The Phantom Ring is an awesome idea, and one I unknowingly copied when I made my character from that universe. I've always been a fan of the different lanterns, and wondered what would happen if you could tap into all of the emotional spectrums at once and, if so, how that would be accomplished. So I thought of the Prism Ring, a ring made out of a clear, crystalline substance, that would act the way a prism does and break the 'white' of the emotional spectrum (not Life, but basically like white light) into the various singular emotions. Then the wearer could tap into each of those emotions individually, or even combine some of them (Hope and Will, Fear and Hate, etc.) to use however they wished. The power battery would, of course, be a large crystal. And to activate the ring you would have to say this oath: With Fear and Hope, Love and Hate. With Greed and Compassion we Will create. Our emotions aligned, our fate we make. Our power unleashed, Prism's Gate! I've only created one character in that 'Corps' so far, I haven't really thought out the particulars of the home world or anything, but I have some idea on how the rings would choose a bearer (basically the same way the rings do now, just with people capable of mastering the entire emotional spectrum).
Your Idea really is very good and creative. But the concept has already appeared not just in the form of the phantom ring, but also in another form. In the Planet of Apes Crossover the same Guardian who created the phantom ring created another. The Universal Ring. Basically your idea of tapping into all the colors and even being able to combine them, but it also has the ability to infinitely clone itself. Your idea is the better imo
In Blackest Day or Brightest Night Watermelon, cantaloupe, yadda-yadda A superstitious and cowardly lot _With Liberty and Justice for All!_ D-did I do it? Do I get the ring now?
Nope! To be a lantern you have to have a strong emotional attachment to someone or something you know. you must then watch it brutally and horribly die right in front of your eyes until the image burns into your mind so that you can never forget what happened, and depending on how you respond to the death of said attachment you will know whether you get a ring or not. Also you must listen to guy gardner sing baby dont hurt me, and baby, baby for 365 days straight no pee breaks or snacks. XD
Honestly with that, I like the thought of it going like the Arkam universe where Joker fears being forgotten because that makes sense for a guy who just does insane shit on a whim. The Joker is someone who seems to want to get bigger and badder with his schemes so to me, he seems like the type who'd want people to remember him because he can kill as many people as he wants, and what does that accomplish if people stop caring and forget about him? This is also why I think it makes sense for him to actually be afraid when Punisher attempts to kill him, because he's not afraid to die, he's afraid to die in such an unspectacular way as its not Batman going against his morals, finally breaking and killing the Joker, its some lunatic with a gun who is about to shoot him in the head and so instead of breaking the Dark Knight or the Man of Steel like he did in Injustice, his legacy at best would be another notch on Punisher's list of kills and he'd likely be forgotten after that. I think that is about the only fear Joker could have because he's clearly not afraid to do any number of disturbing things so anything that makes him meaningless, forgotten or pointless would probably be the thing that does it.
Hey Rob this may be a bit out of no where but I just want to thank you for your videos and the work you do. I go through bouts of clinical depression and anxiety, and your videos really help to mellow me out and calm me down when I'm going through rough spots. Your work goes further than you know. Thanks again man, and keep doing what you're doing.
As much as I love comics, this shows why I am a bigger fan of manga. There's one writer so you don't end up with all these changes to continuity made by other writers.
having multiple writers has its pros and cons. take a series like fairy tail or bleach for example, both have an interesting premise and a lot of potential, but were poorly written by the authors. with comics, writers are able to build upon each other's ideas and make something special that just can't be done with a single mind.
bluhmer1990 well you're right but they usually explain it in a logical way or just make a reboot they could say that this was caused by the new 52 and that's it problem solved
I've always loved comics but thanks to you, you make me understand so much more of the DC and Marvel comics. THANK YOU CE. Now i'm planning a trip to the next comic con with my friends
thats what bothers me the most..the whole concept of the phantom ring is basically a white lantern ring, that everybody can wield. And I also dislike the change of the continuity in regard of how the green lanterns were made...it was the fact that the guardians screwed up with the manhunters and than they screwed up the lanterns, that they were this council that was in some point evil...now they are redemed, what makes the first volthuum ark pretty much useless
I consider myself a classic content fan and I just felt a need to let you know and to say thank you. Both for the educating of new fans as well as reminding us of the details of why we fell in love with these paper champions in the first place.
The second with a military background that he might have heard about? A stretch, but military men occasionally fall out of the loop on things, especially when a huge amount of those exploits occur off planet. It would have been interesting if this kind of character was chosen as a blue Lantern ("hope") and the comic explored a lot of interesting ideas with that. Hope sometimes leading to the ugly side of wish fulfillment, and a not yet deserving getting what they want in a fresh way from fresh angles and side step all the tropes of "getting what you wish for".
