Context, from CBS News: "A for-hire driver taking three women to a medical appointment led New York City officers on a chase through the Queens-Midtown Tunnel during rush hour, according to NYPD. Officers tried pulling over the man's Jeep during an operation targeting vehicles with "ghost plates" on the Queens side of the tunnel at around 9 a.m. Thursday, police said. The driver took off and entered the tunnel with officers in pursuit, police said. NYPD dashcam video shows officers maneuvering around the Jeep and boxing the driver in. The driver, identified as a 33-year-old man from the Bronx, was eventually forced to stop. Police said the man's Jeep had active registration suspensions for unpaid tolls and parking tickets, a fraudulent paper license plate that was purportedly issued in Georgia and was uninsured at the time. Police said the man's license had been suspended seven times. He was later charged with assaulting a police officer, unlawful imprisonment and reckless endangerment. The women, who are from Westchester and Putnam counties, told police they called a medical transport company to book a ride to an appointment in Manhattan that morning. They were treated for minor injuries at a hospital in Westchester, police said. Two officers reportedly suffered minor injuries while trying to arrest the driver in the tunnel. " Opinion: This dude needs to be locked up for a good long time. He's a danger to society, outstanding job NYPD!
A few observations from this video: at 0:21, this officer coming in the middle of traffic was not a smart idea, he almost got run over by another officer inside a cruiser. Not the best situational awareness. The arrest made at 1:53 was excellent, great communication skills amongst officers and good de-escalation, no shouting, gunpointing, throwing suspect to the ground, no tasering, very effective arrest. Overall, great police work, I just hope the officer at 0:21 pays better attention to incoming traffic next time. To catch a criminal ten seconds later isn't worth losing a life over it.
To be fair to the officer, there are several lanes and several vehicles with sirens on in pursuit. The multiple sirens would have reverberated all over thje place, making it difficult to identify the direction of the sirens. The lines of sights were not the best either.
@@ycplum7062 That's true, I agree, and I am not trying to blame the officer, it's just an extremely dangerous situation he put himself into, but I think we can all agree that there are multiple lane switches and changes and the sirens gave him a clue to move out of the way, which he did. And we can also agree that dangerous situation an officer put himself into is also caused partially by the suspect's actions of fleeing and eluding.
WHAT? The highway before the tunnel is the Long Island Expressway. There are 100 places you can enter it from. The nearest toll bridge from it is about 13 miles away. You clearly aren’t from NYC.
MEAHWHILE as most of the NYPD and State Troopers were in the tunnel persuing the Jeep, three little old ladies were robbed, two bodegas were held up, a perp walked out of a precinct, the Police Chief under investigation was allowed to leave town and the Queens midtown tunnel traffic was backed up to 10th Avenue......
It is a tunnel. Don't they have a procedure to radio the other side to block the tunnel? I am thinking a truck loaded with water that can be driven across the exits.
Passing on the right and taking out barriers just to speed to the front and do absolutely nothing. Nice. Glad to know we have these drivers on the road
Because NYPD is the most corrupt pd and they are used by corrupt mayor to work for corrupt MTA instead of working against real crimes. Imo, if you are new York resident you should not be paying such hefty tolls. This is robbery by MTA.
Repeat offender status and intentional falsification of vehicle registration (fake tag ostensibly from another state) shows he most definitely knew what he was doing. My apologies if you were being sarcastic, it's difficult to determine over text.
Haven't seen a good NY Pursuit in a very longer time especially someone was caught with a ghost tag.
Damn they even got the Transit van in pursuit 😂😂

Habitual offenders are the ones that really need the "correction" in the corrections system.
I find humor in someone running into the tunnel, I mean its a tunnel and the police know exactly where it ends up.
there were so many clues but he had to do what his passion told him to, drive illegal taxi in nyc
45 minutes later he was back home chilling
I didn’t know you could run over those little poles 😂. Does anyone know what they’re made of? They look solid yet obviously bendable
plastic, same mat as traffic cones
instant 5 star wanted level
Remember the little red button .. push the little red button .. but you might wanna put on a seatbelt
Those women are fools for getting in a uber with a fake paper Georgia plate knowing that every NYC Cab is required by law to have a TLC NYC plate.

The guy should have had a 2020 Porsche 911 GTR 💀 he could have did 190MPH in that thing
So grand, so majestic yet so douchey. One was finally fucking caught. Hood mobile.
Yet they were so very PC as to obscure the identity of the driver. Of course you know who it was.
@@anonymousplanetfambly4598 he was definitely White LOL
Imagine if they would have done a TVI in that tunnel
To get to this tunnel, the driver would have needed to use at least three other toll roads/bridges. So they were planning to steal 8 tolls that day.

Yeah this guy’s chatting shit. It’s obvious they weren’t approaching from the Jersey side
@@TEMPLE7D the guy drove from Newburgh, genius
@@rb810810 Did you know you could drive from Newburgh to NYC without using tolls? I guess not, genius.
@@TEMPLE7D How would you get from Newburgh to the MANHATTAN BOUND QMT without paying any tolls?
At least he was using his signals
One thing I won’t play with is state troopers😂😂
Wowww
Those bollards never stood a chance....
I don think they sent enough units.
How stupid was the driver? Did he assume he would just get away?
Let’s go get em boys
The tunnel did him no good. nypd is easy to eavde😂
Yeah they kind of have no pursuit policy, you see them chasing him right here cuz it’s nypd highway patrol they the only ones allowed to chase.

So, is your position they should ignore that crime because other crimes are happening?
@@mrsleep0000I don’t think so but the response does seem excessive. Like there’s too many cops with nothing to do yet they miss on a lot of big crime.

Oh shit
I guess the driver won't be getting a tip for the ride.....
May I know the reasoning for the driver’s arrest?
Fake Plates
The arrest would be for fleeing since thats a felony, assault on a police officer is a felony
is this a parade? lol

why are all these cops just chilling at a tunnel entrance to begin with? Must've been like 40 cops there, they're just checking license plates?
