Makita 6401 periodically floods and a piece of velcro cable strap on the throttle worked great - started in 2 pulls! I slid the velcro down out of the way and left it on the saw handle for next time.
TY! This worked for me. A piece of duct tape loosely placed on the trigger and about 20 pulls got it running like a champ. Warning: whatever you put on the trigger to hold it down better come off easily as the chain will be running full blast.

Thank you. I can't tell you how appreciative I am of this video. I've always been into computers & am now a network admin [the point being I've never been much of a tool or mechanic type of guy]. I also deal with hyposmia, which is a reduced ability to smell things. So, the portion starting at around 1:56 showing where the fuel will sometimes run out in the front of the chainsaw [from what I think is called the muffler?] was incredibly helpful, as was the advice of squeezing the trigger while pulling the starter rope. I had been trying various things to get my CS-400 to start for like 30 min to an hour before I got frustrated & decided to come inside & see what I could find online. Found your video, grabbed a velcro strap, headed back outside to wrap the strap around the trigger & got it going on like 4th-5th pull.

That is a very good tip, and one I love using when working with my saw that works. What makes the rope hard to pull sometimes, and the reason I ask that is because the saw I just got back from the repair shop is hard to start because the rope don't pull out like it should for me.
The rope pulls, but only real slow, and only so far with each pull. I have two saws now doing the same thing. I just got a third saw out of the shop yesterday ( Wednesday), and it is working just fine. The other two are worrying me and one is an older saw which don't have the safety feature to keep the operator from hurting themselves like the two newer one.
I always pulled the cord half a dozen times with the switch off,choke off,and not pulling the trigger.on really bad flooded saws I pull the plug and dry it off by burning it with a lighter.i know that may sound crazy but I was taught that years ago and it seems to work ,but it could just be dumb luck,lol.have you ever heard of either of those methods.

Ah perhaps I should install a kill switch because now when I shut it with the choke I just cant start it any more at all unless I give it starter fluid
What if there is fuel in the saw and it's been turning over several times all day long and then it stopped running it's been a while since I last cranked it we can pull the cord on it but nothing happened it will run but shortly after it will stop middle of the times when my dad would try to use it any advice
+erin averyt you might have problems with the carb where it is allowing too much gas to flow in the saw. Look up "chainsaw carb rebuild" fairly easy to clean and rebuild
"Dolkitas" have a different starting procedure to most chainsaws...they are very easy to flood if you do not know the correct start method. Once you know the procedure you will not flood it again.
@@KimballCody well that would make sense why a new carb still didn’t fix it. It really kind of sucks, I got the saw from Egan I’m not bad mouthing him in anyway shape or form because when it’s running the thing is INSANE! I’m just trying to figure out if it could be something simple I’m over looking.

I'm glad I could help. I've found that a few of my saws will start without a choke. Its always worth a few pulls off choke to see if it'll pop

I always try to start it without the choke. If I drive up in elevation I find it floods easy. It usually starts on first pull.

What if it still stalls after you finally get it started?
You'll need to adjust the H screw. Turn in clockwise till it stops than turn in counter clockwise 360°

Simple way to hold full throttle is to stick your boot in the handle and lift the throttle with your toe

Same technique works for a trimmer or back pack blower.

Called a diaphragm carburetor the engine pulses a diaphragm.