Long time viewer; first time commenting (on any UA-cam video since its inception.) This informative video is the first time I've found out what exactly happens in the new GLs series. I don't know a lot of people reading it (besides Aaron at A Comic Shop in Orlando, FL), so was exactly what I needed to discover while driving home late from my job. Geoff Johns' GL brought me back from a four or five year slump. Each volume/series was a fine example of what makes comic books better than any other form of entertainment. That said, I--like many of your viewers--will likely pick up the collected volumes of this particular series. I'm a big Sam Humphries fan. CITIZEN JACK is incredible. Love his AVENGERS A.I. story as well. (That book was super-underrated.) I find it incredibly interesting that he changed some of the GL canon regarding the order of 2814 Lanterns. The whole idea that the Manhunters weren't the first "space police" is a bit odd. I wonder if this was an editorial decision because they've got big plans for VOLTHOOM, or if Humphries wanted to shake things up? Either way, this series intrigues me. Thanks for all the hard work. I'm at the shop buying books every Wednesday., but funds keep me away from certain titles. There a few recent videos that have kept me in the know. Your contributions to informing the uninformed about stories (including the recent ones) is appreciated. Thanks again. - @_mattdesimone (Twitter)
Well all of their members are criminals that have been pretty much forced into extremely compassionate beings, there was an arc about it a while back. Once they lost the rings they were out for revenge.
Omer Aliuddin yeah I know, still compassion has been shown over and over to be the only emotion that is incorruptible. So incorruptible it can take the worst people in the universe and make them inherently righteous
I don't know that people are super attatched to the current lantern backstory. Neither backstory especially explains why the hell the spectrum embodiment of love was something only girls could use, and to evil ends. Whoever wrote that must have been going through a breakup.
Dude for the past few years the green latern stories have been just killing it. Absolutely amazing storytelling and development. I'm honestly falling in love with them. Keep it up, and ROBCORE!!! AWAY!!!!
In fearful day ,in raging night With strong hearts full our souls ignite When all seems lost in the war of light look to the stars for HOPE burns bright!
red lanterns have to be my favorite its just pure raw rage i just want a good one like razor from the animated series who uses rage for good not guy gardner. i want to see a red lantern be apart of the justice league itd be awsome
The best thing about Jessica Cruz is that she is almost dominated by her own fears and anxieties, which is something a lot of people can sympathise with - but that she is someone who is shown to be able to overcome that, to the point that this is why she has a lantern ring.
Rob, I agree that the Green Lanterns stories have been expertly written and the art is fantastic. I don't mind the minor retcon and the GL Corps being a response to Volthoom, especially because he was one of the secrets of the guardians. So it kinda makes sense that this response wasn't known until now. And as for your question, I'm a Green Lantern all the way. This choice is mainly because of their harnessing and use of willpower as well as overcoming fear. It's something I use on a daily basis, so I see the members of GL Corps as a kind of role models. PS - I have a lot of hopes in Jessica Cruz and how she will play out in the greater landscape going forward. I think she could be the greatest... well, second greatest... Green Lantern ever. Time will tell
Blue Lantern Corps is my favorite! Their symbiosis with the Green Lantern Corps is pretty awesome (true hope requires willpower to succeed), and the fact that the universe is imbalanced because of their low numbers over in the Hal Jordan series speaks volumes to their importance. Odym also has some pretty cool wildlife, and Saint Walker just seems like a nice person.
You have to consider that when Kyle Reiner became a White Lantern, he was accepted into every corps which is how he gained all of their power. This means that he was not accessing the emotional spectrums directly, but through the power sources of those emotions. When Frank got the Phantom Ring, he simply tapped directly into whatever emotion on the spectrum he was feeling, no need for power sources or batteries of any kind, but also no limit on how much of any given emotion he feels while accessing it. I don't think he would be capable of being a White Lantern, but for someone who already was one, it would indeed likely return them to being a White Lantern, though in my opinion I think they would be a much more powerful version of the White Lantern since there is no buffer mechanism.
Kytoflame No if I remember it can't tap into Life and use it on the same Degree as the white lantern since The white lantern Ring can literally Warp Reality on a pretty Major degree
12:50 He said Marvel heroes are never held accountable to people and the government and to themselves as heroes. Wasn't the whole plot of Civil War 1 about being held accountable via government control...?
dolphinboy152 it was but then everything about the civil war was completely forgotten. the Superhero Registration Act was never really mentioned after civil war ended and no mentioned Goliath or other heroes that died during the event
dolphinboy152 he means consistently marvel hero's don't have to deal with the government really while DC hero's Have to consistently I mean hell The JLA was Formed specifically do if the JL ever went bad they would have a counter the government always Is doing shit like that
Re: the order of Lanterns. I believe that, yes, Guy Gardner was the second human after Hal Jordan to "get" a ring, but he largely served as a backup for Hal and was not permitted to serve at the time. Then Guy got into an accident which left him unable to serve. That's when, during Green Lantern/Green Arrow, John Stewart became Hal's backup, but was allowed to serve due to events going on. Stewart was very public with his superheroics, even forgoing having a secret identity, so it makes sense that Laminski would think that Stewart was the second GL. Guy was kind of low key as a Lantern, especially when he fell into a coma that he would wake up from until Crisis on Infinite Earths. A faction of the Guardians restored Gardner and tried to have him complete a mission for them. Gardner continued to serve as a GL, finally becoming very recognizable in public during Legends which led to the formation of the Justice League International. The fact that by this time, Guy also decided to forego hiding his identity helped with that.
I really hope dc rebirth bring back The spectre and make him look more epic and he is more powerful and got new ability 😊. And I really hope The spectre storyline be more amazing
I think the white lantern ring lets you choose which kind of light to use, you're in control, you decide if you want to use red, green, blue.. it's also easy to revert back to neutral white light. Oh, and you can use white light too. With the phantom ring.. I think *it* is in control, not you. It constantly scans you, and as soon as it detects one of the 7 emotions of the spectrum, it turns you into a member of that core. And it does so constantly, and you have no choice in the matter. I can see why that would make you crazy after a while..
Also, it seems as if every emotion the Phantom Ring switches you to, you feel an intense burst of that emotion in particular. When Frank got angry, he got viciously angry. When he got greedy, he got psychotically greedy. When he got hopeful, he got overwhelmingly hopeful. It seems like what Rami was saying about there being no barriers or buffers between you and a direct connection to the emotional spectrum essentially meant that every time you accessed an emotion, you accessed ALL of that emotion whether you intended to or not. At least that's how I interpreted it. Upside means it never has to be recharged, downside means you'll probably go insane from the raw power alone.
I have those feelings of being second best. I'm 22 right now; from freshman year i was the best at reading plays, i could watch film and tell you the proper setup for the front the defense was showing, i could outrun the corners and safeties, i was quicker at changing directions than the linebackers. Then junior year my girlfriend broke up with me, i broke my ankle before the season started, and then depression hit. my grades dropped, i physically and mental limped through my AP courses. I graduated but my GPA had gone from 3.8 to 2.2 by the end. It's been 4 years and I'm a happy father but sometimes i watch a football game and the guy who is my age is in the playoffs making 20x more. Of Course that doesn't mean i would make a deal with Mephisto and never have broken my ankle but at time i wonder if i train hard enough, would i ever have a chance with the Tennessee Titans? would i even be good enough? I just need to keep going to find out.
a good way to describe Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz's relationship to the phantom lantern as a green lantern. Jessica and Simon are new hires, employed by someone to do a job, the phantom lantern is just some guy who showed up and started working without being hired.
I'm real late to the party here, but something I've been kind of thinking about is whether or not someone could effectively "train" themselves to get a better handle on their emotions and become a white lantern using the phantom ring. Kyle was naturally chosen by all of the rings and then received assistance from other lanterns to help him achieve his potential, but could this be circumvented by someone in possession of possession of the phantom ring by helping achieve levels of emotion they may not naturally have? I don't think the idea is that far-fetched since Indigo is capable of forcing killers and sociopaths feel remorse, and orange naturally just completely overrides the personality of anyone it comes in contact with.
My favorite is blue; the concept of hope I think is the most powerful way to conquer any challenge. I also love the boost it can give to a green lantern and I will say yellow is real close because sinestro is just such an awesome leader in my opinion.
Rob Corp best Corp. But naw, really, I'm one of the sheep in that I love the Green Lanterns....except I am green color blind. Hal Jordan as was written up until Green Lanterns:Rebirth was basically a comic book version of my father. Right down to sleeping outside the recruiter's office for the Air Force to trouble with drinking. Never really thought myself to have the kind of will needed to make the ring sing like those guys, but I figure I could at least muster an arrow of light like Green Arrow if the chips were down.
my favourite lantern has to be greed. it is by far the coolest in my opinion. pure greed destroys and corrupts all and i'd like to trully see it's full potential eventually. remember this is just one ring in use and because of this, he has the power of the full corps, so i want to see what'd happen if he were to harness it to get something back.
Re: your intern metaphor around 15:20. It's more like the interns were left at the office while everyone went to lunch and some random guy walks in and starts saying that he works there and the intern tells them that no they don't in fact work there. Then that guy gets mad that the intern won't just accept that he works there.
An intern still has the authority to say, "You're not an employee. Get out." and expect that someone who doesn't belong will leave. Even a volunteer has at least that much authority.
Haven't seen a ring with that much power to screw someone over for life since my friend got married last month... ~_~
Majin Sole Ouch
Majin Sole damn! XD
Majin Sole savage
All other rings are powerless against it...

Ha!

In Blackest Day or Brightest Night
Watermelon, cantaloupe, yadda-yadda
A superstitious and cowardly lot

D-did I do it? Do I get the ring now?
Just Some Guy with a Mustache Close but no cigar.
Nope! Just Some Guy with a Mustache
I get the reference!
Dan Dragon done
No Daffy
I really wish the Green Lanterns had more love in the community overall
GamerBoyDevin I've always wondered, do you think the introduction of other lanterns helped or hurt GL's popularity?
Trev Kay I think it helped boost green lantern popularity
Hal and Guy are both badasses!
It definitely helped but it also made things more convoluted
GamerBoyDevin its kinda both cases
Volthoom is looking a lot like Palpatine lol
i guess he likes UNNNNNNNNNNNNNLIMITED POWWWWWAAAHHHH!!!1
koushik raja bwahahahahahaha!!!!! Good one dude, I am almost hating on you for posting that first LOL
***** I see Krenic mouthing that line, but hear the Asian guy from Griff's gang in BTTF:2 voice lol
Swoldier_ Boi "now, fulfill your destiny."
But no force lightning tho.... *cries silently*
If the white lantern ring holds the life equation; Shouldn't the Black Lantern ring have the Anti-life equation.
When you think about it, it makes a bit of sense that the anti life equation would be in the black lantern of death
I would love to see senestro try to cause the jokers feel fear.
Alex Hutchins He laughed hysterically when he did
And you spelling it wrong shows how dumb it is
Honestly with that, I like the thought of it going like the Arkam universe where Joker fears being forgotten because that makes sense for a guy who just does insane shit on a whim. The Joker is someone who seems to want to get bigger and badder with his schemes so to me, he seems like the type who'd want people to remember him because he can kill as many people as he wants, and what does that accomplish if people stop caring and forget about him? Oh Rob, you spoil me too much.
Oh good Lord please let Volthoom turn out to be a Dr. Doom level badass for DC... ~_~
No!
DC needs someone Doom-esque though; someone incredibly powerful AND completely terrifying...
~_~
Majin Sole They already have a character like that...Darkseid and Mongul.
Vandal Savage kinda fits the bill sadly he's is grossly underused and underdeveloped at the moment
I wonder if someone will be able to fully master the phantom ring someday.
Attis Rebirth I think technically it would be Kyle Reiner sense he is a White Lantern. He controls all of the emotional spectrum.

indigo. It's the only corp which doesn't constantly have members becoming villains

Neuroticmancer Ooh if you meant it in that sense then definitely so.
Like when their leader sold everyone out to Krona in the brightest day i think...
Neuroticmancer To be fair, their entire corps are made up OF villains. The Indigo lantern just brainwashes then and forces them to be good
Ana: Nano Boost Administered
Terry Crews: POOOOOWER
I don't know that people are super attatched to the current lantern backstory. Neither backstory especially explains why the hell the spectrum embodiment of love was something only girls could use, and to evil ends. Whoever wrote that must have been going through a breakup.
so sayeth Ed Sheeran Jr
Ryan Hall John Stewert has used it too
he used compassion not love
Good Things No he used his love of the gl corps to fuel his star sapphire ring
Guy gardner used it.

This was 24min of Rob goodness. Love how you know how to pan everything out
Isn't Volthuum the entity responsible for the Earth-3 character Power Ring?
Darin Wagner Yeah, He helped him became power ring
i'm pretty sure we can assume that was earth 3 version of volthoom
Brock Billings Yeah
Dragon Ballzzz Deep Thats a pretty good profile pic you got there
Black Ice Thank you my good man, I could say the same thing about your picture too.
Love it when you cover DC stuff man!! can't wait to hear the rest of that Superman RedSon Story line!!

LMAC marvel needs a reboot real bad .
Hulk+Red Ring= major overkill hahaha
Dude you know a tremendous amount of information about comics, superheroes etc. impressive! Great job :)

orange corp reminds me of the birds from finding nemo: "mine! mine! MINE!"
Blue Lantern Corps is my favorite! Kenshi0909 I mean people like horror movies. soooo it makes sense
Kenshi0909 They figure Batman *and* Scarecrow can't be both wrong.
fernando wetherbee Yeah but see, the way I see it, it's people identifying with the emotion. Like saying "yeah! being a cowardly shit rules!!"
Its not feeling fear, its inflicting it, harnessing fear to achieve your goals. (batman, scarecrow, sinestro, injustice superman)
"A lot of fans hate to see their favorite things change" You just described the older Superman fan base perfectly.
my favorite lanterns are the red lanterns
Blue lantern corp for me.
Guy Gardner's Red Lantern run was serious..
I really hope dc rebirth bring back The spectre and make him look more epic and he is more powerful and got new ability 😊. And I really hope The spectre storyline be more amazing
Specter can't have a story line he is way to powerful. He needs to be used like franklin Richards to just right any wrongs and than go away
Tyson Phillips lol yeah but they already doing that with the spectre . But I know what you are saying
Tyson Phillips But I still think they can make one or few storyline with The spectre, then put it down 😊
The spectre gets rekt by everyone.
Cake# with magic
Rob is a legend.. LEGEND.. please keep legacy going.. hat of to you good sir.
so what is the phantom lantern ring compared to a white lantern ring
Alexrider02 I agree
So the indigo, white, and phantom ring are all kinda of the same
Loving your stuff Rob. Keep up the great work.
Someone wanna go ahead and call up Kyle to fix this bullshit? Lol
Excellent video as always Rob.
obviously my favorite corp is the.......... ROB CORP!!! lol
The ring of volthoom showed up first(?) in Grant Morrison's justice league run during the 2000s when the crime syndicate fought the justice league.
why did they have to make him a bad guy i mean really he couldn't just be a dude
It would be harder writing him as a good guy
man u just earned 1more subscriber just keep going. All the best.
My fav corps is the rod corps
order66 I bet it is...
You mean Rob Corp right?
Wow. that was a really interesting story Rob! thanks for bringing it to my attention. be interesting to see where things go from here!
a good way to describe Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz's relationship to the phantom lantern as a green lantern.
Rob: We've all be down this road and had these thoughts
Me: I feel you all i ever wanted was a green lantern ring
Guy Red lantern is my favorite version of him, and that new 52 run of red lanterns was amazing
awesome!! please keep up with the 20min+ videos!!!
I'm new to this and I fucking love it already lol keep up the good work big guy
Rob, you are a real gem!!!
Has anyone ever seen Rob and Uatu the Watcher, at the same time!? Nice work dogg
awesome story ....my favourite corp are the blue lanterns
Love the Blue rings, such a laid back and hopeful corps I really hope they come back
My favorite is blue; the concept of hope I think is the most powerful way to conquer any challenge. I also love the boost it can give to a green lantern and I will say yellow is real close because sinestro is just such an awesome leader in my opinion.
Damn,this one seems awesome :D
Was never really that interested in the Green Lanterns but i think i might buy this volume ,thanks Rob :)
that look on his face when he takes the ring off is priceless
Mr. Rob never give a farewell speech
I had to stop buying comics just as Simon Baz was introduced, so glad i get Rob's review to keep me up to date, #ProudMemberOfTheRobCorp PEACE
Thank u rob for another great video
"Space Fairy Escapades", I died. Hal Jordan is tinkerbell.
love the black core
my favourite lantern has to be greed. it is by far the coolest in my opinion. pure greed destroys and corrupts all and i'd like to trully see it's full potential eventually. remember this is just one ring in use and because of this, he has the power of the full corps, so i want to see what'd happen if he were to harness it to get something back.
Brandon Lester i havent, but i intend to.
This is the best thing to come out of DC rebirth
Your Green Lantern PlayList is lacking some of your AWESOME videos... A few need to be added!
Rob i cant believe ur almost at 1 mil subs man thats crazy gj man
just in case you guys missed it, at 23:31 the tatto says "شجاعة" which means courage in Arabic.
I wondered when you were gonna do this story thx for doing it rob
Re: your intern metaphor around 15:20. It's more like the interns were left at the office while everyone went to lunch and some random guy walks in and starts saying that he works there and the intern tells them that no they don't in fact work there. Then that guy gets mad that the intern won't just accept that he works there.
My favorite corps green of course the oath says it all
That Phantom Oath was dope
Best character to be introduced to the green lantern mythos in a long time
Rob, how about a video on Null Breaker of Worlds ? And the Origen of the hammers.
An intern still has the authority to say, "You're not an employee. Get out." and expect that someone who doesn't belong will leave. Even a volunteer has at least that much authority.
Crazy Good. I would take the Orange Ring and use it for Good....
that first picture of frank laminski, his right eye is all jacked up
